This study was carried out to investigate the feasibility of Multi Process of Aerobic Digestion (MPAD) for recycling of swine manure slurry as fertilizer. MPAD consisted of three kinds of difference process which are thermophilic aerobic oxidation (TAO) system, lime solidification system, and reverse osmosis (R/O) membrane system. TAO system was studied well previously for decade. The chemical composition of the lime-treated solid fertilizer was as like that organic matter 17.4%, moisture 34.1%, N 0.9%, P 1.7%, K 0.3%, Ca 12.7%, and which was expected to be useful as acid soil amendment material. The concentrated liquid material produced by R/O membrane system was also expected as a good fertilizer for crops production and soil fertility improvement.OtherShinshu University International Symposium 2010 : Sustainable Agriculture and Environment : Asian Networks II 信州大学国際シンポジウム2010 : 持続的農業と環境 : アジアネットワークII ― アジアネットワークの発展をめざして―. 信州大学農学部, 2010, 71-77conference pape

Investigation of Enhanced Polygon Wall Boundary Model in PNU-MPS Method

With regard to demonstration of fluid flow, there are two descriptions which are Eulerian description and Lagrangian description. In the field of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), a number of studies relevant to grid method based on Eulerian description have been conducted generally. However, when the grid method is employed to simulate flow field, it is inevitable to give consideration to convection term which generates severe numerical diffusion and fluctuation. To obtain the accuracy of solution, a different type of method based on Lagrangian description is come to the fore. Numerical approaches following Lagrangian description have been called meshfree or particle method. Even though particle method does not accompany convection term and fully satisfies conservation of mass, its studies have not been carried out extensively because it is difficult to implement the boundary conditions correctly due to insufficient number of particles in the vicinity of boundary. It affects directly the stability of flow field and accuracy in computation. In MPS (Moving Particle Semi-implicit) method [1], fixed-type of dummy particles are placed inside wall boundary. By placing extra particles as the wall, it seems to be not easy to satisfy the boundary condition for sharp-edged or extremely thin body configuration. In this study, the enhanced polygon wall boundary model, which was suggested originally by Mitsume et al. [2], is employed to the PNU-MPS (Pusan-National-University-modified MPS) method [3] to improve and stabilize the analysis of fluid flow with arbitrary-shaped body including sharp-edged body configuration without any additional particles. The developed simulation method, called as PNU-MPS-POLY, is adopted to the Couette flow and the lid-driven cavity flow with various corner angles. The present simulation results are validated through comparison with the analytic solutions, the experiments [4], and other simulation results [5,6]

The Effects of Gymnema sylvestre in High-Fat Diet-Induced Metabolic Disorders

    Get PDF
This study used an integrated approach to investigate the effects of Gymnema sylvestre (GS) extract as a functional dietary supplement with a high-fat diet. This approach examined insulin resistance, the dysfunction of adipose tissue, and liver steatosis. Male C57BL/6J mice were fed a normal chow or high-fat diet (HFD) for the acute and chronic study, in addition to GS in different doses (100, 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight). Their body composition changes, serum lipid and glucose parameters, adipose and liver tissue histology, and gene expression were measured. It was found that GS significantly suppressed the increase of body weight, serum levels of lipid, insulin and leptin, and adipose tissue, and liver inflammation. GS also demonstrated hypoglycemic effects due to the amylase inhibition activity. Our results support the existence of a relationship between the HFD induced insulin resistance, adipose dysfunction and liver steatosis. In conclusion, GS works as a functional dietary supplement with preventative effects against metabolic disorder.

Spontaneous Anterior Lens Capsular Dehiscence Causing Lens Particle Glaucoma

To report acute onset lens particle glaucoma associated with a spontaneous anterior capsular dehiscence. A 66-year-old man presented with spontaneous anterior lens capsule dehiscence with an acute onset of right eye pain that was associated with white particles in the anterior chamber angle and intraocular pressure (IOP) of 55 mmHg. No trauma or other inflammatory antecedents were reported. A hypermature cataract was observed at slit lamp exam. After medical treatment without IOP control, we performed extracapsular cataract extraction and anterior vitrectomy. Anterior chamber aspirate confirmed the presence of macrophages. The postoperative IOP at one month was 16 mmHg OD without medication. Spontaneous dehiscence of the anterior lens capsule in a patient with a hypermature cataract may release lens cortical material, resulting in lens particle glaucoma. Prompt surgical removal of the lens material usually controls the high IOP, and the need for additional glaucoma surgery is not common

Complete Atrioventricular Block in Adult Sjögren's Syndrome with Anti-Ro Autoantibody

Anti-Ro autoantibody is associated with Sjögren's syndrome (SS), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and neonatal lupus syndrome (i.e., congenital complete heart block in newborns). Generally, the adult atrioventricular (AV) node is believed to be relatively resistant to the scarring effects of anti-Ro/anti-La autoantibodies. However, there have been some reports of adult complete AV block in SS and SLE patients. Here, we report a case of complete heart block in primary SS with anti-Ro autoantibodies, with no other risk factor for the development of heart block, and review their etiological association

