    Supersymmetric And Smooth Hybrid Inflation In The Light Of WMAP3

    In their minimal form both supersymmetric and smooth hybrid inflation yield a scalar spectral index n_s close to 0.98, to be contrasted with the result n_s=0.951+0.015-0.019 from WMAP3. To realize better agreement, following hep-ph/0604198, we extend the parameter space of these models by employing a non-minimal Kaehler potential. We also discuss non-thermal leptogenesis by inflaton decay and obtain new bounds in these models on the reheat temperature to explain the observed baryon asymmetry.Comment: 21 pages, 12 figures, revtex4. v2: minor revisions, additional references, to appear in PR

    Antioxidant activities of the selected plants from the family Euphorbiaceae, Lauraceae, Malvaceae and Balsaminaceae

    Extraction of nine plants selected from the family Euphorbiaceae, Lauraceae, Malvaceae and Balsaminaceae was done in petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol/n-butanol in order of increasing polarity using soxhlet apparatus. Total phenolic contents were determined with Folin- Ciocalteu reagent which ranged from 30.5 to 547.0 mg GAE/g of extract. Maximum phenolic contents were found in n-butanol extract of Ricinus communis. Antioxidant activities of these extracts were evaluated through DPPH• radical scavenging, phosphomolybdate and ferric thiocyanate (FTC) methods. Methanolic extract of Cinnamomum zeylanicum and Cinnamomum tamala showed highest antiradical (96.8%) and phosphomolybdate (1.131) activity, respectively, while ethyl acetate extract of R. communis exhibited maximum lipid per-oxidation (FTC) activity (79.3%). IC50 value of chloroform extract of C. tamala (2.2 g/ml) was less than gallic acid (4.4 g/ml), while ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of Abutilon bidentatum, Impatiens bicolor and Impatiens edgeworthii exhibited the IC50 values in the range of 10.0 - 20.0 g/ml

    Evaluating the Perception and Awareness of Patients Regarding Ovarian Cysts in Peshawar, Pakistan

    Purpose: To evaluate patients’ perception regarding ovarian cyst as well as their awareness of the symptoms and health management of the disease.Methods: A quantitative research approach was used to conduct this study. Patients were selected from the Gynecology wards, Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar and a questionnaire was designed to evaluate the patients’ knowledge and awareness.Results: When women were asked if they had prior knowledge about the ovarian cyst, 37 (58.7 %) responded that they were first told by the  physician during their visit to the clinic or hospital while the patients  responded, “Still don’t know” are 22 (34.9 %). With respect to educational level of the patients, they seemed to be less aware of the disease. Their perception regarding the disease is that they had a “water filled” balloon or tumor.Conclusion: Prior to discharge of an ovarian cyst patient from the hospital, she should be counseled on the disease and successful treatment outcomes. Counseling of the patients may result in compliance with therapy, good quality of life and lower economic burden.Keywords: Ovarian cyst, Menstrual cycle, Awareness, Perception, Treatment outcome

    Green training and development revolutionizing organizational performance : the moderating role of green employee involvement in the Bangladeshi pharmaceutical industry

    Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) has been found to positively affect job satisfaction (JS) and job performance as employees are more engaged and motivated to improve organizational performance (OP). However, few studies have investigated this phenomenon, and none have examined green employee involvement (GEI) within the Bangladeshi context. Therefore, this study examines the moderating role of GEI and the mediating role of JS and employee motivation (EM) on green training and development (GTD), organizational commitment (OC), and OP among pharmaceutical companies in Bangladesh and contributes to the theories of action and job performance and of ability-motivation-opportunity. Self-administered surveys were sent to executives working in 10 pharmaceutical companies in Bangladesh, and data were collected from 180 respondents using convenience sampling. These findings show that the GTD positively influenced OC and OP. Additionally, GEI played a significant moderating role between GTD and OC and GTD and OP. The study also revealed that JS played a significant mediating role between GTD and OC and, GTD, and OP. However, EM did not play a mediating role between GTD and OC and GTD and OP. Based on the research findings, pharmaceutical companies in Bangladesh should embrace GHRM practices, prioritize GTD, foster EI, and nurture JS, which are crucial for enhancing OC and OP. These recommendations contribute to a better understanding of sustainable HR practices and underscore the importance of aligning environmental goals with organizational success. The limitations of this study include limited generalizability, convenience sampling, cross-sectional design, self-report bias, limited mediation analysis, and omitted variables. To address these limitations, future research should employ a more diverse and representative sample, use longitudinal designs to establish causal relationships, incorporate qualitative methods to gather in-depth insights, and include a broader range of variables

    Synthesis of DMEA-Grafted Anion Exchange Membrane for Adsorptive Discharge of Methyl Orange from Wastewaters

    This manuscript describes the synthesis of dimethylethanolamine (DMEA)-grafted anion exchange membrane (AEM) by incorporating dimethylethanolamine as ion-exchange content into the polymer matrix via the solution casting method. The synthesis of the DMEA-grafted AEM was demonstrated by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The prepared DMEA-grafted AEM exhibited higher thermal stability, homogeneous morphology, water uptake (WR) of 115%, and an ion exchange capacity (IEC) of 2.70 meq/g. It was used for the adsorptive removal of methyl orange (MO) from an aqueous solution via batch processing. The effect of several operating factors, including contact time, membrane dosage, initial concentration of aqueous dye solution, and temperature on the percentage discharge of MO and adsorption capacity, was evaluated. Experimental data for adsorption of MO onto the DMEA-grafted AEM was analyzed with two parameter and three parameter nonlinear adsorption isotherm models but fitted best using a nonlinear Freundlich isotherm. Adsorption kinetics were studied by using several models, and attained results showed that experimental data fitted well to pseudo-second-order kinetics. A thermodynamic study showed that adsorption of MO onto the prepared DMEA-grafted AEM was an endothermic process. Moreover, it was a feasible and spontaneous process

