    Theoretical background: Employee development is particularly important in the context of ongoing internal changes and the external environment.Purpose of the article: The understanding of what the professional development of employees in an organization is, what instruments support professional development and what challenges for the development of employees of enterprise economy 4.0 brings for the SME sector.Research methods: The article uses a quantitative approach. The survey was conducted on a sample of 101 firms from Poland. Data were collected through a questionnaire.Main findings: In the surveyed enterprises, predominates a typical approach to the issue of professional development of employees and there is no need for a radical departure from classic solutions in favor of using other (innovative) instruments of professional development.Theoretical background: Employee development is particularly important in the context of ongoing internal changes and the external environment.Purpose of the article: The understanding of what the professional development of employees in an organization is, what instruments support professional development and what challenges for the development of employees of enterprise economy 4.0 brings for the SME sector.Research methods: The article uses a quantitative approach.     Let B(X)\mathfrak{B}(X) denote the family of all nonempty closed bounded subsets of a real Banach space XX, endowed with the Hausdorff metric. For E,FB(X)E, F \in \mathfrak{B}(X) we set λEF=inf{zx:xE,zF}\lambda_{EF} = \inf \{\|z - x\| : x \in E, z \in F \}. Let D\mathfrak{D} denote the closure (under the maximum distance) of the set of all (E,F)B(X)×B(X)(E, F) \in \mathfrak{B}(X) \times \mathfrak{B}(X) such that λEF>0\lambda_{EF} \gt 0. It is proved that the set of all (E,F)D(E, F) \in \mathfrak{D} for which the minimization problem minxE,zFxz\min_{x \in E, z\in F}\|x - z\| fails to be well posed in a σ\sigma-porous subset of D\mathfrak{D}

    CZYNNIKI INNOWACYJNOŚCI W PROCESACH PERSONALNYCH NA PODSTAWIE PRZEPROWADZONYCH BADAŃ

    : The publication presents innovation factors in personnel processes in the context of own research. The structure of the article contains the theoretical part developed on the basis of selected literature on the subject, while the empirical part presents the results of empirical research carried out in 2017 by the use  a questionnaire. The results of this research have proved that the innovation in personnel processes is influenced by "soft" and "hard" factors located within the organization as well as features and attitudes of workers of personnel services towards innovative solutions introduced in personnel processes.  Publikacja przedstawia czynniki innowacyjności w procesach personalnych w kontekście przeprowadzonych badań własnych. Struktura artykułu zawiera część teoretyczną opracowaną na podstawie wyselekcjonowanej literatury przedmiotu, zaś część empiryczna pre-zentuje wyniki badań empirycznych zrealizowanych w 2017 roku przy zastosowaniu kwes-tionariusza ankiety. Wyniki tych badań dowiodły, iż na innowacyjność w procesach personalnych wpływ mają „miękkie” i „twarde” czynniki zlokalizowane wewnątrz organizacji oraz cechy i po-stawy pracowników służb personalnych wobec innowacyjnych rozwiązań wprowadzanych w procesy personalne

    Fresh Fruits, Vegetables, and Mushrooms as Transmission Vehicles for \u3ci\u3eEchinococcus multilocularis\u3c/i\u3e in Highly Endemic Areas of Poland: Reply to Concerns

    Get PDF
    Echinococcus multilocularis is a tapeworm that may cause alveolar echinococcosis (AE), one of the most dangerous parasitic zoonoses. As in the case of other foodborne diseases, unwashed fruits and vegetables, contaminated with dispersed forms of E. multilocularis, may serve as an important transmission route for this parasite. In this article, we reply to the incorrect interpretation of results of our study concerning the detection of E. multilocularis DNA in fresh fruit, vegetable and mushroom samples collected from the highly endemic areas of the Warmia-Masuria Province, Poland, to dispel any doubts. The accusations formulated by the commentators concerning our paper are unfounded; moreover, these commentators demand information which was beyond the purview of our study. Making generalisations and drawing far-reaching conclusions from our work is also unjustified. The majority of positive samples were found in only a few hyperendemic communities; this information corresponds with the highest number of both infected foxes and AE cases in humans recorded in this area. Our findings indicate that E. multilocularis is present in the environment and may create a potential risk for the inhabitants. These people should simply be informed to wash fruits and vegetables before eating. No additional far-reaching conclusions should be drawn from our data. We believe these commentators needlessly misinterpreted our results and disseminated misleading information. Nevertheless, we would like to encourage any readers simply to contact us if any aspects of our study are unclear

    The aim of the publication is to present professional work as an important source of employees’ education and learning in the workplace, on the example of a selected enterprise operating in the construction industry. The study has both a theoretical and an empirical character. The first part discusses the issues of defining professional work, its importance for a man, and related learning. The second part shows the practices in the field of informal employees’education applied to participants in the work process and their approach to learning in the selected enterprise. The publication uses two methods: literature analysis and case study. The considerations contained in the study may be helpful in understanding the importance and role of nonformal education of employees of enterprises and assessing practices in this area.The aim of the publication is to present professional work as an important source of employees’ education and learning in the workplace, on the example of a selected enterprise operating in the construction industry. Protein Kinase C Epsilon (PKCε) involvement in Nicotine Addiction

    Get PDF
    Alcohol and nicotine addiction are often co-morbid with no single drug currently available to treat both conditions. Protein kinase C epsilon (PKCε) is known to act upon the neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs), which are involved in the mechanisms of alcohol and nicotine addiction. All current approved therapies for nicotine addiction target the nAChRs. Previous studies have shown that male mice with a genetic deletion of the PKCε gene (knockout mice) have reduced nicotine consumption compared to wild-types. The consumption of nicotine in female mice has not yet been tested. In this study, we evaluated nicotine consumption of in PKCε knockout and wild-type female mice using a voluntary oral consumption procedure. Our voluntary oral consumption method is a better representation of human consumption compared to investigator- administered nicotine. Mice underwent a two-bottle choice experiment with access to nicotine in 2% saccharin solution and a 2% saccharin solution for four weeks. The concentration of nicotine did not change over the four weeks. We found there was a genotype difference when compared with the previous results in males. Female PKCε knock-out mice consumed more nicotine compared with wild-type mice in the first week. Thereafter, female PKCε knock-out mice had similar nicotine consumption compared with wild-type mice. Our results indicate that a sex by genotype difference exists in the contribution of PKCε to nicotine consumption. These experimental results contribute further knowledge of the role of PKCε in nicotine consumption and may play a role in future development of treatment options for nicotine addiction.This research was supported by the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)

    On the Hausdorff dimension of invariant measures of weakly contracting on average measurable IFS

    Full text link
    We consider measures which are invariant under a measurable iterated function system with positive, place-dependent probabilities in a separable metric space. We provide an upper bound of the Hausdorff dimension of such a measure if it is ergodic. We also prove that it is ergodic iff the related skew product is.Comment: 16 pages; to appear in Journal of Stat. Phy
