Apollo experience report: Development flight instrumentation

    Get PDF
Development flight instrumentation was delivered for 25 Apollo vehicles as Government-furnished equipment. The problems and philosophies of an activity that was concerned with supplying telemetry equipment to a space-flight test program are discussed. Equipment delivery dates, system-design details, and flight-performance information for each mission also are included

Debatable land: an essay on the relationship between English and Scottish criminal law

    Get PDF
This article proposes that a better understanding of the identity of Scots criminal law can be developed through an analysis of the similarities between English and Scots law rather than by concentrating on the differences. It argues that historically there are striking similarities between the two laws which have been overlooked or ignoredfor various reasons. It goes on to argue that many ofthe current differences between the two laws can be explained in terms of contemporary academic and institutional conditions, and that these offer a betterfoundation on which to construct a principled theoretical understanding of Scots criminal law

Single Curve Collapse of the Price Impact Function for the New York Stock Exchange

We study the average price impact of a single trade executed in the NYSE. After appropriate averaging and rescaling, the data for the 1000 most highly capitalized stocks collapse onto a single function, giving average price shift as a function of trade size. This function increases as a power that is the order of 1/2 for small volumes, but then increases more slowly for large volumes. We obtain similar results in each year from the period 1995 - 1998. We also find that small volume liquidity scales as a power of the stock capitalization.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Uniform asymptotics of the coefficients of unitary moment polynomials

Keating and Snaith showed that the 2kth2k^{th} absolute moment of the characteristic polynomial of a random unitary matrix evaluated on the unit circle is given by a polynomial of degree k2k^2. In this article, uniform asymptotics for the coefficients of that polynomial are derived, and a maximal coefficient is located. Some of the asymptotics are given in explicit form. Numerical data to support these calculations are presented. Some apparent connections between random matrix theory and the Riemann zeta function are discussed.Comment: 31 pages, 1 figure, 2 tables. Some Blood Parasites from Birds In Central Iowa

    Get PDF
During 1957, 1958, and 1959, blood smears from 568 birds were examined. Ninety-nine (17.25%) of these birds were found to harbor haemosporidian parasites. Four species of birds harbored Plasmodium, four species were infected with Leucocytozoon, and five species with Haemoproteus. Trypanosomes and microfilariae were observed in two species

Assessing storage reliability of farm dams

    Get PDF
This report provides information on a method to estimate the volume of water in a farm dam and to determine how long this water will last. During periods of low rainfall, dams with farmland catchments receive limited run-off. Alternative water sources or management strategies need to be considered before the water runs out. The methods provided in this report are intended to provide to the landholder an indication of water supply over short periods only (i.e. in the order of 4-20 weeks)

    Autocorrelation of Random Matrix Polynomials

We calculate the autocorrelation functions (or shifted moments) of the characteristic polynomials of matrices drawn uniformly with respect to Haar measure from the groups U(N), O(2N) and USp(2N). In each case the result can be expressed in three equivalent forms: as a determinant sum (and hence in terms of symmetric polynomials), as a combinatorial sum, and as a multiple contour integral. These formulae are analogous to those previously obtained for the Gaussian ensembles of Random Matrix Theory, but in this case are identities for any size of matrix, rather than large-matrix asymptotic approximations. They also mirror exactly autocorrelation formulae conjectured to hold for L-functions in a companion paper. This then provides further evidence in support of the connection between Random Matrix Theory and the theory of L-functions

    Parmeener supergroup (Lower Part) Poatina

    Get PDF
In Tasmania, the lower (Permo-Carboniferous) rocks of the Parmeener Supergroup are almost everywhere subhorizontal, and rest with pronounced landscape unconformity on a folded basement sequence, which is variously composed of Precambrian and early Palaeozoic strata. In order to appreciate the late Palaeozoic history of the Central Plateau district, it is necessary to understand the nature of this unconformity
