    A MULTIMODAL ANALYSIS IN PANTENE ADVERTISEMENTS

    This study aims to investigate how Pantene Indonesian and International ads verbally and visually represent the image of women with beautiful strong hair and the ads’ differences by means of Halliday’s transitivity system (2014) and Kress and van Leeuwen’s (2006) point of view. This study also focuses on what the differences signify. The study analyzes eight Pantene’s advertisements, which consist of four Indonesian and International ads respectively. The data taken for this study are the Pantene Indonesian and International ads, focusing on the ads that show their brand ambassadors. The results of this study show that Pantene Indonesian ads describe women with strong hair as something that is coveted by women in Indonesia. Similarly, in Pantene International ads, the figure of a woman with strong and beautiful hair is described as a beautiful woman. In the Pantene Indonesian advertisement, it can be seen that ads makers use the implicit persuasive method, whereas in the International Pantene, the method is explicit declarative employed which can be seen by viewers directly. These differences verify the stereotypes attached to Indonesian and International market, namely being communal and individual, respectively

    Improving the Spacer-Concrete Interface for Bond Strength and Durability

    Spacers are important devices in reinforced concrete that are used to support reinforcing steel during concreting in order to achieve the required concrete cover. They are placed at every meter length or less of steel reinforcement and left permanently in the structure. However, it has been shown that the weak interface between spacer and concrete is highly porous and microcracked. This lowers the resistance of the concrete cover to ingress of aggressive agents causing degradation. This study aims to address this problem by improving spacer design to enhance bond strength and durability of the spacer-concrete interface. Cementitious spacers with a range of surface textures were produced prior to casting into concrete. Samples were prepared with CEM I Portland cement at a water/cement (w/c) ratio of 0.4 and cured for 3, 7, and 28 days in a fog room and then conditioned at 50°C to equilibrium moisture content. The spacer-concrete interface was then tested for tensile bond strength and mass transport properties including oxygen diffusivity, oxygen permeability, water absorption and electrical conductivity. The results were compared against control samples made of either the entire cementitious spacer or concrete. The measured surface properties were then correlated to the measured bond strength and transport properties to establish the effects of surface texture on the spacer-concrete interface

    Stress and Strain Behavior of Confined Lightweight Concrete using Sand Coated Polypropylene Coarse Aggregate

    Plastic waste greatly contributes to environmental pollution; therefore, using plastic waste in various applications, such as in concrete, is an important waste reduction strategy which could be contributed by the construction industry. This study presents the development of a concrete stress and strain model under compression for confined concrete specimens using polypropylene plastic as a substitution for coarse aggregate. Various short-column specimens were analyzed for stress and strain characteristics, effect of steel confinement, and compressive performance. Steel confinement increased the compressive strength and ductility of the section. The parametric identification of a stress-strain model defined for normal concrete was used in the experimental results to obtain new parameter values for the confinement coefficients k1  that are suitable for cylindrical and square lightweight concrete sections. The stress-strain diagrams for lightweight concrete of experimental cylinder and square column specimens, compared with the stress-strain modeled by the modified coefficients, indicate a fairly close agreement

    Keefektifan Teknik Model Simbolis untuk Mengembangkan Konsep Diri Peserta Didik SMP

    The purpose of this research was to experiment the effectiveness of behavioral counseling using symbolic model technique to develop students self concept in junior high school students. The research method in this study was experiment. The research plan used quasi experimental design with nonequivalent control group design. The subject of this research were sixteen students from grade VII Junior High School who was divided into two groups, those were experiment group and control group. The technique of collecting data was instrumental questionnaire, observation oriented, and interview oriented. The technique of analysis data was using Mann Whitney Test by SPSS 20.0 and to support the hypothesis test, will be done a clinical analysis. The results of the study showed that the results of the Mann Whitney test known coefficient p (Exact. Sig) = 0.021 <0.05, so that Ha accepted and Ho rejected. From the explanation above, it could be concluded that behavioral counseling using symbolic model technique was effective to develop students’ self-concept.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji keefektifan konseling behavioral dengan teknik model simbolis untuk mengembangkan konsep diri peserta didik kelas SMP. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah eksperimen. Rancangan penelitian menggunakan eksperimental semu (quasi experimental design) dengan jenis rancangan nonequivalent control group design. Subjek Penelitian adalah peserta didik kelas SMP yang berjumlah enam belas anak yang dibagi menjadi dua kelompok, yaitu kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol.  Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan instrumen angket, pedoman observasi, dan pedoman wawancara. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah Uji Mann Whitney dan untuk mendukung hasil pengujian hipotesis, akan dilakukan analisis klinis. Hasil uji Mann Whitney diketahui bahwa koefesien p (Exact.Sig) = 0,021 < 0,05, sehingga Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak. Simpulan penelitian ini adalah konseling behavioral dengan teknik model simbolis efektif untuk mengembangkan konsep diri peserta didik SMP

    The aim of this research was to know the effectiveness of group counseling by selftalk technique to improve the social adjustment of boarding high school students. This research was an experimental research by using pre-experimental method with the plan one group pretest posttest design. The subjects of this research were 14 students who had low score of their pretest. The data analysis in this research was using Wilcoxon test. Based on the result of hypothesis test, it could be known that there were a rise score between before and after giving the treatment. The result of the data analysis by using Wilcoxon was indicate p value=0.001 (0.001< 0.05), it means that Ha was received. Conclusion of this research was selftalk technique effective to improve the social adjustment of biarding high school students

    Keefektifan Permainan Scrabble untuk Meningkatkan Kreativitas Peserta Didik SMP

    The purpose of this research was to examine the effectiveness of group guidance with scrabble games to improve creativity junior high school students. This research used quasi experiment design. The subjects of 62 students that divided into experimental group and control group that depended on matching technique. The data about creative quotient (CQ) score collected using a test named “Tes Kreativitas Verbal” (TKV). The result of independent sample t-test testing for posttest data in experiment group and control group showed that p value=0.000, it means that there was significant difference on posttest’s result between experiment group and control group. The result of paired sample t-test testing for pretest posttest data in experiment group showed p value=0.000, it means that there was significant difference on pretest posttest’s result in experiment group between pretest score and posttest score of experimental group after given group guidance with scrabble games as a treatment. Conclusions from this research was group guidance with scrabble games effective to improve creativity of junior high school students