    Design and study of a small implantable antenna design for blood glucose monitoring

    In this paper, a miniaturized implantable antenna with the dimensions of 8Ă—8Ă—1 mm3 has been studied for continuous monitoring of Blood Glucose Levels (BGL). The antenna performance is analyzed numerically for both the free space and implanted operation. The results show that the works excellently in both the scenarios. The antenna has the lowest resonant frequency of 3.58 GHz in free space with a gain 1.18 GHz while it operates at 2.58 GHz with a gain of 4.18 dBi. Good performance, small size and resilience to the human body effects make the antenna to have a good potential use in future implantable glucose monitoring devices

    Moringa oleifera Lam. (family Moringaceae) leaf extract attenuates high-fat diet-induced dyslipidemia and vascular endothelium dysfunction in Wistar albino rats

    Purpose: To investigate the protective effect of methanol extract of Moringa oleifera leaves (MEMO) in high-fat diet (HFD)-induced dyslipidemia and vascular endothelium dysfunction. Methods: Dose-dependent attenuating effect of MEMO was tested at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg/day in an in vivo model of HFD-induced dyslipidemia using rats whereas vascular endothelial reactivity was assessed in isolated rat aorta using ex vivo organ bath setup. Results: MEMO administration in HFD-induced dyslipidemic rats for 3 consecutive weeks, resulted in significant decrease in rat body weight, LW/BW and RFPW/BW ratio when compared to rats treated with HFD only where an increase in body weight was observed. Decrease in the average daily feed intake and significant reductions in waist, Lee index and BMI was also observed after MEMO treatment in HFD-induced dyslipidemic rats. Lipid profile data indicate that HFD group showed significant increase in total cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL and VLDL levels while HDL levels decreased significantly. On the other hand, MEMO treatment improved lipid profile compared to HFD group. Ex-vivo isolated aorta results revealed that MEMO treatment reversed HFD-induced endothelium dysfunction when compared to SD group. Conclusion: MEMO treatment produces dose-dependent improvement in lipid profile and vascular endothelium protection, thereby rationalizing its traditional medicine use in the treatment of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular related endothelial disorders

    Synthesis of some new propanamide derivatives bearing 4- piperidinyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole, and their evaluation as promising anticancer agents

    Purpose: To sequentially synthesize piperidine-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester-appended 1,3,4-oxadiazole hybrids and to evaluate them as anticancer agents.Methods: Ethyl 1-[(4-methylphenyl)sulfonyl]-4-piperidinecarboxylate (1) was synthesized from 4- methylbenzenesulfonylchloride (a) and ethyl 4-piperidinecarboxylate (b). Compound (1) was converted into ethyl 1-[(4-methylphenyl)sulfonyl]-4-piperidine carbohydrazides (2) and 5-{1-[(4- methylphenyl)sulfonyl]-4-piperidinyl}-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thiol (3) respectively. A variety of aryl amine (4a-l) were treated with 2-bromopropionylbromide to synthesize an array of propanamide (5a-l). Finally, 5-{1-[(4-methylphenyl)sulfonyl]-4-piperidinyl}-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thiol (3) and propanamides (5a-l) were reacted to synthesize target compounds (6a-l). Purity compounds 6a-l was confirmed by spectroscopic techniques like (1H-NMR), (13C-NMR) and EI-MS. To determine their anticancer potential, the change in absorbance of mixture and cell line before and after incubation was determined.Results: All the compounds 6a-l were successfully synthesized in 73-85 % yield. Compounds 6h, 6j and 6e have low IC50 (±SD) values of 20.12 ± 6.20, 10.84 ± 4.2 and 24.57 ± 1.62 μM to act as strong anticancer agents relative to doxorubicin (0.92 ± 0.1 μM) used as a reference.Conclusion: The synthesized propanamide derivatives bearing 4-piperidinyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole are potential anticancer agents, but further studies, especially in vivo, are required to ascertain their therapeutic usefulness.Keywords: Ethyl isonipecotate, Propanamides, 1,3,4-Oxadiazole, Anti-cancer activit

    Privacy, security and usability for IoT-enabled weight loss apps

    © 2020 Science and Information Organization. Obesity is considered as the main health issue worldwide. The obesity rate within Saudi's citizens is rising alarmingly. The Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled mobile apps can assist obese Saudi users in losing weight via collecting sensitive personal information and then providing accurate and personalized weight loss advice. These data can be collected using embedded IoT devices in a smartphone. However, these IoT-enabled apps should be usable and able to provide data security and user privacy protection. This paper aims to continue our usability study for two Arabic weight loss IoT-enabled apps by performing a qualitative analysis for them. It discusses users' and health professionals' feedbacks, concerns and suggestions. Based on the analysis, a comprehensive usability guideline for developing a new Arabic weight loss IoT-enabled app for obese Saudi users is provided
