Simulation studies of PV fed Line Frequency Commutated 5-Level Inverter

    Get PDF
Power electronic converters are essential for harnessing the abundantly available solar energy. Power from the photovoltaic array can be fed to the ac load or utility grid through inverter which is capable of producing an ac voltage with less harmonics. A multilevel inverter is generally employed for this purpose at the cost of extra switches and control complexity. In this paper, a system is proposed to obtain a multilevel output by introducing a simple auxiliary circuit between the photovoltaic array and the line frequency commutated inverter. Simulation studies of the proposed system have been carried out using MATLAB/Simulink software and the results are presented in this paper

Case of leucism in the spadenose shark, Scoliodon laticaudus (M├╝ller and Henle, 1838) from Mangalore, Karnataka

    Get PDF
The present paper reports the first case of leucism in the spadenose shark, Scoliodon laticaudus from India. This report is based on the study of a single specimen of S. laticaudus caught by a commercial trawler off Mangalore coast. Photographs were taken and measurements recorded using vernier calipers. Partial reduction in pigmentation and no other morphometric differences were seen between the specimen studied and other normal spadenose sharks. Conclusion of leucism in the specimen was done based on the partial lack of integumentary pigments and normal eye colour

First record of occurrence of BoulengerтАЩs anthias Sacura boulengeri (Heemstra, 1973), Family: Serranidae, in Indian waters

    Get PDF
Previously known only from the Gulf of Oman off Muscat and Pakistan off Sindh, this record is the first from Indian waters for BoulengerтАЩs anthias, Sacura boulengeri. Morphometric and meristic characters of the specimens collected from the west coast of India complement those of the specimens from the Gulf of Oman (05 adult males; lectotype) and Pakistan (01 adult male) examined by Heemstra and Randall (1979)and Moazzam and Osmany (2004) respectively. Hitherto known only from male specimens, the present study records the morphometric and meristic characteristics of a female specimen. The identification key provided by Heemstra and Randall (1979) requires to be revised as the number of gill rakers present in the lower limb of the first gill is lesser than that stipulated as a diagnostic character in the earlier works

Species assemblage in the coral reef ecosystem of Netrani Island off Karnataka along the southwest coast of India

Netrani is an uninhabited island located nearly 18 km off Murdeshwar (Karnataka State) in the southwest coast of India (14┬░02тАЩ N lat; 74┬░33тАЩ E long.). So far the coral reef ecosystem around this island has not been reported in scientific literature. Therefore, an underwater visual census of the coral reef was undertaken in May 2006 by SCUBA diving. The survey has revealed the existence of a patchy reef surrounding this island consisting of 14 coral species belonging to 11 genera. Other flora and fauna comprised of fishes (92), seaweeds (7), sponges (6), jellyfish (2), holothuria (1), nudibranchs (7), zooplankton (25), bivalves (15), phytoplankton (16), gastropods (48), cephalopods (3), crabs (17), shrimps (2), lobsters (4), etc.Twenty-six species of fishes recorded from this island reef area were found to be new records from the Indian coast. Two IUCN Red Listed fish species, the humphead wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus) and the whale shark (Rhincodon typus) were recorded from the island area. Another IUCN red listed mollusc, the giant clam (Tridacna maxima) was found inhabiting this reef and this is a first report on the occurrence of this species from the mainland Indian waters. The Indian Navy based at Karwar uses the Netrani Island as target for shooting/shelling practice and evidence of the same was observed during the survey. The wealth of biodiversity around this reef emphasizes the need to conserve and preserve it

    Mariculture of mussels in India

Worldwide, bivalves are recognised as a source of inexpensive protein of high nutritional value. In India bivalve resources are still exploited at a subsis tence level. The growth performance, natural abundance, adaptability to new environment, simple and inexpensive culture techniques have made mussel a candidate species for culture operations. The bivalve mussels of the genus Perna are ex tensively cultured in Thailand, Philippines and New Zealand

The United States COVID-19 Forecast Hub dataset

    Get PDF
Academic researchers, government agencies, industry groups, and individuals have produced forecasts at an unprecedented scale during the COVID-19 pandemic. To leverage these forecasts, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) partnered with an academic research lab at the University of Massachusetts Amherst to create the US COVID-19 Forecast Hub. Launched in April 2020, the Forecast Hub is a dataset with point and probabilistic forecasts of incident cases, incident hospitalizations, incident deaths, and cumulative deaths due to COVID-19 at county, state, and national, levels in the United States. Included forecasts represent a variety of modeling approaches, data sources, and assumptions regarding the spread of COVID-19. The goal of this dataset is to establish a standardized and comparable set of short-term forecasts from modeling teams. These data can be used to develop ensemble models, communicate forecasts to the public, create visualizations, compare models, and inform policies regarding COVID-19 mitigation. These open-source data are available via download from GitHub, through an online API, and through R packages
