    A Report on Myelosuppressive and Lymphopenic Effects of Hexavalent Chromium in a Murine Model

    Both leucocyte and erythrocyte counts of blood sharply decreased in Swiss mice after 2 weeks of intraperitoneal treatment with potassium dichromate (4 mg/Kg for 5 days per week). A marked neutropenia along with a relative rise in lymphocyte count were also noted. Chromosomal abnormalities (chromatid break, ring chromosome formation and aneuploidy) and micronucleus formation were observed in both lymphopoietic and myelopoietic tissues (spleen and bone marrow, respectively). The overall findings indicate that a cytotoxic potential of hexavalent chromium may result in myelosuppression, lymphopenia as well as suppression of erythropoiesis. However, a higher incidence of chromosomal abnormalities and micronucleated cells in the bone marrow than in the spleen suggests hexavalent chromium to be relatively more myelosuppressive than lymphopenic in action

    We report on a search for a high mass, narrow width particle that decays directly to e+mu, e+tau, or mu+tau. We use approximately 110 pb^-1 of data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab from 1992 to 1995. No evidence of lepton flavor violating decays is found.     Search for the supersymmetric partner of the top quark in dilepton events from p(p)over-bar collisions at root s=1.8 TeV

    We have searched for the supersymmetric partner of the top quark (stop) in 107 pb^{-1} of p-pbar collisions at \sqrt{s}= 1.8 TeV collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). Within the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) each of the pair-produced stops is assumed to decay into a lepton, bottom quark and supersymmetric neutrino. Such a scenario would give rise to events with two leptons, two hadronic jets, and a substantial imbalance of transverse energy. No evidence of such a stop signal has been found. We calculate a 95% confidence level (C.L.) upper limit on the stop production cross section, which excludes stop masses in the region (80<m_{\stop}<135 GeV/c^2) in the mass plane of stop versus sneutrino.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures.     We present a search for associated production of the Y(1S) and a vector boson in 83 pb(-1) of p (p) over bar collisions at roots=1.8 TeV collected by the CDF experiment in 1994-1995. We find no evidence of the searched signal in the data, and set upper limits to the production cross sections

    Central pseudorapidity gaps in events with a leading antiproton at the Fermilab tevatron (p)over-barp collider

    We report a measurement of the fraction of events with a large pseudorapidity gap Deltaeta within the pseudorapidity region available to the proton dissociation products X in (p) over bar +p--&gt;(p) over bar +X. For a final state (p) over bar of fractional momentum loss xi((p) over bar) and 4-momentum transfer squared t((p) over bar) within 0.063 is found to be 0.246+/-0.001 (stat)+/-0.042 (syst) [0.184+/-0.001 (stat)+/-0.043 (syst)]. Our results are compared with gap fractions measured in minimum bias (p) over barp collisions and with theoretical expectations

    Not AvailableUnderstanding the physical quality of soil that influences its hydraulic behaviour helps in formulating appropriate water management strategies for sustainable crop production. Saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks) is a key factor governing the hydraulic properties of soils. Ks can be estimated through various techniques. In the present article we have developed and validated the regression models to predict Ks of the soils of the Indo- Gangetic Plains (IGP) and the black soil regions (BSR) under different bioclimatic systems. While particle size distribution was found to be a key factor to predict Ks of the BSR soils, organic carbon was found useful for the IGP soils. Moreover, the models for Ks of both soils were strengthened by putting in CaCO3 and exchangeable sodium percentage content. It seems there is ample scope to study the interaction process for revising Ks to desired levels through management practices in these two important food-growing zones. An index of soil physical quality, derived from the inflection points of the soil moisture characteristic curves could well explain the impact of management practices on soil physical quality.Not Availabl
