Muon Track Matching
For most physical processes the tracks observed in the muon stations must be matched with the corresponding tracks in the inner tracker, the external muon system providing muon identification and triggering but the tracker points giving the precise momentum measurement at lower momenta. For high momenta the momentum resolution is much improved by the interconnection of inner and outer measurements. The matching of outer and inner measurements is more delicate in case of muons embedded in jets. A study of the matching procedure was carried out using samples of (b, anti b) jets at high Pt, requiring (b, anti b) -> mu decays. For most physical processes the tracks observed in the muon stations must be matched with the corresponding tracks in the inner tracker, the external muon system providing muon identification and triggering but the tracker points giving the precise momentum measurement at lower momenta. Specific heat and magnetocaloric effect in Pr1-xAgxMnO3 manganites
The magnetocaloric effect in alternating magnetic fields has been
investigated in Pr1-xAgxMnO3 manganites with x=0.05-0.25. The stepwise reversal
of the sign of the magnetocaloric effect has been revealed in a weakly doped
sample (x=0.05) at low temperatures (~80 K). This reversal is attributed to the
coexistence of the ferromagnetic and canted antiferromagnetic phases with
different critical temperatures.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Capacity of second spillway of Boguchanskaya HPP
The main problem in designing the discharge of water flow from the upstream to the downstream is to ensure the capacity of spillway structures. This article discusses the design options for the design top of the spillway: with water diversion through a short nozzle in the pressure mode and energy dissipation in stilling basin, with the pressure-free and pressure-free passage of water through spillway No. 2 and damping of the flow energy by jet discharge into the lower stream by the inclined face of the threshold in the stilling basin; with no pressure passage and pressure passage of water through spillway No 2 and energy dissipation of the flow by throwing the flow discharge into the downstream by the inclined face of the threshold of a stilling basin; with the passage of building expenses through the sill in no pressure and pressure-type short-nozzle modes, with the spillway No. 2’s horizontal water outlet at the level of 139.5 m, with a jet discharge by a toe-springboard at an angle of 35°, and with the outlet rib's mark of 143.8 m. This article aims to obtain the flow characteristics of the considered spillway option for the period of temporary operation of the hydrotechnical complex
Identity and integration of Russian speakers in the Baltic states: a framework for analysis
Following a review of current scholarship on identity and integration patterns of Russian speakers in the Baltic states, this article proposes an analytical framework to help understand current trends. Rogers Brubaker's widely employed triadic nexus is expanded to demonstrate why a form of Russian-speaking identity has been emerging, but has failed to become fully consolidated, and why significant integration has occurred structurally but not identificationally. By enumerating the subfields of political, economic, and cultural ‘stances’ and ‘representations’ the model helps to understand the complicated integration processes of minority groups that possess complex relationships with ‘external homelands’, ‘nationalizing states’ and ‘international organizations’. Ultimately, it is argued that socio-economic factors largely reduce the capacity for a consolidated identity; political factors have a moderate tendency to reduce this capacity, whereas cultural factors generally increase the potential for a consolidated group identity
Search for R-parity Violating Supersymmetry in Dimuon and Four-Jets Channel
We present results of a search for R-parity-violating decay of the neutralino
chi_1^0, taken to be the Lightest Supersymmetric Particle. It is assumed that
this decay proceeds through one of the lepton-number violating couplings
lambda-prime_2jk (j=1,2; k=1,2,3). This search is based on 77.5 pb-1 of data,
collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron in ppbar collisions at
a center of mass energy of 1.8 TeV in 1992-1995.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure
Search for New Physics Using Quaero: A General Interface to D0 Event Data
We describe Quaero, a method that i) enables the automatic optimization of
searches for physics beyond the standard model, and ii) provides a mechanism
for making high energy collider data generally available. We apply Quaero to
searches for standard model WW, ZZ, and ttbar production, and to searches for
these objects produced through a new heavy resonance. Through this interface,
we make three data sets collected by the D0 experiment at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV
publicly available.Comment: 7 pages, submitted to Physical Review Letter
Improved W boson mass measurement with the D0 detector
We have measured the W boson mass using the D0 detector and a data sample of
82 pb^-1 from the Tevatron collider. This measurement used W -> e nu decays,
where the electron is close to a boundary of a central electromagnetic
calorimeter module. Such 'edge' electrons have not been used in any previous D0
analysis, and represent a 14% increase in the W boson sample size. For these
electrons, new response and resolution parameters are determined, and revised
backgrounds and underlying event energy flow measurements are made. When the
current measurement is combined with previous D0 W boson mass measurements, we
obtain M_W = 80.483 +/- 0.084 GeV. The 8% improvement from the previous D0
measurement is primarily due to the improved determination of the response
parameters for non-edge electrons using the sample of Z bosons with non-edge
and edge electrons.Comment: submitted to Phys. Rev. D; 20 pages, 18 figures, 9 table
