Tree Stands and Their Productivity Dynamics at the Upper Growing Limit in Khibiny on the Background of Modern Climate Changes

Within the ecotone of the upper limit of woody vegetation on the southeastern macroslope of the Khibiny Mountain ridge (Kola Peninsula), the spatial and age structure, as well as features of the phytomass accumulation of spruce–birch stands, were studied. Analysis revealed that there was a manifold increase in the density and productivity of forest stands in the last century, and the upper border of the woodlands and dense forests has moved considerably higher into the mountains. All of this happened against the background of an increase in early summer temperatures and a longer growing season in the area in the 20th century. Our data will help simulate the response of mountain ecosystems in the region to future climate change. © 2019, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd

Structure and Dynamics of Tree Stands at the Upper Timberline in the Western Part of the Putorana Plateau

Analysis of the age structure of Dahurian larch (Larix gmelinii Rupr.) forests in the western part of the Putorana Plateau (Sukhie Gory Range) and comparison of diachronous topographic maps and satellite images have revealed changes in the altitudinal position of the upper boundary of tree vegetation. the most significant changes occurred on south- and southwest-facing slopes. Correlations of trunk diameters with the phytomass of trees and its fractions have been found. the course of changes in the structure and phytomass of tree stands in the upper timberline over the past centuries has been reconstructed. Effect of propolis bioflavonoids on the antioxidant potential of ejaculate and on oxidative sperm DNA damage

The investigation was undertaken to assess the molecular mechanisms of antioxidant action of propolis bioflavonoids in pathospermia. It included the data of examining 75 infertile males and 36 fertile ones. The 3-month administration of the agent in a daily dose of 40 mg resulted in normalization of ejaculate parameters, a reduction in the levels of biomarkers for oxidative protein and sperm DNA damage, and recovery of the antioxidant status of seminal plasma.</em

Оценка эффективности катионита КУ-2-8 при извлечении ионов меди из воды в присутствии ионов жесткости

Наведено результати досліджень з визначення ефективності катіоніту КУ-2-8 під час вилучення йонів міді з води в присутності йонів жорсткості за низьких концентрацій йонів міді. Показано, що в статичних умовах при концентрації міді від 1 до 30 мг/дм3 вилучення міді проходить неефективно як з дистильованої, так і з водопровідної води незалежно від форми йоніту. Даний показник знижується під час збільшення об’єму розчину при фіксованому об’ємі йоніту. Суттєвого підвищення ефективності вилучення йонів міді на даному катіоніті досягнуто в динамічних умовах при використанні йоніту в кислій та сольовій формі і наявності в розчині йонів жорсткості. Встановлено, що ефективність десорбції йонів міді розчинами хлоридної кислоти в статичних умовах була низькою. В динамічних умовах досягнуто практично повного вилучення йонів міді розчинами хлоридної кислоти.The results of studies to determine the effectiveness of KU-2-8 cation extracting copper ions from water hardness ions in the presence of low concentrations of copper ions. It is shown that at concentration of copper from 1 to 30 mg/dm3 extraction of copper takes place in static conditions inefficiently both from distilled and from tap water irrespective of an ionite form. This indicator decreases at increase in volume of solution at the fixed ionite volume. Significant efficiency removal of copper ions in this cation achieved in dynamic conditions using resin in acid and salt form in the presence of ions in solution stiffness. It was established that the efficiency of desorption of copper ions hydrochloric acid solutions in static conditions was low. In dynamic conditions reached almost complete desorption of copper ions by solutions of hydrochloric acid.Приведены результаты исследований по определению эффективности катионита КУ-2-8 при извлечении ионов меди из воды в присутствии ионов жесткости при низких концентрациях ионов меди. Показано, что в статических условиях при концентрации меди от 1 до 30 мг/дм3 извлечение меди проходит неэффективно как из дистиллированной, так и из водопроводной воды независимо от формы ионита. Данный показатель снижается при увеличении объема раствора при фиксированном объеме ионита. Существенного повышения эффективности извлечения ионов меди на данном катионите достигнуто в динамических условиях при использовании ионита в кислой и солевой форме при наличии в растворе ионов жесткости. Установлено, что эффективность десорбции ионов меди растворами соляной кислоты в статических условиях была низкой. В динамических условиях достигнуто практически полной десорбции ионов меди растворами соляной кислоты

On psychosemantics of notions "opinion", "knowledge", "belief"

