    The Barkhatny ultramafic-mafic massif (Kuznetsk Alatau Ridge, SW Siberia): structural and compositional evolutions of rocks

    A complex of petrographic and petrofabric analyses that was carried out for rocks from an ultramafic-mafic massif of the Barkhatnaya Mountain in the Northern part of the Kuznetsk Alatau allowed us to prove that internal anisotropy of mineral aggregates had deformation-type evolution, which indicates possible plastic exhumation of lithosphere mantle fragments into upper crust levels. Additional mineralogical and geochemical researches of the basic component point out high possibility of multistage model for obduction of ophiolite association segments proposed for this region

    A complex of petrographic, petrofabric, and paleomagnetic analyses that was carried out for rocks from an ultrabasic massif of the Barkhatnaya Mountain in the Northern part of the Kuznetsk Alatau allowed us to prove that internal anisotropy of mineral aggregates had deformation-type evolution, which indicates possible plastic exhumation of lithosphere mantle fragments into upper crust levels. Complete conformity of geophysical and petrofabric parameters points out high possibility of multistage model for obduction of ophiolite association segments proposed for this region. Taking into account specifics of minerageny for such complexes (chromite ores and noble metals, asbestos and nephrites), we offer a new technology for geological prospecting works at the stage of estimating mineral potential of such geological objects, which is based on the presence of differently oriented systems of mineral plane orientation.Проведенный нами комплекс структурно-петрологических и палеомагнитных исследований для ультрабазитов Бархатно- го массива на северном склоне Кузнецкого Алатау подтверждает, что внутренняя анизотропия минеральных агрегатов име- ла деформационную эволюцию, которая указывает на возможную пластическую эксгумацию фрагментов мантии литосферы в верхние горизонты земной коры. Полное соответствие геофизических и петроструктурных параметров отмечает высокую вероятность многостадийной обдукции фрагментов офиолитовой ассоциации, предлагаемой для этого региона. Принимая во внимание особенности минерагении (хромитовые руды и благородные металлы, асбест и нефрит) для таких комплексов мы предлагаем новые методы геологоразведочных работ на стадии оценки рудоносности геологических объектов, которые харак- теризуются дискретными вариациями пространственной ориентировки элементов текстурной анизотропии пород

    Local festivals, social capital and sustainable destination development: experiences in East London

    This paper explores the nature of social capital arising from engagement in local festivals and the implications of this for the social sustainability of an emerging destination. Two case studies are developed from a longitudinal research project which investigates local festivals staged in the Hackney Wick and Fish Island area adjacent to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in East London, UK between 2008 and 2014. This area has been directly affected by extensive development and regeneration efforts associated with the staging of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The two festivals considered here respond to the challenges and opportunities arising for local people as the area changes. One festival aims to foster a sense of community by creating shared experiences and improving communication across diverse groups. The other draws together the cultural community, links them to the opportunities arising as the area emerges as a destination, and attracts visitors. These festivals increase social capital in the area, but its distribution is very uneven. The accrual of social capital exacerbates existing inequalities within the host community, favouring the “haves” at the expense of the “have nots”. There are tensions between the development of social capital and social sustainability in this emerging destination

    Financing sustainable development goals: A review of challenges and mitigation strategies

    Sustainable development goal (SDG) implementation is still at an early stage globally. Implementation of the SDGs in developing countries particularly appears very complex and challenging. A key challenge encountered by policymakers at the national and international levels is the prevailing huge financing gap. The current level of SDG-related financing and investing is far less than what is needed, and there is a growing concern on how to close this gap. This paper explores the key challenges in SDG financing and potential way-out to mitigate them, particularly in the context of developing countries. The paper reviews the existing literature and practitioner documents, identifies the key challenges, and provides a suggestive mapping of potential strategies to overcome those. The paper argues that given the current level of SDG progress and financing, the world needs immediate action to mobilize adequate financing to achieve the SDGs by the set time line of 2030

    New national and regional bryophyte records, This is the first record of Campylopus subulatus, Racomitrium elongatum and Taxiphyllum wissgrillii for the Liguria Region. Campylopus subulatus was found on small serpentinite outcrops occupied by a discontinuous plant community, with a paucispecific contingent of phanerogams dominated by succulent chamaephytes and therophytes (refered to the Sedo-Scleranthetalia order) and a richer contingent of bryophytes including Racomitrium elongatum Frisvoll, Hypnum callichroum Brid., Ceratodon purpureus (Hedw.) Brid., Grimmia donniana Sm., Dicranum scoparium Hedw. and Bryum Hedw. spp. These outcrops occur in a marshy area, mainly characterised by mountain grasslands and beech forests growing in a sub-oceanic climate. Racomitrium elongatum was found on serpentinite outcrops within the Beigua Regional Natural Park, in a beech forest and in marshy mountain grassland. Taxiphyllum wissgrillii was found a serpentinite outcrop in a deciduous mesophilic forest dominated by beech (Fagus sylvatica L., referring to the Fagion silvaticae alliance), in the Beigua Regional Natural Park
