Quantum mechanical scattering investigation of the thermionic and field induced emission components of the dark current in quantum well infrared photodetectors
The thermionic emission and field induced emission components of the dark current in quantum well infrared photodetectors are investigated using a quantum mechanical scattering theory approach. Calculations are performed for an experimentally reported device. Using this as a standard, the device dimensions were altered in order to increase its detection wavelength to cover the mid- (MIR) and far-infrared (FIR) regions of the spectrum. The behavior of the scattering mechanisms that contribute to the thermionic emission and field induced emission components were studied. The results highlight the change in the dominating scattering mediator across the MIR and FIR bands. © 2002 American Institute of Physics
Respon Pertumbuhan Tanaman Kangkung Darat(ipomoea Reptans Poir) Terhadap Pupuk Bioboost Dan Pupuk Za
Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menentukan upaya untuk meningkatkan produksi kangkung darat (Ipomoea reptans Poir). Tumbuh tanaman dan produksi yang tinggi dapat dicapai dengan mengamati kebutuhan dan perawatan intensif berkembang. Salah satu cara penting bahwa fertilisasi pemeliharaan. Tujuan dari belajar untuk mengetahui pengaruh pupuk dan pupuk kandang Bioboost ZA terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi selada darat. Penelitian dilakukan di Desa Lempeni, Kecamatan Tempeh, Lumajang pada 8 Juli 2015 sampai dengan 19 Agustus 2015. Metode penelitian dilaksanakan menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok (RAK) faktorial dengan dua faktor. Faktor pertama adalah konsentrasi Bioboost pupuk terdiri dari: tanpa pupuk Bioboost 0 ml / l air, konsentrasi pupuk Bioboost dari 2 ml / l air, konsentrasi pupuk Bioboost dari 4 ml / l air dan Bioboost pupuk konsentrasi 6 ml / l air. Faktor kedua terdiri dari: tanpa ZA 0 g, 7,5 g dosis ZA, ZA dosis 15 g dan 22,5 dosis g ZA. Setiap kombinasi perlakuan diulang tiga kali. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan pupuk Bioboost menunjukkan secara signifikan berbeda tanggapan dan sangat signifikan untuk tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, panjang daun, diameter dan volume akar batang. Untuk ZA menunjukkan respon yang sama. Namun, interaksi pupuk ZA Bioboost tidak menunjukkan respon terhadap kangkung darat (Ipomoea reptans Poir)
Statistical model for intermittent plasma edge turbulence
The Probability Distribution Function of plasma density fluctuations at the
edge of fusion devices is known to be skewed and strongly non-Gaussian. The
causes of this peculiar behaviour are, up to now, largely unexplored. On the
other hand, understanding the origin and the properties of edge turbulence is a
key issue in magnetic fusion research. In this work we show that a stochastic
fragmentation model, already successfully applied to fluid turbulence, is able
to predict an asymmetric distribution that closely matches experimental data.
The asymmetry is found to be a direct consequence of intermittency. A
discussion of our results in terms of recently suggested BHP universal curve
[S.T. Bramwell, P.C.W. Holdsworth, J.-F. Pinton, Nature (London) 396, 552
(1998)], that should hold for strongly correlated and critical systems, is also

Concurrent Computing with Shared Replicated Memory
The behavioural theory of concurrent systems states that any concurrent
system can be captured by a behaviourally equivalent concurrent Abstract State
Machine (cASM). While the theory in general assumes shared locations, it
remains valid, if different agents can only interact via messages, i.e. sharing
is restricted to mailboxes. There may even be a strict separation between
memory managing agents and other agents that can only access the shared memory
by sending query and update requests to the memory agents. This article is
dedicated to an investigation of replicated data that is maintained by a memory
management subsystem, whereas the replication neither appears in the requests
nor in the corresponding answers. We show how the behaviour of a concurrent
system with such a memory management can be specified using concurrent
communicating ASMs. We provide several refinements of a high-level ground model
addressing different replication policies and internal messaging between data
centres. For all these refinements we analyse their effects on the runs such
that decisions concerning the degree of consistency can be consciously made.Comment: 23 page
Linear optics implementation of general two-photon projective measurement
We will present a method of implementation of general projective measurement
of two-photon polarization state with the use of linear optics elements only.
The scheme presented succeeds with a probability of at least 1/16. For some

