Interaction between Tachyon and Hessence (or Hantom) dark energies
In this paper, we have considered that the universe is filled with tachyon,
hessence (or hantom) dark energies. Subsequently we have investigated the
interactions between tachyon and hessence (hantom) dark energies and calculated
the potentials considering the power law form of the scale factor. It has been
revealed that the tachyonic potential always decreases and hessence (or hantom)
potential increases with corresponding fields. Furthermore, we have considered
a correspondence between the hessence (or hantom) dark energy density and new
variable modified Chaplygin gas energy density. From this, we have found the
expressions of the arbitrary positive constants B0 and C of new variable
modified Chaplygin gas
Effect of inelastic scattering on parametric pumping
Pumping of charge in phase-coherent mesoscopic systems due to the
out-of-phase modulation of two parameters has recently found considerable
interest. We investigate the effect of inelastic processes on the adiabatically
pumped current through a two terminal mesoscopic sample. We find that the loss
of coherence does not suppress the pumped charge but rather an additional
physical mechanism for an incoherent pump effect comes into play. In a fully
phase incoherent system the pump effect is similar to a rectification effect
Quantum computation with two-level trapped cold ions beyond Lamb-Dicke limit
We propose a simple scheme for implementing quantum logic gates with a string
of two-level trapped cold ions outside the Lamb-Dicke limit. Two internal
states of each ion are used as one computational qubit (CQ) and the collective
vibration of ions acts as the information bus, i.e., bus qubit (BQ). Using the
quantum dynamics for the laser-ion interaction as described by a generalized
Jaynes-Cummings model, we show that quantum entanglement between any one CQ and
the BQ can be coherently manipulated by applying classical laser beams. As a
result, universal quantum gates, i.e. the one-qubit rotation and two-qubit
controlled gates, can be implemented exactly. The required experimental
parameters for the implementation, including the Lamb-Dicke (LD) parameter and
the durations of the applied laser pulses, are derived. Neither the LD
approximation for the laser-ion interaction nor the auxiliary atomic level is
needed in the present scheme.Comment: 12 pages, no figures, to appear in Phys. Rev.
Phase Transitions of Hard Disks in External Periodic Potentials: A Monte Carlo Study
The nature of freezing and melting transitions for a system of hard disks in
a spatially periodic external potential is studied using extensive Monte Carlo
simulations. Detailed finite size scaling analysis of various thermodynamic
quantities like the order parameter, its cumulants etc. are used to map the
phase diagram of the system for various values of the density and the amplitude
of the external potential. We find clear indication of a re-entrant liquid
phase over a significant region of the parameter space. Our simulations
therefore show that the system of hard disks behaves in a fashion similar to
charge stabilized colloids which are known to undergo an initial freezing,
followed by a re-melting transition as the amplitude of the imposed, modulating
field produced by crossed laser beams is steadily increased. Detailed analysis
of our data shows several features consistent with a recent dislocation
unbinding theory of laser induced melting.Comment: 36 pages, 16 figure
Optical Evidence of Multiphase Coexistence in Single Crystalline (La,Pr,Ca)MnO3
We investigated temperature (T)- and magnetic field-dependent optical
conductivity spectra (\s\w) of a La_5/8-yPr_yCa_3/8MnO_3 (y~0.35) single
crystal, showing intriguing phase coexistence at low T. At T_C < T < T_CO, a
dominant charge-ordered phase produces a large optical gap energy of ~0.4 eV.
At T < T_C, at least two absorption bands newly emerge below 0.4 eV. Analyses
of (\s\w) indicate that the new bands should be attributed to a ferromagnetic
metallic and a charge-disordered phase that coexist with the charge-ordered
phase. This optical study clearly shows that La_5/8-yPrCa_3/8MnO_3 (y~0.35) is
composed of multiphases that might have different lattice strains.Comment: A single file with 9 figures embedded, to appear in Phys. Rev.