Currently the studies of particular relevance in which the ways of representation in the language of the subject's consciousness cognitive content, the characteristic properties of thinking verbal objectification and the basic thought features are analyzed. This article deals with the universal categories of knowledge, opinion and belief, largely structuring the cognitive, mental activity of a person, serving as the basic constructs in the subject's cognitive-evaluative activity. The paper presents the results of a series of our psychosemantic experiments, which made it possible to identify stable signs, cultural representations, associations that arise in the minds of native speakers in the actualization of categories of knowledge, opinion and belief and compare their content. Such experimental studies allow us to explicate the "hidden" mechanisms of verbalization of thought structures in the process of cognition of the world, to see what stands behind the word as a unit of the speech (linguistic) ability of the individual. The submitted data reflect the complex networks of relationships formed in conceptualization and categorization processes of the world

Heart myxoma under the mask of interstitial lung lesion: a difficult case from practice

The aim of the investigation was to describe a clinical case of the development of interstitial lung lesions in a 57-year-old man with a large left atrial myxoma, which had a reverse development after myxomectomy.Materials and methods. Patient V., 57 years old, was hospitalized in the therapeutic department of the City Clinical Hospital No. 1 named after N. I. Pirogov in connection with bilateral polysegmental pneumonia. A month before hospitalization, he underwent an outpatient examination for progressive dyspnea. Myxoma of the heart was diagnosed. Due to the progression of respiratory failure and the appearance of fever, he was hospitalized. Amidst the multistage antibiotic therapy, there was a torpid course of lung pathology with syndromes of bilateral dissemination and “ground glass”, bilateral lymphadenopathy of the mediastinum, high pulmonary hypertension, and systemic inflammatory reaction syndrome. Thromboembolism of the branches of the pulmonary artery, tuberculosis, sepsis, infective endocarditis, neoplastic processes of pulmonary and other localization were excluded.Results. The clinical picture corresponded to interstitial lung lesions within the framework of paraneoplastic syndrome in heart myxoma. It was decided to urgently carry out myxomectomy.Conclusion. The clinical case demonstrates the development of a rare variant of paraneoplastic syndrome in left atrial myxoma, which was suspected during the patient’s treatment for bilateral polysegmental pneumonia. The progression of the pulmonary lesion was explained by active interstitial inflammation and was supported by the immunological activity of the heart tumor.The performed myxomectomy, despite the persisting syndrome of systemic inflammatory reaction and infiltration of the lung tissue, led in 2 weeks to complete resolution of interstitial lung lesions and pulmonary hypertension, which confirmed the causal relationship between myxoma of the heart and involvement in the pathological process of the lungs

Impact of Honeybee Venom Melittin on Cell Viability of Different Prostate Cancer Lineages

Background. Melittin is a major constituent of honeybee venom and comprises a water-soluble surfactant peptide with cytolytic effects potentially applicable in anticancer therapy. We evaluated the impact of melittin from Bashkir honeybee (Apis mellifera mellifera L.) venom on cell viability of various prostate cancer lineages.Materials and methods. MTT assays with cell viability index estimation were used to evaluate the effect of melittin on cell proliferation in various-grade malignancy prostate cancer (PC) lineages, LNCaP, PC-3 and DU145.Results and discussion. Lineage DU145 revealed a low sensitivity to melittin, because a relatively high peptide concentration of 10 μg/mL had a suppressive effect on its proliferation. With PC-3 cells, a 0.1 μg/mL concentration suppressed proliferation significantly to 46.15 %, while melittin at a 10 μg/mL dose had a cytolytic effect on most cells (4.27 % viability). LNCaP cells experienced the lowest toxicity at 10 μg/mL melittin compared to PC-3 and DU145 lineages. The LNCaP, PC-3 and DU145 PC lineages demonstrated suppressed proliferation at melittin levels 0.01–100 μg/mL.Conclusion. The study reveals a significant reduction of the PC lineages viability at a minimal melittin concentration of 0.01 μg/mL, which indicates a high cytolytic activity of this peptide and renders it a candidate agent in antitumour therapy

The estimation of subjective sensations in the oral cavity in children with chronic renal insufficiency under hemodialysis

The estimation of subjective sensations in the oral cavity in children with chronic renal insufficiency under hemodialysis has been carried out that revealed the efficacy of application after hemodialysis of chewing phytosubstrate based on Archangelica Officinalis Hoffm radix and bee wax in prevention and treatment of dental diseases in children with chronic renal insufficiency under hemodialysis has been estimated. Reduction in the dryness of mucous membrane of the lips and oral cavity, gingival bleeding and burning sensation have been clinically revealed. The supposed method of prevention and treatment of dental diseases in children with chronic renal insufficiency under hemodialysis can be applied in the complex treatment of the present group of patients.Проведена оценка субъективных ощущений в полости рта, которая показала эффективность применения после гемодиализа, жевательного фито-субстрата на основе экстракта корня дягиля лекарственного (Archangelica officinalis Hoffm) и пчелиного воска в комплексной профилактике и лечении стоматологических заболеваний у детей с хронической почечной недостаточностью, находящихся на гемодиализе. Клинически отмечено уменьшение сухости слизистой оболочки красной каймы губ и слизистой оболочки полости рта, кровоточивости десен и чувства жжения в полости рта. Предложенный метод профилактики и лечения стоматологических заболеваний у детей с ХПН, находящихся на гемодиализе может быть использован в комплексе лечебных мероприятий у данной группы больных

