    Kritik Hukum Islam Atas Sanksi Pidana Pelaku Prostitusi dalam Peraturan Daerah

    This article examines the Regional regulations relating to prohibition of prostitution in Indonesia from the perspectives of Indonesian Law and Islamic Criminal Law. As this study reveals, a number of contradiction occurs between Regional Regulations with Criminal Code. Such contradictions can be found in a number of regional regulations prohibiting prostitution, such as : No. 5/2002 of Cirebon Regency; Regulation No. 6/2003 of Medan City; Regulation No. 2 /2004 of Palembang City, Regulation No. 13/2002 of South Sumatra Province, etc. The contradictions include the determination of the authorized officers to handle the matter, the rules in case of erroneous arrest, and the determination of sanctions. The Criminal Code sets aside sanctions for Commercial Sex Workers (CSWs) and users of CSWs. It only prohibits of facilitating the immoral acts by other parties..     Gendered Dimensions of Key Value Chains in Southwestern Morocco

    The Morocco Green Plan (MGP) has delivered significant economic benefits to small farm households. A concentration on improving efficiency and profitability within value chains for key local commodities has, through the creation of women’s cooperatives, also led to positive outcomes in female empowerment. Through qualitative and participatory research methods, our analysis of gendered aspects of value chains for argan, rose, cactus, and saffron in southwestern Morocco suggests that economic empowerment, fostered through existing women’s cooperatives, is fragile and subject to significant threats. In large part, this is the result of a state-driven approach that has not effectively considered the inequities inherent within value chains for key local commodities; and the meshing of existing social and cultural norms with the tenets of a national drive toward ‘modernization’ of the agricultural sector. We suggest that the MGP is gender blind in this respect. Couching value chain enhancement initiatives within an innovation systems framework, as opposed to a state-centric process, is more likely to achieve well-being within rural communities, together with sustainable (social and economic) returns within pro-poor value chains

    Descriptive Study on Demographic Factors and Performance Strategies among Athletes

    The purpose of this research is to investigate the differences in demographic factors and performance strategies among athletes. The demographic factors such as gender, years of study and years of involvement in sports played an important role in the use of performance strategies in determining their performance strategies in sports. The instruments used for this research is Test of Performance Strategies (TOPS) to measure the performance strategies. The finding shows that the demographic factors significantly differences on performance strategies. In general the result showed the demographic factors such as; gender at t (21) = 13.75; p < .05; years of study at t (21) = 9.46; p < .05 and years of involvement at t (20) = 11.37; p < .05 with performance strategies. The above results showed that the demographic factors revealed statistically significantly differences with performance strategies. In addition, the demographic factors also showed the significant differences with all sub factors in performance strategies such as goal setting, relaxation, activation, imagery, self talk, attentional control, emotional control and automaticity. The implication of this research is, in sports the demographic factors played an important role in determining their performance strategies. In order to enhance their ability and competency in sports performing they have to be trained in different style according to their age, gender, years of study and years of involvement

    Spectroscopy of vibrational modes in metal nanoshells

    We study the spectrum of vibrational modes in metal nanoparticles with a dielectric core. Vibrational modes are excited by the rapid heating of the particle lattice that takes place after laser excitation, and can be monitored by means of pump-probe spectroscopy as coherent oscillations of transient optical spectra. In nanoshells, the presence of two metal surfaces results in a substantially different energy spectrum of acoustic vibrations than for solid particles. We calculated the energy spectrum as well as the damping of nanoshell vibrational modes. The oscillator strength of fundamental breathing mode is larger than that in solid nanoparticles. At the same time, in very thin nanoshells, the fundamental mode is overdamped due to instantaneous energy transfer to the surrounding medium

    Seasonal variation in effects of herbivory on foliar nitrogen of a threatened conifer

