Kollaborációs-közösségi médiaelmélet. Participáció és közösségi együttműködés a késő-modern médiakörnyezetben = Collaborative - social media theory. Collaboration and participation in the late modern media environment

Munkám a médiakutatás és a médiaelmélet eszköztárának segítségével kíván teljes és átfogó leírást adni a késő-modern médiakörnyezet (kmm) meghatározó jelenségeiről. Középpontjában, hipotézisemmel összhangban a kmm online színterein megvalósuló közösségi együttműködés és participáció vizsgálata áll. Disszertációm annyiban jelent kontribúciót a téma korábbi szakirodalmához, hogy attól eltérően a kmm online közösségi médiumait funkcionális szempontból, kollaboratív, azaz együttműködésen alapuló közösségi színterekként vizsgálja. A kutatás eredményeit felhasználva pedig megkísérli felállítani egy kollaboratív-közösségi médiaelmélet alapjait, amelyhez a kommunikáció rituális modelljének (Carey 1989/1992), a használat-kielégülés modelljének (Katz et al. 1974/2007) és a kommunikáció participációs elméletének (Horányi 2009) kiindulópontjait alkalmazza

Influences and echoes of Indonesia in Timor-Leste

This paper presents four case studies that highlight how Indonesia and Timor-Leste remain intricately entwined at the social, political, cultural and personal levels. Abstract Since 1999, when a United Nations (UN) transitional administration was established in the wake of the East Timorese vote for independence from Indonesia, the case of Timor-Leste has been a relative mainstay in research and policy debates on post-conflict reconstruction. Timor- Leste is often characterised by scholars as a ‘postconflict’ country and, as a consequence, compared to other countries that have recently emerged from political strife. While this focus is understandable, it has also meant that surprisingly little scholarly attention has focused on the connections, points of similarity and interrelations between Timor- Leste and its near neighbour and former occupier Indonesia. Only recently have researchers begun to explore the multiple dimensions of Timor-Leste/ Indonesian relations and unpack the relationship across a range of disciplines

A Study of Employment Opportunities for Myanmar Graduates of Assumption University with Special Reference to Myanmar’s Labor Market

    Get PDF
In the past, the vast majority of Assumption University’s (AU) Myanmar graduates have tried to achieve better employment and higher socio-economic positions in other countries. English proficiency is a strength for AU graduates to obtain proper jobs, not only in Myanmar but also in other countries. Significant political reforms and economic developments in Myanmar have emerged since 2010. As a result, more employment opportunities have induced more AU graduates to work in their home country. On the other hand, these graduates have encountered many challenges in Myanmar’s working environment. Nevertheless, some graduates have achieved high positions with attractive remuneration in multinational or local enterprises while some returnees are running their own businesses successfully

Statistical Function Tagging and Grammatical Relations of Myanmar Sentences

    Get PDF
This paper describes a context free grammar (CFG) based grammatical relations for Myanmar sentences which combine corpus-based function tagging system. Part of the challenge of statistical function tagging for Myanmar sentences comes from the fact that Myanmar has free-phrase-order and a complex morphological system. Function tagging is a pre-processing step to show grammatical relations of Myanmar sentences. In the task of function tagging, which tags the function of Myanmar sentences with correct segmentation, POS (part-of-speech) tagging and chunking information, we use Naive Bayesian theory to disambiguate the possible function tags of a word. We apply context free grammar (CFG) to find out the grammatical relations of the function tags. We also create a functional annotated tagged corpus for Myanmar and propose the grammar rules for Myanmar sentences. Experiments show that our analysis achieves a good result with simple sentences and complex sentences.Comment: 16 pages, 7 figures, 8 tables, AIAA-2011 (India). arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:0912.1820 by other author

Mobility, Identity and Contributions of Skilled Burmese Migrant Workers: An Exploratory Study in Bangkok

The steady stream of skilled Burmese migrants flowing into Thailand started after the 1988 uprising. The first generation migrated to Thailand for better employment; and the second generation came along with their parents or came independently for better education and then became skilled workers. The majority of them have now (in the 2000s) attained at least Master’s degrees and work in teaching institutions, engineering industries, and IT (Information Technology) companies. Many well-experienced Burmese professionals have played an important role in the development of the international programs of private educational institutions in Bangkok during the 1990s. Although they have been contributing towards the Thai society and economy for more than a decade or so, they are not willing to make the effort of integration into Thai society. The largest portion of their earnings flowed into the economy of Thailand because of an inefficient banking system, economic instability, and the unpredictable political situation in Burma which led to irregular or limited remittances for investment in Burmese businesses. However, the 2010 by-election and unprecedented developments in politics and the economy in Burma have started to change the future plan of Burmese skilled migrants

Determinants of Female Labour Force Participation in Burma: An Empirical Analysis of Socio-Economic Survey Data

    Get PDF
This paper seeks to identify the major determinants of female labour force participation (LFP) in the urban area and to examine how these determinants associate with female LFP. The data from the socio-economic survey of urban women undertaken in Rangoon, Burma, during May to July 1998, are analyzed by the logistic regression model. A number of potential variables for inclusion in the logistic regression are identified on the basis of results of the chi-squared tests and also on the basis of theoretical models which explain female participation in the labour force. The results suggest that husband’s income and marital status are important factors while educational attainment does not significantly affect (less significant for unmarried women than for married women) Burmese urban women entering into the labour force

Harm reduction and animal welfare in the use of pet facilitated therapy (PFT) from one health perspective

    Get PDF
“One Health” approach includes policies and programmes which aims to improve public health and consider the overall welfare of animal, human and environment. Pet facilitated therapy (PFT) comprises the use of animals as part of complementary and alternative therapy. Thus, the concept of “One Health” should be reflected in PFT in order to achieve the wellbeing of humans, animals, and environment. While the use of animals for human wellbeing, the risks involved from the animal and their welfare should be considered. Thus, this paper aims to explore the harm reductions, and animal welfare in the use of PFT from one health approach. Analytical literature review was used as a methodology for this study and the findings are categorized into four themes such as (i) the types of animal used in PFT, (ii) the potential benefits of PFT for human wellbeing (iii) environmental concern and harm reduction, and (iv) animal welfare in PFT. It is observed that dogs are used as the majority pet in PFT, and other different species such as cat, dolphin, horse, donkey, farm animals, bird, exotic and aquatic animals are also used. The potential benefits of PFT have been highlighted in people with disabilities, physical, mental and neurological disorders, elderly with dementia and Alzheimer, and children with special needs, and juvenile adolescents. Under environmental concern and risk reduction in PFT, the possible zoonoses are identified and presented. Animal welfare is considered to have mutual benefits for both parties involved in PFT. This paper serves as a source of public awareness on PFT and recommended to use it in the area of pediatric, palliative, juvenile and geriatric care in addition to conventional treatment after carefully removing or reducing its limitation
