This article does not contain abstracts in English.

Undoped and Co-doped (1 and 3 at. %) SnO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by a simple co-precipitation method. X-Ray diffraction data revealed that both undoped and doped samples crystallize in the tetragonal rutile phase with CoO phase in doped samples. The lattice parameters of doped samples calculated from XRD data do not vary much when compared to undoped one indicating that Co has not substituted the host lattice. The surface morphology investigated by SEM indicates the cluster formation in Co-doped (1 and 3 at. %) nanoparticles and the chemical composition of the samples were analyzed by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). UV-Vis spectrum of undoped system showed absorption at 408 nm (3.04 eV), which is red shifted by 0.56 eV compared to bulk SnO2 (3.6 eV) due to the cluster nature of the sample. The UV-Vis spectra of doped samples showed absorption in the visible region due to the formation of CoO phase, which is also evident from the XRD spectra. PL spectra showed characteristic UV emission at 409 nm and blue emission at 480 nm. The characteristic vibrational modes of SnO2 were studied from FTIR analysis. EPR measurement of Co-doped (3 at .%) SnO2 nanoparticles showed the paramagnetic behavior which may be attributed to the occupation of Co2+ ions in the interstitial site rather than the substitutional site. The absence of ferromagnetism is due to the high doping concentration of Co (> 1 at. %) and also due to the high annealing temperature which destroys the hyperfine splitting. A high resolution spectrum of FTS sunspot umbra of NSO/Kitt Peak was used to conduct a search for the molecular absorption lines due to BeH, BeD and BeT isotopomers. Analysis led to estimates of identification of the molecular lines of bands A - X (0,0), (1,1) and (2,2) for BeH, A - X (0,0), (1,1), (2,2) and (3,3) for BeD and of A - X (0,0), (1,1) and (2,2) for BeT. Among the identified lines, those which are well resolved were selected for measurements to calculate equivalent widths. The values of effective rotational temperature T were estimated for bands A - X(1,1) and (2,2) of BeH, A - X(1,1) of BeD and A - X(2,2) of BeT to be 4228K, 4057K, 3941K and 3243K respectively

Reverse micelles are discrete nanoscale particles composed of a water core surrounded by surfactant. In this current study the the self assembling properties of the dipeptide Boc-Ile-Ile-NHMe in chloroform to form a stable micelle at various temperatures ranging from 200 to 350 Kelvin has been analysed using insilico methods. The computational analysis was carried out using the steepest descent algorithm, a minimization tool used to study the protein energy level in insilco and it was compared with the thermodynamic parameters determined experimentally. Such reverse micelles finds a vast area of application one of which is drug delivery in nanotechnology. The present dipeptide is shown to carry drugs by insilico methods.   Key words: Reverse micelles, tetra peptide, minimization, drug delivery, nanotechnology

Expression of proto-oncogenes and muscle specific genes during cardiac hypertrophy and development in rats and humans

A regulatory interdependence of expression of proto-oncogenes and muscle specific genes observed in smooth muscle was examined in cardiac muscle during normal development and hypertrophy both in rats and humans. During normal development in rats, myosin light chain 2 expression is very low at prenatal stages, while c-fos expression starts from the early stages of embryonic development. In aorta constricted rats c-fos induction occurs within 30 min whereas myosin light chain 2 expression is sufficiently high only after 3 or 4 days of post operative period. In the case of humans, the expression of myosin light chain 2 as well as c-fos occurs at high levels during embryonic development. Similar results were obtained with tissue samples obtained from patients with cardiac abnormalities. Induction of the c-fos gene in cultured myocytes by 12-O-tetradeeanoylphorbol 13-acetate has no influence on the expression of myosin light chain 2. These studies were extended with studies on c-myc and Β-myosin heavy chain gene expression which revealed a similar pattern of expression as that of c-fos and myosin light chain 2. These results have indicated that the expression of proto-oncogenes in cardiac muscle may be independently regulated from the expression of muscle specific genes

Case report of total hip replacement in an amputatee

    Get PDF
Total hip replacement (THR) in an ipsilateral neck of femur fracture is an unusual situation. Hip fractures are a common source of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Nevertheless, the discovery and development of hip arthroplasty has improved its prognosis, with a high survival rate and satisfactory functional results. Although total hip replacement has been well described in the literature especially for healthy individuals, we found only few pieces of information about the technical characteristics and results of this procedure in patients with lower extremity amputation. There were few previous case reports in the literature that describe total hip replacement (THR) in above-knee amputees and this was the first case to be done in our institute. We presented a case involving an above knee amputee (AKA) who sustained an ipsilateral neck of femur fracture. Our patient underwent a THR with a satisfactory post-operative outcome. Technical considerations for AKAs undergoing THR also are reviewed in this article

Astrophysical molecule CN : vibronic transition probability parameters

    Get PDF
Abstract. Astrophysical applications are broadened by the emerging consensus on the vibration-electronic (vibronic) transition probability parameters such as Franck -Condon (FC) factors & r -centroids of some molecular species like CN , which could be useful in the identification of molecular lines and in the estimation of relative abundance of the species in various celestial bodies especially in the interstellar medium. Such important parameters, that is FC factors and r -centroids, have been computed by a reliable numerical integration procedure for the bands of E i systems of astrophysical molecule CN , using a suitable potential. For E − X system, the improved values of FC factors from the revised molecular constants are given along with the already reported values
