Hypertension remains the most readily identifiable and reversible risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and is the leading cause of death worldwide. Despite the avalanche of medications for the management of elevated blood pressure, adequate control of systemic hypertension has largely remained enigmatic. Previous studies from African countries including Nigeria have shown that blood pressure (BP) control still remained poor. The objective of this study therefore was to determine the level of blood pressure control among hypertensive patients on treatment and identify associated factors Methodology: The study was an observational, cross-sectional study of consecutive hypertensive patients attending the general outpatient, cardiac, endocrine and renal clinics at the Federal Medical Centre Nguru, in northeastern Nigeria; conducted over a period of six months from June 2016 to December 2016. Result: A total of two hundred and ninety-one (291) consecutive subjects, comprising 134(46.1%) males and 157(53.9%) females were recruited. The mean age of the study population was 56.15±12.72. There was no difference in the mean age of subjects with controlled and uncontrolled hypertension 57.13±12.97 and 55.48±12.54 respectively with P = 0.275. One hundred and nineteen (40.9%) subjects had controlled hypertension while the remaining 172(59.1%) had uncontrolled hypertension. There was a significant difference in the mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure of subjects with controlled and uncontrolled hypertension (116.22± 12.14 and 153.14±18.17) P = 0.001 and (73.78±8.02 and 89.53±11.12) P = 0.001 respectively. The predominant pattern of uncontrolled hypertension among the study population was combined systolic and diastolic hypertension. Conclusion: Our study revealed that blood pressure control among hypertensive on medication was not optimal, decreased glomerular filtration rate, low anti-hypertensive medication adherence and use of NSAID were found to be responsible for the inadequate blood pressure control observed in this study. Poverty and ignorance were major contributing factors for low medication adherence

This study presents a method to enable the visually impaired Muslim to learn and read the Al-Quran using Braille Display with software help. The system reads the database which contains all verses of Al-Quran and user will need to select the verse and ayah to read. Besides that, this system can be used in a class to teach visually impaired students to learn Al-Quran. Every word or character typed by the instructor in the main Braille Panel will be transmitted to the sub Braille Panel that is connected to the main Braille Panel. The selected verse of Al-Quran and ayah will also generate an index before being transmitted to the Braille Panel. The index will be transmitted to the Braille Display for people to touch and read the display. A user friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI) will be used to fulfill the ergonomics for the visually impaired user's physical capabilities. Several approaches are used to design and implement the interface for the visually impaired like speech or sound output and Braille display. The Braille codes can be displayed using the Braille panel. The design interface and structure of the system for the visually impaired users in learning Al-Quran is presented

The substrate between the patch and ground plane of microstrip antenna plays an important role in antenna design as it dictates the linear characteristics performances of the antenna. This work focusses on the comparison between three UWB antennas fabricated on different substrate materials which are Rogers Duroid RO3003™ with a dielectric constant, ?r of 3, loss tangent, tan ? of 0.010 and thickness, h of 1.52 mm; denim substrate with ?r of 1.7, tan ? of 0.07 and h of 0.7 mm; and felt substrate with ?r of 1.3, tan ? of 0.02 and h of 1.1 mm. From the comparison, felt substrate offers a good antenna’s performance in terms of frequency range, bandwidth, gain and efficiency followed by Rogers Duroid RO3003™ and denim substrates. The simulation results show that the frequency range of the UWB antenna with felt substrate is from 2.31 GHz to 11.74 GHz with a bandwidth of 9.43 GHz; gain, G of 5.489 dBi; and efficiency, ? (%) of 91 %. The UWB antenna fabricated on RO3003™ has a frequency range from 2.94 GHz to 12.25 GHz with a bandwidth of 9.28 GHz, gain of 5.323 dBi and efficiency of 90%. Lastly, the antenna with denim substrate observed a frequency range from 2.67 GHz to 9.99 GHz with a bandwidth of 7.23 GHz, gain of 5.198 dBi and efficiency of 81.68%. The bending investigation are performed for each UWB antenna with different diameters (d = 50 mm, 80 mm and 100 mm) of vacuum cylinder in CST MWS® software and PVC pipes during measurement. It can be concluded from the simulated and measurement results that the performance of the antennas are not affected under bending condition and suitable to be worn on body for wearable applications

Melioidosis usually results in chronic debilities that reduce the productivity of animals and condemnation of carcasses in abattoir. Melioidosis is reemerging among animals and humans, and anecdotal reports suggest an increase in disease observation. This study described the seroprevalence of melioidosis in livestock based on the data obtained from the Department of Veterinary Services, Putrajaya and the Veterinary Research Institute, Ipoh. The data were summarized according to animal species, state, and year. The seroprevalence rate in animals was 7.6, 48.2, 2.6, 13.6 and 3.6% in cattle, buffaloes, goats, sheep and pigs respectively. The seroprevalence of the disease varies in different states of the federation. For all species, the seroprevalence vary between 2.6% and 48.2%. The seroprevalence over the years increased from 4.2% in 2000 to 12.0% in 2003 after which it varies between the period 2004- 2007 and apparently declined between 2007 and 2009