Anomalous Origin of the Left Circumflex Coronary Artery From the First Diagonal Branch Presented as Acute Myocardial Infarction

    Get PDF
Coronary artery anomalies are diagnosed in 0.6 to 1.5% of patients who undergo coronary angiography (CAG). They may present with life threatening conditions but are generally asymptomatic. Recognition and adequate visualization of the anomaly is essential for correct management of the condition. However, in some cases the exact orifice and course of an anomalous coronary vessel cannot be selectively identified by CAG. In this report, a 54-year-old man was admitted to the hospital with acute inferior myocardial infarction and had an anomalous origin of the left circumflex coronary artery (LCX) from the first diagonal branch (D1). In CAG, the right CAG showed no significant stenosis and fortunately we found an anomalous origin of the LCX from the D1. The course of LCX was precisely established by 64-slice multi-detector computed tomography

Improvement of Biological Effects of Root-Filling Materials for Primary Teeth by Incorporating Sodium Iodide

Therapeutic iodoform (CHI3) is commonly used as a root-filling material for primary teeth; however, the side effects of iodoform-containing materials, including early root resorption, have been reported. To overcome this problem, a water-soluble iodide (NaI)-incorporated root-filling material was developed. Calcium hydroxide, silicone oil, and NaI were incorporated in different weight proportions (30:30:X), and the resulting material was denoted DX (D5~D30), indicating the NaI content. As a control, iodoform instead of NaI was incorporated at a ratio of 30:30:30, and the material was denoted I30. The physicochemical (flow, film thickness, radiopacity, viscosity, water absorption, solubility, and ion releases) and biological (cytotoxicity, TRAP, ARS, and analysis of osteoclastic markers) properties were determined. The amount of iodine, sodium, and calcium ion releases and the pH were higher in D30 than I30, and the highest level of unknown extracted molecules was detected in I30. In the cell viability test, all groups except 100% D30 showed no cytotoxicity. In the 50% nontoxic extract, D30 showed decreased osteoclast formation compared with I30. In summary, NaI-incorporated materials showed adequate physicochemical properties and low osteoclast formation compared to their iodoform-counterpart. Thus, NaI-incorporated materials may be used as a substitute for iodoform-counterparts in root-filling materials after further (pre)clinical investigation

    ATAD5 suppresses centrosome over-duplication by regulating UAF1 and ID1

Centrosomes are the primary microtubule-organizing centers that are important for mitotic spindle assembly. Centrosome amplification is commonly observed in human cancer cells and contributes to genomic instability. However, it is not clear how centrosome duplication is dysregulated in cancer cells. Here, we report that ATAD5, a replisome protein that unloads PCNA from chromatin as a replication factor C-like complex (RLC), plays an important role in regulating centrosome duplication. ATAD5 is present at the centrosome, specifically at the base of the mother and daughter centrioles that undergo duplication. UAF1, which interacts with ATAD5 and regulates PCNA deubiquitination as a complex with ubiquitin-specific protease 1, is also localized at the centrosome. Depletion of ATAD5 or UAF1 increases cells with over-duplicated centrosome whereas ATAD5 overexpression reduces such cells. Consistently, the proportion of cells showing the multipolar mode of chromosome segregation is increased among ATAD5-depleted cells. The localization and function of ATAD5 at the centrosomes do not require other RLC subunits. UAF1 interacts and co-localizes with ID1, a protein that increases centrosome amplification upon overexpression. ATAD5 depletion reduces interactions between UAF1 and ID1 and increases ID1 signal at the centrosome, providing a mechanistic framework for understanding the role of ATAD5 in centrosome duplication

By adding Tat peptide to EL (0.16 w/w%), EL/T were formulated. The in vitro skin permeation of HST was examined using a Franz diffusion cell mounted with depilated mouse skin. Lesions for atopic dermatitis (AD) were induced by a topical application of diphenylcyclopropenone to NC/Nga mice. Therapeutic improvements of AD were evaluated by clinical skin severity scores. Immunological analyses on inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase-2 levels in the skin and interleukin (IL)-4, IL-13, immunoglobulin E, and eosinophil levels in the blood were also performed. Results: EL systems were superior to conventional cream, revealing greater flux values in a permeation study. The addition of Tat peptide further increased the skin permeation of HST. In an efficacy study with AD-induced NC/Nga mice, an HST-containing EL/T formulation brought a significant improvement in both skin severity score and immune-related responses for the levels of nitric oxide synthase, cyclooxygenase-2, IL-4, IL-13, immunoglobulin E, and eosinophils. Conclusion: A novel EL/T formulation was successfully developed for topical delivery of HST to treat AD.Keywords: hirsutenone, elastic liposomes, atopic dermatitis, NC/Nga mice, Tat peptid
