    Get PDF
A software package called FIDA is developed and implemented in PC MATLAB for estimating aircraft stability and control derivatives from flight test data using different system identification techniques. FIDA also contains data pre-processing tools to remove wild points and high frequency noise components from measured flight data. FIDA is a menu driven and user interactive software which is useful to scientists/flight test engineers/pilots who are engaged in experimental flights and analysis of flight test data. Also it has an educational value for students and practising engineers who are new to the field of aircraft parameter estimation

School dropouts or pushouts? Overcoming barriers for the right to education

    Get PDF
Persistently high dropout rates are one of the biggest challenges to fulfilling the right to education in India. This paper attempts to assess the magnitude of the problem of dropout. The paper critically reviews the evidence on some of the commonly cited reasons for dropout, including poverty, limited to access to credit, child labour, and children’s and parents’ lack of interest in education. The paper argues that the literature rarely looks at the role of procedures and rules in schools and the wider education system in terms of pushing children out of school. It is the contention of this paper that the reason a persistently high dropout rate should be located in the absence of a social norm in terms of children’s right to education; and that this is reflected in the lack of systemic support available for children at risk of dropping out. The paper also documents an experiment initiated by MV Foundation in Shankarpalle Mandal, Ranga Reddy district, Andhra Pradesh, where procedures, rules and practices relating to various aspects of school were changed to ensure that every child stayed in school and completed elementary level

Masreliez filter which is a Kalman type of recursive filter is implemented and validated. The main computation in Masreliez filter is to evaluate the score function which directly influences the estimates of the target states. Scalar approximation for score function evaluation is extended to vector observations, implemented and validated. The simulation studies have shown that the performance of the Masreliez filter is relatively better than that of the conventional Kalman filter in the presence of significant glint noise in the observation

Input Excitation Techniques for Aerodynamic Derivatives Estimation of Highly Augmented Fighter Aircraft

    Get PDF
This paper presents the results of an investigation related to the estimation of lateral-directional aerodynamic derivatives of highly augmented and advanced fighter aircraft from the flight like response data. Different types of pilot inputs are used to generate aircraft response data in the engineer-in-loop flight simulator to determine which input excitation flight provide the most accurate estimates of aircraft stability and control derivatives. Also, MATILABI SIMULINK-based simulation platform is used to generate aircraft response with single-surface excitation to evaluate the usefulness of the method for stability and control derivatives estimation. The maximum likelihood estimation, based on output error utilisation technique is used to estimate the derivatives from the aircraft simulation response data. The results indicate that accuracy of the estimated derivatives improve with persistence excitation and single-surface excitation

Various models for predicting caries risk have been developed with good results. One such recently developed model is Cariogram. Cariogram systematize the evaluation of various risk factors for caries and recommend targeted preventive intervention based on caries risk. The aim of this study was to evaluate the caries risk among 15-40 years adults in Chennai. A retrospective study was conducted using records of patients visiting private dental college during the month of Feb 2020 to March 2020. A total of 112 case records were retrieved and analysed. Descriptive statistics in terms of frequency distribution was done to present the result. Mean chance to avoid caries was high in 36-40 years (57.8±27.1). Mean bacterial count was high for in the age group 31-35 years (14.6±7.153). Mean susceptibility was high among 21-25 years(23.6±18.8). Mean diet sector was high among 31-35 years(11.6±5.66). The association of age and chances to avoid new caries was p=0.119, circumstances was p=0.386; bacterial sector was p=0.919; susceptibility was p value=0.358 and diet was p=0.513 which was found to be statistically not significant. Males and females of age group 31-35 years have high risk for caries. Young adults have higher risk for caries with no association between age and all five components of cariogram

In the present scenario many countries in the world started giving importance for their own traditional and tribal medicines. The available treatment is only palliative and need to be taken almost life long. Considering the side effects and other complications caused by the modern drug therapy, natural medicine is attracting increasing number of people. AIM: The present study is to explore the Pharmacognostical, Phytochemical and Pharmacological studies on the seeds of Delonix regia (Boojer .Hook.) Raf. OBJECTIVE: Collection and authentication of the plant specimen. Establishing the pharmacognostical profile of the plant. Extraction of plant materials, to prepare various extracts of Delonix regia (Boojer .Hook.) Raf., seeds (hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol, water). Phytochemical screening of the crude powder and various extracts. To evaluate an in vitro antioxidant activity to identify the active extract. To evaluate the in vitro & invivo antidiabetic activity of the active extract. To isolate the active constituent present in the active extract using column chromatography. To characterize the isolated compounds by spectral studies like IR and GC – MS spectroscopy.SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION: The project entitled “Pharmacognostical, Phytochemical and pharmacological studies on Delonix regia (Boojer .Hook.) Raf.,” seeds, (Leguminosae) has been achieved by the following results. The literature survey showed that only very scrappy information was available on this plant. With the scantly information on this plant and its folklore claim to be used for diabetic but has not been scientifically reported. In pharmacognostical studies authentication plays an important key. The Delonix regia (Boojer .Hook.) Raf., was collected from Nugambakkam, chennai and authenticated by M. Palanisamy, Scientist ‘D’- In – Charge, Botanical Survey of India, Coimbatore. The pharmacognostical parameters were studied. Such as macroscopy, microscopy, powder microscopy. Histochemical studies and physicochemical constants to established. The qualitative and quantitative analysis was carried out to identify inorganic elements present in the plant. The qualitative and quantitative analysis of toxic heavy metals like cadmium, arsenic, lead and mercury were within the WHO limits and ensure the safety of the drug. The coarse powder was extracted by Hexane, Ethyl acetate, Ethanol by successive solvent extraction by hot percolation method and aqueous extract by cold maceration. The preliminary phytochemical screening of various extract and powder of the plant has revealed the presence of constituents in ethanolic extract like flavonoids, saponins, steroids and triterpenes

INTERACTING MULTIPLE MODEL SEEKER FILTER FOR TRACKING EVASIVE TARGETS

    Get PDF
Seeker filter is an important subsystem in modern homing guidance system of advanced intercepting missiles. Seeker filter design for homing guidance requirements are highly demanding and challenging. Very low filter lag, high noise attenuation are some of the challenges that need to be addressed. This paper presents an interacting multiple model augmented extended Kalman filter (IMM-AEKF) design to operate as seeker filter in close loop homing guidance of an interceptor to track evasive targets. The performance of the seeker filter is verified with six degree of freedom interceptor-target engagement simulation with seeker filter in guidance loop of the interceptor. Different filter performance criteria have been used to verify the performance of the seeker filter. The seeker filter efficiently handles the various seeker noise and provides a smooth estimate of target states to generate guidance command for intercepting missile. The miss distance achieved is within the acceptable limits

Securing Livelihoods: The Watershed Plus Approach and Emergence of ‘The Social’ in a Watershed Project in Odisha

    Get PDF
Critiques of the fact that traditional watershed development approaches favour the landed and richer sections in villages have led to the growth of the watershed-plus approach that ostensibly tries to address the needs of the landless and the poor. The present essay provides a review of the relevant social science literature on watersheds in India. Drawing upon fieldwork undertaken in an ongoing participatory watershed development project in Kalahandi, in the Indian state of Odisha, it tries to establish interlinkages between the emerging importance of livelihood-related concerns in watershed development and the ways in which this new focus is related to, what this paper calls, the emergence of ‘the social’ as a site and trope of governmental action
