Report presents discussion of three common and primary influences on embrittlement process. Application of theoretical considerations to design of test coupons and methods is illustrated for both internal and external hydrogen embrittlement. Acceptable designs and methods are indicated

The Effect of Covert Advertising on Brand Patronage

The use of covert advertising in film production is an emerging brand communication strategy in the Nigerian society. In this advertising strategy, it integrates an advertiser's product into movies and TV shows on-screen visibility; it involves the inclusion of a product, brand name or the name of a firm in a movie for increasing awareness of the brand and instant recognition at the point of purchase. This paper examines the effect of covert advertising on brand purchase, using the movie 'Letter to a stranger'. The study also examined if the products advertised were noticed; their level of awareness as well as if the placements contributed to the patronage of the product towards the advertised products. The paper suggests that Nigerian movie producers and advertisers should work together to create more placements in Nollywood movies, but these placements should be creatively done so as to be able to recapture the hearts of many Nigerians

A film-rupture model of hydrogen-induced, slow crack growth in alpha-beta titanium

The appearance of the terrace like fracture morphology of gaseous hydrogen induced crack growth in acicular alpha-beta titanium alloys is discussed as a function of specimen configuration, magnitude of applied stress intensity, test temperature, and hydrogen pressure. Although the overall appearance of the terrace structure remained essentially unchanged, a distinguishable variation is found in the size of the individual terrace steps, and step size is found to be inversely dependent upon the rate of hydrogen induced slow crack growth. Additionally, this inverse relationship is independent of all the variables investigated. These observations are quantitatively discussed in terms of the formation and growth of a thin hydride film along the alpha-beta boundaries and a qualitative model for hydrogen induced slow crack growth is presented, based on the film-rupture model of stress corrosion cracking

Separating the Good from the Great: Predicting Votes for the Cy Young Award

Speculating about which pitcher will win the Cy Young Award has long been a pastime of baseball fans. In this paper, we identify which metrics affect a pitcher’s chances of winning the Cy Young Award, and the marginal effect of each metric. Our results were found using an ordinary least squares regression with a data set containing all pitchers in the American league who received at least one vote for the Cy Young award between 1970 - 2009. Our results show that voters favor pitchers with a high number of wins and a strong strikeout rate. Starting pitchers are also heavily favored over relieving pitchers
