This is the history of a banner of mass mobilization of Gniezno Voivodeship, precious memorabilia from the Napoleonic War, from the collection of The Leon Wyczółkowski District Museum in Bydgoszcz. The article tells not only the banner story but alsothe story of the 1806 Great Poland Uprising and the Bydgoszcz women’s social and patriotic activity at the beginning of the 20th century. The circumstances of the banner acquisition by the Bydgoszcz museum are also discussed as well as its modern useduring museum exhibitions.Artykuł traktuje o historii chorągwi pospolitego ruszenia województwa gnieźnieńskiego, cennej pamiątki z okresu wojen napoleońskich, która znajduje się w zbiorach bydgoskiego Muzeum Okręgowego im. Olga Newska, a sculptor from Warsaw, at the beginning of 30. of XX century, was associated with the city on the Brda river. During this period residents of Bydgoszcz were introduced to the art of this famous artist. In 1930 Newska took part in the 1st Exhibition of Polish Women Artists organized by City Museum in Bydgoszcz and more than one year later Józef Piłsudski monument created by this artist was revealed in Bydgoszcz. This article describes Bydgoszcz episodes of the art life of Olga Newska.Na początku lat trzydziestych XX w. z miastem nad Brdą związana była warszawska rzeźbiarka Olga Niewska. Bydgoszczanie mieli wówczas okazję zapoznania się z reprezentatywnymi dziełami tej znakomitej i wpływowej artystki. W 1930 r. Niewska wzięła udział w I Wystawie Artystek Polskich zorganizowanej przez bydgoskie Muzeum Miejskie, a półtora roku później w mieście nad Brdą stanął rzeźbiarski portret marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego jej autorstwa. Nasze „strażniczki polskości”. Aktywność patriotyczna kobiet w Bydgoszczy pod koniec okresu pruskiego

The author intended to reveal the significance of local patriotic women in maintaining the national identity of compatriots in Bydgoszcz just before Polish independence. Women’s patriotic activity in Bydgoszcz is shown in the background of women from Great Poland activities in Pozen District. Women from Bydgoszcz are shown as women engaged in work to sustain and create Polish identity in the German city just before and during World War I. This article is very important for Polish historiography because the history of Polish women patriots in Bydgoszcz is for the first time researched. Polish women activists, unknown for most people in Bydgoszcz and unexplored as a part of local history so far, will be added to the Pantheon of famous man-patriots. Recovery of historical memory of women from Bydgoszcz fight against Germanization from the 19/20 century to the end of 1918 was an important part of this project’s author purpose
