Duality between Topologically Massive and Self-Dual models

We show that, with the help of a general BRST symmetry, different theories in 3 dimensions can be connected through a fundamental topological field theory related to the classical limit of the Chern-Simons model.Comment: 13 pages, LaTe

High pressure effects in fluorinated HgBa2Ca2Cu3O(8+d)

We have measured the pressure sensitivity of Tc in fluorinated HgBa2Ca2Cu3O(8+d) (Hg-1223) ceramic samples with different F contents, applying pressures up to 30 GPa. We obtained that Tc increases with increasing pressure, reaching different maximum values, depending on the F doping level, and decreases for a further increase of pressure. A new high Tc record (166 K +/- 1 K) was achieved by applying pressure (23 GPa) in a fluorinated Hg-1223 sample near the optimum doping level. Our results show that all our samples are at the optimal doping, and that fluorine incorporation decreases the crystallographic aa-parameter concomitantly increasing the maximum attainable Tc. This effect reveals that the compression of the aa axes is one of the keys that controls the Tc of high temperature superconductors.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.

Analysis of two competing TCP/IP connections

    Get PDF
Many mathematical models exist for describing the behavior of TCP/IP under an exogenous loss process that does not depend on the window size. The goal of this paper is to present a mathematical analysis of two asymmetric competing TCP connections where loss probabilities are directly related to their instantaneous window size, and occur when the sum of throughputs attains a given level. We obtain bounds for the stationary throughput of each connection, as well as an exact expression for symmetric connections. This allows us to further study the fairness as a function of the different round trip times. We avoid the simplifying artificial synchronization assumption that has frequently been used in the past to study similar problems, according to which whenever one connection looses a packet, the other one looses a packet as well

Las habilidad cientĂficas en los libros de texto

    Get PDF

Pattern formation in a predator-prey system characterized by a spatial scale of interaction

We describe pattern formation in ecological systems using a version of the classical Lotka-Volterra model characterized by a spatial scale which controls the predator-prey interaction range. Analytical and simulational results show that patterns can emerge in some regions of the parameters space where the instability is driven by the range of the interaction. The individual-based implementation captures realistic ecological features. In fact, spatial structures emerge in an erratic oscillatory regime which can contemplate predators' extinction.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

A useful form of the recurrence relation between relativistic atomic matrix elements of radial powers

Recently obtained recurrence formulae for relativistic hydrogenic radial matrix elements are cast in a simpler and perhaps more useful form. This is achieved with the help of a new relation between the rar^a and the ÎČrb\beta r^b terms (ÎČ\beta is a 4×44\times 4 Dirac matrix and a,ba, b are constants) in the atomic matrix elements.Comment: 7 pages, no figure

The Holographic Dual of 2+1 Dimensional QFTs with N=1 SUSY and Massive Fundamental Flavours

The Maldacena Nastase solution is generalised to include massive fundamental matter through the addition of a flavour profile. This gives a holographic dual to N=1 SYM-CS with massive fundamental matter with a singularity free IR. We study this solution in some detail confirming confinement and asymptotic freedom. A recently proposed solution generating technique is then applied which results in a new type-IIA supergravity solution. In a certain limit the geometry of this solution is asymptotically AdS_4X Y, where Y is the metric at the base of the Bryant-Salamon G_2 cone, which has topology S^3XS^3.Comment: 31 pages plus appendices, 6 figures. v3: Typos corrected, version to appear in JHE
