    Ginzburg-Landau theory of the cluster glass phase

    On the basis of a recent field theory for site-disordered spin glasses a Ginzburg-Landau free energy is proposed to describe the low temperatures glassy phase(s) of site-disordered magnets. The prefactors of the cubic and dominant quartic terms change gradually along the transition line in the concentration-temperature phase diagram.     Theory of site-disordered magnets

    In realistic spinglasses, such as CuMn, AuFe and EuSrS, magnetic atoms are located at random positions. Their couplings are determined by their relative positions. For such systems a field theory is formulated. In certain limits it reduces to the Hopfield model, the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model, and the Viana-Bray model. The model has a percolation transition, while for RKKY couplings the ``concentration scaling'' T_g proportional to c occurs. Within the Gaussian approximation the Ginzburg-Landau expansion is considered in the clusterglass phase, that is to say, for not too small concentrations. Near special points, the prefactor of the cubic term, or the one of the replica-symmetry- breaking quartic term, may go through zero.     Why don't clumps of cirrus dust gravitationally collapse?

    We consider the Herschel-Planck infrared observations of presumed condensations of interstellar material at a measured temperature of approximately 14 K (Juvela et al., 2012), the triple point temperature of hydrogen. The standard picture is challenged that the material is cirrus-like clouds of ceramic dust responsible for Halo extinction of cosmological sources (Finkbeiner, Davis, and Schlegel 1999). Why would such dust clouds not collapse gravitationally to a point on a gravitational free-fall time scale of 10810^8 years? Why do the particles not collide and stick together, as is fundamental to the theory of planet formation (Blum 2004; Blum and Wurm, 2008) in pre-solar accretion discs? Evidence from 3.3 μ\mum and UIB emissions as well as ERE (extended red emission) data point to the dominance of PAH-type macromolecules for cirrus dust, but such fractal dust will not spin in the manner of rigid grains (Draine & Lazarian, 1998). IRAS dust clouds examined by Herschel-Planck are easily understood as dark matter Proto-Globular-star-Cluster (PGC) clumps of primordial gas planets, as predicted by Gibson (1996) and observed by Schild (1996).Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, Conference FQMT'1

    Thermodynamics of black holes: an analogy with glasses

    The present equilibrium formulation of thermodynamics for black holes has several drawbacks, such as assuming the same temperature for black hole and heat bath. Recently the author formulated non-equilibrium thermodynamics for glassy systems. This approach is applied to black holes, with the cosmic background temperature being the bath temperature, and the Hawking temperature the internal temperature. Both Hawking evaporation and absorption of background radiation are taken into account.     Entanglement Energetics in the Ground State

    We show how many-body ground state entanglement information may be extracted from sub-system energy measurements at zero temperature. A precise relation between entanglement and energy fluctuations is demonstrated in the weak coupling limit. Examples are given with the two-state system and the harmonic oscillator, and energy probability distributions are calculated.     "Optical conductance fluctuations: diagrammatic analysis in Landauer approach and non-universal effects"

    The optical conductance of a multiple scattering medium is the total transmitted light of a diffuse incoming beam. This quantity, very analogous to the electronic conductance, exhibits universal conductance fluctuations. We perform a detailed diagrammatic analysis of these fluctuations. With a Kadanoff-Baym technique all the leading diagrams are systematically generated. A cancellation of the short distance divergencies occurs, that yields a well behaved theory. The analytical form of the fluctuations is calculated and applied to optical systems.