Phase transitions as topology changes in configuration space: an exact result
The phase transition in the mean-field XY model is shown analytically to be
related to a topological change in its configuration space. Such a topology
change is completely described by means of Morse theory allowing a computation
of the Euler characteristic--of suitable submanifolds of configuration
space--which shows a sharp discontinuity at the phase transition point, also at
finite N. The present analytic result provides, with previous work, a new key
to a possible connection of topological changes in configuration space as the

Deregulated expression of aurora kinases is not a prognostic biomarker in papillary thyroid cancer patients.
Abstract
A number of reports indicated that Aurora-A or Aurora-B overexpression represented a negative prognostic factor in several human malignancies. In thyroid cancer tissues a deregulated expression of Aurora kinases has been also demonstrated, butno information regarding its possible prognostic role in differentiated thyroid cancer is available. Here, weevaluated Aurora-A and Aurora-B mRNA expression and its prognostic relevance in a series of 87 papillary thyroid cancers (PTC), with a median follow-up of 63 months. The analysis of Aurora-A and Aurora-B mRNA levels in PTC tissues, compared to normal matched tissues, revealed that their expression was either up-or down-regulatedin the majority of cancer tissues. In particular, Aurora-A and Aurora-B mRNA levels were altered, respectively, in 55 (63.2%) and 79 (90.8%) out of the 87 PTC analyzed. A significant positive correlation between Aurora-A and Aurora-B mRNAswas observed (p=0.001). The expression of both Aurora genes was not affected by the BRAF(V600E) mutation. Univariate, multivariate and Kaplan-Mayer analyses documented the lack of association between Aurora-A or Aurora-B expression and clinicopathological parameterssuch as gender, age, tumor size, histology, TNM stage, lymph node metastasis and BRAF status as well asdisease recurrences or disease-free interval. Only Aurora-B mRNA was significantly higher in T(3-4) tissues, with respect to T(1-2) PTC tissues. The data reported here demonstrate that the expression of Aurora kinases is deregulated in the majority of PTC tissues, likely contributing to PTC progression. However, differently from other human solid cancers, detection of Aurora-A or Aurora-B mRNAs is not a prognostic biomarker inPTC patients
To what extent can dynamical models describe statistical features of turbulent flows?
Statistical features of "bursty" behaviour in charged and neutral fluid
turbulence, are compared to statistics of intermittent events in a GOY shell
model, and avalanches in different models of Self Organized Criticality (SOC).
It is found that inter-burst times show a power law distribution for turbulent
samples and for the shell model, a property which is shared only in a
particular case of the running sandpile model. The breakdown of self-similarity
generated by isolated events observed in the turbulent samples, is well
reproduced by the shell model, while it is absent in all SOC models considered.
On this base, we conclude that SOC models are not adequate to mimic fluid
turbulence, while the GOY shell model constitutes a better candidate to

Statistical features of edge turbulence in RFX-mod from Gas Puffing Imaging
Plasma density fluctuations in the edge plasma of the RFX-mod device are
measured through the Gas Puffing Imaging Diagnostics. Statistical features of
the signal are quantified in terms of the Probability Distribution Function
(PDF), and computed for several kinds of discharges. The PDFs from discharges
without particular control methods are found to be adequately described by a
Gamma function, consistently with the recent results by Graves et al [J.P.
Graves, et al, Plasma Phys. Control. Fusion 47, L1 (2005)]. On the other hand,
pulses with external methods for plasma control feature modified PDFs. A first
empirical analysis suggests that they may be interpolated through a linear
combination of simple functions. An inspection of the literature shows that
this kind of PDFs is common to other devices as well, and has been suggested to
be due to the simultaneous presence of different mechanisms driving
respectively coherent bursts and gaussian background turbulence. An attempt is
made to relate differences in the PDFs to plasma conditions such as the local
shift of the plasma column. A simple phenomenological model to interpret the
nature of the PDF and assign a meaning to its parameters is also developed.Comment: 27 pages. Published in PPC
