    Tuning Electrical Conductivity of CNT-PDMS Nanocomposites for Flexible Electronic Applications

    This paper presents a study into the electrical conductivity of multi-wall carbon nanotube-polydimethylsiloxane (MWNT-PDMS) nanocomposite and their dependence on the filler concentration. It is observed that the electrical conductivity of the composites can be tailored by altering the filler concentration. Accordingly, the nanocomposites with filler weight ratio ranging from 1% to 8% were prepared and tested. Finally, the significance of results presented here for flexible pressure sensors and stretchable interconnects for electronic skin applications have been discussed

    Intestinal obstruction due to ileal metastasis of Ewing’s sarcoma

    We present a case report of intestinal obstruction caused by ileal metastasis of Ewing’s sarcoma. The invasive tumoral segment of the ileum was removed and the bowel continuity was provided with end-to-end anastomosis. Histopathologic examination showed tumoral invasion of the ileal mucosa and ileal wall by small blue round cells of Ewing’s sarcoma.Keywords: Ewing’s sarcoma, ileal metastasis, intestinal obstructio

    Istanbul and Tokyo had a strong competition last year in order to organize the 2020 Olympic Games. They tried to give their bests.At the end, Tokyo won the bid with the majority votes of IOC members.Olympics application package of Turkey was very impressive. But there were some very important weaknesses under some titles of Istanbul‘s application.Especially, this package was not discussed before and after the decision of IOC at the Turkish public.As we look the development of preparations of FIFA World Football Cup 2022 in Qatar, it is sure that there are chronicle problems.This gives us a certain opinion that IOC has more sensible approaches than FIFA dealing with mega events in the terms of sustainability.This study tries to give comparative and accurate information to prepare scientific application packages for future and will try to analyse pre-development and implementation of such mega organizations in the terms of economic, social and environmental sustainability

    Mechanistic force modeling for milling of carbon fiber reinforced polymers with double helix tools

    Carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) have emerged as the material of choice to satisfy increasing demand for lighter aircrafts. Machinability characteristics of CFRPs are quite different than those of metals; therefore, special tool designs have been developed for CFRP machining. The double helix end mill design compresses the upper and lower sides of the laminate using opposite helix angles that eliminate delamination. A mechanistic force model for double helix tools is developed based on milling force data obtained on flat end mills. The proposed model can be used to improve double helix tool designs and to optimize milling process parameters. © 2013 CIRP

    Synthesis of Large Area Graphene for High Performance in Flexible Optoelectronic Devices

    This work demonstrates an attractive low-cost route to obtain large area and high-quality graphene films by using the ultra-smooth copper foils which are typically used as the negative electrodes in lithium-ion batteries. We first compared the electronic transport properties of our new graphene film with the one synthesized by using commonly used standard copper foils in chemical vapor deposition (CVD). We observed a stark improvement in the electrical performance of the transistors realized on our graphene films. To study the optical properties on large area, we transferred CVD based graphene to transparent flexible substrates using hot lamination method and performed large area optical scanning. We demonstrate the promise of our high quality graphene films for large areas with ∼400 cm 2 flexible optical modulators. We obtained a profound light modulation over a broad spectrum by using the fabricated large area transparent graphene supercapacitors and we compared the performance of our devices with the one based on graphene from standard copper. We propose that the copper foils used in the lithium-ion batteries could be used to obtain high-quality graphene at much lower-cost, with the improved performance of electrical transport and optical properties in the devices made from them

    Dermatologcal Complaints of the Elderly Attending a Dermatology Outpatient Clinic in Turkey: A Prospective Study over a One-year period

    The geriatric population is continuously growing, which leads to more aged patients being admitted to dermatology clinics. The aim of this study is to determine the dermatological complaints of the elderly attending a dermatology outpatient clinic.All of the patients aged 65 years and older admitted to our dermatology outpatient clinic over a 1-year period were included. Patients were divided into 2 groups according to their ages as group I (65-74 years) and group II (≥75 years). The patients were asked about their dermatologic complaints.A total of 240 geriatric patients attended to the dermatology outpatient clinic over a 1-year period. Overall, the five most frequent dermatologic complaints of the patients were eczematous dermatitis (21.7%), pruritus (19.6%), fungal infections (16.7%), precancerous and malignant lesions (9.6%), and bacterial infections (7.1%). The most frequent types of eczematous dermatitis were asteatotic eczema (26.9%), neurodermatitis (26.9%), and stasis dermatitis (17.3%). Among fungal infections, the most frequent was tinea pedis (62.5%), followed by onychomycosis (32.5%) and tinea versicolor (5.0%). The most common precancerous lesion was actinic keratosis (78.3%). Bacterial infections encountered were pyoderma (58.8%), cellulitis (23.5%), and erythrasma (17.6%).Most of the skin problems in the elderly are preventable or treatable, so proper skin care and treatment of skin diseases should be emphasized in general health care for the elderly. </p

    Objective: This study investigated whether electromyelography (EMG) evaluation is helpful in the late phase after surgical treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). Methods: This retrospective study included 35 patients who underwent mini-open decompression therapy between 2008 and 2011 with CTS diagnosis. Patients were assessed electrophysiologically and clinically with Patient Evaluation Measurement (PEM) scoring and handgrip, palmar grip, lateral grip, and fingertip grip strength. Additionally, patients' clinical scores and strength values were compared with electrophysiologic values from preoperative and postoperative 4-year controls. Results: According to the Padua classification, EMG data were classified before and after surgery. One patient had extreme grade, four patients had severe grade, 26 patients had moderate grade, and four had a mild grade before surgery. At the postoperative 4th year EMG follow-up, six patients were classified as minimal and 29 as negative. According to the PEM scale, the mean score before surgery was 58.77±7.89, and in the controls at the 4th year after surgery, the mean score was 13.48±4.01. The strength of the operated hand was significantly weaker than that of the contralateral healthy hand before surgery. However, in the controls at the 4th year after surgery, the strength of the operated hand was significantly increased compared with the preoperative period, and there was no significant difference from the contralateral hand. Conclusion: Electrophysiological assessment (EMG) in the late phase after surgical treatment of CTS has positive parallels with clinical assessment and strength assessment.
