Well-posedness of strong solutions for the Vlasov equation coupled to non-Newtonian fluids in dimension three

We consider the Cauchy problem for coupled system of Vlasov and non-Newtonian fluid equations. We establish local well--posedness of the strong solutions, provided that the initial data are regular enough. Global existence of unique strong solutions for any given time interval is shown as well if the initial data are sufficiently small.Comment: 29 page

Removal of Pb and Cu ions from aqueous solution by Mn3O4-coated activated carbon

    Get PDF
Mn3O4-coated activated carbon (Mn3O4/AC) was prepared by supercritical technique and applied for the removal of Pb and Cu ions from aqueous solution. Kinetic and isotherm data of the adsorption by Mn3O4/AC were compared with those of activated carbon (AC) and pure Mn3O4. Adsorption of metals was adequately described by pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir isotherm models. Maximum adsorption capacities of Pb and Cu ions determined by Langmuir model were enhanced 2.2 and 6.1 times for Pb and Cu ions by Mn3O4 coating onto AC, which might be attributed to reduced resistance of intraparticle diffusion and enhanced surface electrostatic interaction and complexation by Mn3O4

    Q-convergence with interquartile ranges

    Get PDF
We introduce a new convergence concept "Q-convergence" which defines convergence in national incomes as a shrinking interquartile range (TQR) of the national income distribution. Compared with the other convergence definitions in the literature, Q-convergence has advantages of taking into account clustering as well as dispersion of the income distribution; also, IQR is insensitive to outliers and equivariant to log-transformation, leading to robust statistical inference and easier reconciliation of the empirical findings using level and log data. A panel data is analyzed to find that the absolute income gap between the poor and rich countries has increased in terms of IQR, but the widening gap is rather small and insignificant when compared with the income increase of the poor countries.Includes bibliographic reference
