Road accidents with motorcycles among workers of a textile industry

Objective: To identify the profile of victims of road accidents with involvement of motorcycles among workers of a textile industry in the Rio Grande do Norte State. Method: This is a cross-sectional and descriptive study, with data collected from medical records and registrations from the company itself in the period from 2008 to 2009. Results: It has unveiled 81 cases of accidents with workers involving motorcycles, of which 62% were males, with higher incidence between 22 and 25 years; 69% needed removal equal to or less than 15 days; when the removal time was greater than 15 days, the average was 274,3 days; 71% suffered injuries on the lower and upper limbs. Conclusion: The recognition of these characteristics is useful to subsidize strategies for preventing motorcycle accidents and improving the reference emergency service

Collagen-Based Films Containing Liposome-Loaded Usnic Acid as Dressing for Dermal Burn Healing

    Get PDF
The aim of this study was assess the effect of collagen-based films containing usnic acid as a wound dressing for dermal burn healing. Second-degree burn wounds were performed in forty-five Wistar rats, assigned into nine groups: COL—animals treated with collagen-based films; PHO—animals treated with collagen films containing empty liposomes; UAL—animals treated with collagen-based films containing usnic acid incorporated into liposomes. After 7, 14, and 21 days the animals were euthanized. On 7th day there was a moderate infiltration of neutrophils, in UAL, distributed throughout the burn wounds, whereas in COL and PHO, the severity of the reaction was slighter and still limited to the margins of the burn wounds. On the 14th day, the inflammatory reaction was less intense in UAL, with remarkable plasma cells infiltration. On the 21st day, there was reduction of the inflammation, which was predominantly composed of plasma cells in all groups, particularly in UAL. The use of the usnic acid provided more rapid substitution of type-III for type-I collagen on the 14th day, and improved the collagenization density on the 21st day. It was concluded that the use of reconstituted bovine type-I collagen-based films containing usnic acid improved burn healing process in rats

Growth of silver nano-particle embedded in tellurite glass: interaction between localized surface plasmon resonance and 'Er IND.3+' ions

In this paper we show a systematic study of the growth of silver nano-particles (NPs) embedded in an Erbium-doped tellurite glass with annealing time, aiming to a photoluminescence enhancement. The results indicate an improved or quenching of the photoluminescence due to an energy transfer mechanism in the coupling between NP’s electric dipoles and Er+3 transitions (4S3/2 → 4I15/2, 4F9/2 → 4I15/2 and 4I13/2 → 4I15/2).FAPESPCNPqINCT - INOF/ CePO