    Invasive herbivores can dramatically impact the nitrogen (N) economy of native hosts. In deciduous species, most N is stored in stem tissues, while in evergreen conifer species N is stored in needles, making them potentially more vulnerable to herbivory. In eastern forests of the USA, the long-lived, foundational conifer eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) is under the threat of extirpation by the invasive hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA: Adelges tsugae). We assessed the impact of HWA infestation on the patterns of seasonal foliar N availability in hemlock planted in a deciduous forest understory. Over the course of a year, we sampled needles and twigs and measured N, carbon (C), C:N ratio, and total protein concentrations. Tissue sampling events were timed to coincide with key life-history transitions for HWA to determine the association between HWA development and feeding with these foliar nutrients. In uninfested trees, needle and twig N concentrations fluctuated across seasons, indicating the potential importance of N storage and remobilization for the N economy of eastern hemlock. Although N levels in HWA-infested trees also cycled annually, the degree to which N concentrations fluctuated seasonally in tissues was significantly affected by HWA feeding. These fluctuations exceeded N levels observed in control trees and coincided with HWA feeding. HWA feeding generally increased N concentrations but did not affect protein levels, suggesting that changes in N do not occur via adelgid-induced protein breakdown. Herbivore-induced mobilization of N to feeding sites and its rapid depletion may be a significant contributor to eastern hemlock mortality in US forests

    Compositional Analysis of Lignocellulosic Feedstocks. 2. Method Uncertainties

    The most common procedures for characterizing the chemical components of lignocellulosic feedstocks use a two-stage sulfuric acid hydrolysis to fractionate biomass for gravimetric and instrumental analyses. The uncertainty (i.e., dispersion of values from repeated measurement) in the primary data is of general interest to those with technical or financial interests in biomass conversion technology. The composition of a homogenized corn stover feedstock (154 replicate samples in 13 batches, by 7 analysts in 2 laboratories) was measured along with a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) reference sugar cane bagasse, as a control, using this laboratory's suite of laboratory analytical procedures (LAPs). The uncertainty was evaluated by the statistical analysis of these data and is reported as the standard deviation of each component measurement. Censored and uncensored versions of these data sets are reported, as evidence was found for intermittent instrumental and equipment problems. The censored data are believed to represent the “best case” results of these analyses, whereas the uncensored data show how small method changes can strongly affect the uncertainties of these empirical methods. Relative standard deviations (RSD) of 1−3% are reported for glucan, xylan, lignin, extractives, and total component closure with the other minor components showing 4−10% RSD. The standard deviations seen with the corn stover and NIST bagasse materials were similar, which suggests that the uncertainties reported here are due more to the analytical method used than to the specific feedstock type being analyzed

    Human Papillomavirus Type 18 E6 and E7 Genes Integrate into Human Hepatoma Derived Cell Line Hep G2

    Background and Objectives: Human papillomaviruses have been linked causally to some human cancers such as cervical carcinoma, but there is very little research addressing the effect of HPV infection on human liver cells. We chose the human hepatoma derived cell line Hep G2 to investigate whether HPV gene integration took place in liver cells as well. Methods: We applied PCR to detect the possible integration of HPV genes in Hep G2 cells. We also investigated the expression of the integrated E6 and E7 genes by using RT-PCR and Western blotting. Then, we silenced E6 and E7 expression and checked the cell proliferation and apoptosis in Hep G2 cells. Furthermore, we analyzed the potential genes involved in cell cycle and apoptosis regulatory pathways. Finally, we used in situ hybridization to detect HPV 16/18 in hepatocellular carcinoma samples. Results: Hep G2 cell line contains integrated HPV 18 DNA, leading to the expression of the E6 and E7 oncogenic proteins. Knockdown of the E7 and E6 genes expression reduced cell proliferation, caused the cell cycle arrest at the S phase, and increased apoptosis. The human cell cycle and apoptosis real-time PCR arrays analysis demonstrated E6 and E7-mediated regulation of some genes such as Cyclin H, UBA1, E2F4, p53, p107, FASLG, NOL3 and CASP14. HPV16/18 was found in only 9% (9/100) of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. Conclusion: Our investigations showed that HPV 18 E6 and E7 genes can be integrated into the Hep G2, and we observed a low prevalence of HPV 16/18 in hepatocellular carcinoma samples. However, the precise risk of HPV as causative agent of hepatocellular carcinoma needs further study