Связь курения с ишемической болезнью сердца в зависимости от других факторов сердечно-сосудистого риска

 Aim. To study the possibility of the presence of coronary artery disease (CAD) depending on the smoking status, as well as to estimate the association of smoking with other traditional risk factors in residents of Kemerovo region aged 25–64 years.Materials and methods. We analyzed the results of the multicenter epidemiological study “Epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases and their risk factors in the Russian Federation” in Kemerovo region obtained from a random sample of 1,599 subjects aged 25–64 years. Besides the smoking status, the following parameters were analyzed: gender, age, education, diabetes mellitus (DM) and arterial hypertension (AH) history, hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, high level of low-density lipoproteins, low level of high-density lipoproteins (HDL), hyperglycemia, obesity, alcohol abuse, and depression.Results. Three groups were formed depending on the smoking status: group 1 included 484 (30.3%) current smokers, group 2 had 317 (19.8%) former smokers and group 3 had 798 (49.9%) individuals who had never smoked. The groups did not differ in the prevalence of CAD. When determining the rank significance of the impact of risk factors on the possibility of CAD development in the overall population, it was revealed that the age affected the risk of CAD the most, while smoking and low HDL had minimal impact.  The impact of the smoking factor on CAD was higher in the representatives of the older age group; however, even in the subjects aged ≥ 50 years,the smoking factor was not the leading one and followed DM,  hypertriglyceridemia, depression, and obesity. The possibility of CAD development in smokers, as opposed to individuals who had never smoked, increased when smoking was accompanied by hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, male sex, lack of higher education, depression, and age of ≥ 50 years. The possibility of CAD development in former smokers as opposed to nonsmokers increased when smoking was accompanied by hyperglycemia.Conclusion. Smoking is not the primary risk factor in CAD detection in the studied sample. In the presence of additional risk factors, the impact of smoking on the possibility of CAD detection increases.   Цель. Изучение вероятности наличия ишемической болезни сердца (ИБС) в зависимости от статуса курения, а также оценка связи курения с другими традиционными факторами риска у жителей Кузбасского региона в возрасте 25–64 лет.Материалы и методы. Проведен анализ результатов  многоцентрового эпидемиологического исследования «Эпидемиология сердечно-сосудистых заболеваний и их  факторов риска в Российской Федерации» в Кемеровской области, полученных на случайной выборке 1 599 человек в возрасте 25–64 лет. Помимо статуса курения анализировались пол, возраст, образование, наличие  сахарного диабета (СД) и артериальная гипертензия,  гиперхолестеринемия, гипертриглицеридемия, высокий  уровень липопротеидов низкой плотности, низкий уровень  липопротеидов высокой плотности (ЛПВП), гипергликемия,  ожирение, злоупотребление алкоголем и депрессия.Результаты. В зависимости от статуса курения  сформированы три группы. Первая группа – курящие в  настоящее время, 484 человека (30,3%), вторая – курившие в  прошлом, 317 (19,8%), и третья группа – никогда не курившие, 798 человек (49,9%). Группы не имели различий  по распространенности ИБС. При определении ранговой  значимости влияния факторов риска на вероятность ИБС в  общей популяции выявлено, что возраст является самым сильным фактором, а курение и низкий уровень ЛПВП –  минимальными. Степень влияния на ИБС фактора курения выше у представителей старшей возрастной группы, однакодаже у лиц в возрасте 50 лет и старше факт курения не занял  лидирующие позиции и следовал за СД, гипертриглицеридемией, депрессией и ожирением. Вероятность ИБС у курящих в сравнении с никогда не курившими усиливается при сочетании курения с  гиперхолестеринемией, гипертриглицеридемией, мужским полом, отсутствием высшего образования, наличием  депрессии и возрастом 50 лет и старше. У куривших в прошлом к не курящим – при сочетании с гипергликемией. Заключение. Курение является не первостепенным  фактором риска при выявлении ИБС в исследуемой выборке, а при наличии дополнительных факторов риска  влияние курения на вероятность выявления ИБС усиливается.
