Genetic study in patients operated dentally and anesthetized with articaine-epinephrine
Aims: In this study we wanted to figure out if there was a correlation between OPRM1 N40D, TRPV1 I316M, TRPV1 I585V, NOS3 −786T>C and IL6 −174C>G polymorphisms and the response to locally applied articaine-epinephrine anesthetic.
Methods: In this observational study, 114 oral cell samples of patients anesthetized with articaine-epinephrine (54 from men 60 from women), were collected from dental centers in Madrid (Spain). High molecular weight DNA was obtained from oral mucosa cells. The analysis of OPRM1 N40D (rs1799971), TRPV1 I316M (rs222747), TRPV1 I585V (rs8065080) and IL6 −174C>G polymorphism was performed through real-time PCR allelic discrimination using TaqMan probes. Polymorphism NOS3 −786T> C (rs2070744) was analyzed using RFLP-PCR.
Results: The studied polymorphisms are involved neither in the response to the anesthetic, nor in the intensity of perceived dental pain. However, in a subset of female patients we found that TRPV1 I316M was associated with a delayed onset of anesthesia.
Conclusions: There is no association among these polymorphisms and the time elapsed between the application of the anesthetic and the onset of its effect
Quasi-exactly Solvable Lie Superalgebras of Differential Operators
In this paper, we study Lie superalgebras of matrix-valued
first-order differential operators on the complex line. We first completely
classify all such superalgebras of finite dimension. Among the
finite-dimensional superalgebras whose odd subspace is nontrivial, we find
those admitting a finite-dimensional invariant module of smooth vector-valued
functions, and classify all the resulting finite-dimensional modules. The
latter Lie superalgebras and their modules are the building blocks in the
construction of QES quantum mechanical models for spin 1/2 particles in one

Four dimensional Lie symmetry algebras and fourth order ordinary differential equations
Realizations of four dimensional Lie algebras as vector fields in the plane
are explicitly constructed. Fourth order ordinary differential equations which
admit such Lie symmetry algebras are derived. The route to their integration is

Is it possible to store spotted wolffish (Anarhichas minor) sperm by refrigeration?
Spotted wolffish Anarhichas minor reproduction in captivity is dependent on in vitro fertilization. However, it is often challenging to acquire sufficient fresh sperm to fertilize the eggs that are obtained. In this study, we evaluate the possibility to store spotted wolffish sperm by refrigeration. Spotted wolffish sperm has the particularity that is already motile on stripping, and currently it is not possible to immobilize and reactivate. Thus, sperm refrigeration protocols should focus in extending this motility period that usually lasts up to 2 days. In a first experiment, we evaluated the possibility that the motility period of the sperm was limited by contamination with urine. The urea concentration in the sperm obtained both by stripping (17.10 ± 1.98 mg/dL) and directly from the testis (12.59 ± 2.37 mg/dL) was similar (p > 0.05), which indicate that the sperm collection method used avoid contamination with urine. Afterwards, we tested the possibility that the sperm motility period was limited by energy stores. The ATP concentration (initial value 5.65 ± 0.86 nmol/109 cells) remained stable (p = 0.099) during 30 h after sperm collection, and similar values (p = 0.329) were recorded at end of sperm storage in both diluted (3.88 ± 1.35 nmol/109 cells) and undiluted samples (4.76 ± 1.08 nmol/109). This indicates that the low intracellular ATP consumption, derived from the slow sperm motility, can probably be compensated rapidly enough by mitochondrial synthesis of ATP in the spotted wolffish sperm. Quasi-exact solvability beyond the SL(2) algebraization
We present evidence to suggest that the study of one dimensional
quasi-exactly solvable (QES) models in quantum mechanics should be extended
beyond the usual \sla(2) approach. The motivation is twofold: We first show
that certain quasi-exactly solvable potentials constructed with the \sla(2)
Lie algebraic method allow for a new larger portion of the spectrum to be
obtained algebraically. This is done via another algebraization in which the
algebraic hamiltonian cannot be expressed as a polynomial in the generators of
\sla(2). We then show an example of a new quasi-exactly solvable potential

On the families of orthogonal polynomials associated to the Razavy potential
We show that there are two different families of (weakly) orthogonal
polynomials associated to the quasi-exactly solvable Razavy potential V(x)=(\z
\cosh 2x-M)^2 (\z>0, ). One of these families encompasses the
four sets of orthogonal polynomials recently found by Khare and Mandal, while
the other one is new. These results are extended to the related periodic
potential U(x)=-(\z \cos 2x -M)^2, for which we also construct two different
families of weakly orthogonal polynomials. We prove that either of these two
families yields the ground state (when is odd) and the lowest lying gaps in
the energy spectrum of the latter periodic potential up to and including the
gap and having the same parity as . Moreover, we show
that the algebraic eigenfunctions obtained in this way are the well-known
finite solutions of the Whittaker--Hill (or Hill's three-term) periodic
differential equation. Thus, the foregoing results provide a Lie-algebraic
justification of the fact that the Whittaker--Hill equation (unlike, for

Experimental adiabatic vortex ratchet effect in Nb films with asymmetric pinning trap
Nb films grown on top of an array of asymmetric pinning centers show a vortex ratchet effect. A net flow of vortices is induced when the vortex lattice is driven by fluctuating forces on an array of pinning centers without reflection symmetry. This effect occurs in the adiabatic regime and it could be mimiced only by reversible DC driven forces