A Real-Space Full Multigrid study of the fragmentation of Li11+ clusters
We have studied the fragmentation of Li11+ clusters into the two
experimentally observed products (Li9+,Li2) and (Li10+,Li) The ground state
structures for the two fragmentation channels are found by Molecular Dynamics
Simulated Annealing in the framework of Local Density Functional theory.
Energetics considerations suggest that the fragmentation process is dominated
by non-equilibrium processes. We use a real-space approach to solve the
Kohn-Sham problem, where the Laplacian operator is discretized according to the
Mehrstellen scheme, and take advantage of a Full MultiGrid (FMG) strategy to
accelerate convergence. When applied to isolated clusters we find our FMG
method to be more efficient than state-of-the-art plane wave calculations.Comment: 9 pages + 6 Figures (in gzipped tar file
Real-space local polynomial basis for solid-state electronic-structure calculations: A finite-element approach
We present an approach to solid-state electronic-structure calculations based
on the finite-element method. In this method, the basis functions are strictly
local, piecewise polynomials. Because the basis is composed of polynomials, the
method is completely general and its convergence can be controlled
systematically. Because the basis functions are strictly local in real space,
the method allows for variable resolution in real space; produces sparse,
structured matrices, enabling the effective use of iterative solution methods;
and is well suited to parallel implementation. The method thus combines the
significant advantages of both real-space-grid and basis-oriented approaches
and so promises to be particularly well suited for large, accurate ab initio
calculations. We develop the theory of our approach in detail, discuss
advantages and disadvantages, and report initial results, including the first
fully three-dimensional electronic band structures calculated by the method.Comment: replacement: single spaced, included figures, added journal referenc
Diagnostic for Dilaton Dark Energy
diagnostic can differentiate between different models of dark energy
without the accurate current value of matter density. We apply this geometric
diagnostic to dilaton dark energy(DDE) model and differentiate DDE model from
LCDM. We also investigate the influence of coupled parameter on the
evolutive behavior of with respect to redshift . According to the
numerical result of , we get the current value of equation of state
=-0.952 which fits the WMAP5+BAO+SN very well.Comment: 6 pages and 6 figures
Sub-surface Oxygen and Surface Oxide Formation at Ag(111): A Density-functional Theory Investigation
To help provide insight into the remarkable catalytic behavior of the
oxygen/silver system for heterogeneous oxidation reactions, purely sub-surface
oxygen, and structures involving both on-surface and sub-surface oxygen, as
well as oxide-like structures at the Ag(111) surface have been studied for a
wide range of coverages and adsorption sites using density-functional theory.
Adsorption on the surface in fcc sites is energetically favorable for low
coverages, while for higher coverage a thin surface-oxide structure is
energetically favorable. This structure has been proposed to correspond to the
experimentally observed (4x4) phase. With increasing O concentrations, thicker
oxide-like structures resembling compressed Ag2O(111) surfaces are
energetically favored. Due to the relatively low thermal stability of these
structures, and the very low sticking probability of O2 at Ag(111), their
formation and observation may require the use of atomic oxygen (or ozone, O3)
and low temperatures. We also investigate diffusion of O into the sub-surface
region at low coverage (0.11 ML), and the effect of surface Ag vacancies in the
adsorption of atomic oxygen and ozone-like species. The present studies,
together with our earlier investigations of on-surface and
surface-substitutional adsorption, provide a comprehensive picture of the
behavior and chemical nature of the interaction of oxygen and Ag(111), as well
as of the initial stages of oxide formation.Comment: 17 pages including 14 figures, Related publications can be found at

First measurement of direct photoproduction on the proton
We report on the results of the first measurement of exclusive
meson photoproduction on protons for GeV and GeV. Data were collected with the CLAS detector at the Thomas
Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The resonance was detected via its
decay in the channel by performing a partial wave analysis of the
reaction . Clear evidence of the meson
was found in the interference between and waves at GeV. The -wave differential cross section integrated in the mass range of
the was found to be a factor of 50 smaller than the cross section
for the meson. This is the first time the meson has been
measured in a photoproduction experiment
