    Haldane Exclusion Statistics and the Boltzmann Equation

    We generalize the collision term in the one-dimensional Boltzmann-Nordheim transport equation for quasiparticles that obey the Haldane exclusion statistics. For the equilibrium situation, this leads to the ``golden rule'' factor for quantum transitions. As an application of this, we calculate the density response function of a one-dimensional electron gas in a periodic potential, assuming that the particle-hole excitations are quasiparticles obeying the new statistics. We also calculate the relaxation time of a nuclear spin in a metal using the modified golden rule.Comment: version accepted for publication in J. of Stat. Phy

    Three dimensional flow field inside compressor rotor, including blade boundary layers

    The flow in a turbomachinery blade passage has a predominant flow direction. The viscous diffusion in the streamwise direction is usually small and the elliptic influence is transmitted upstream through the pressure field. Starting with a guessed pressure field, it is possible to converge on the full elliptic solution by iterating between a parabolic solution and an iteration of the pressure field. The main steps of the calculation are given. The blade boundary layers which are three dimensional with laminar, transitional, turbulent, and separation zones are investigated.     Thomas-Fermi Method For Particles Obeying Generalized Exclusion Statistics

    We use the Thomas-Fermi method to examine the thermodynamics of particles obeying Haldane exclusion statistics. Specifically, we study Calogero-Sutherland particles placed in a given external potential in one dimension. For the case of a simple harmonic potential (constant density of states), we obtain the exact one-particle spatial density and a {\it closed} form for the equation of state at finite temperature, which are both new results. We then solve the problem of particles in a x2/3 x^{2/3} ~ potential (linear density of states) and show that Bose-Einstein condensation does not occur for any statistics other than bosons.Comment: 10 pages (TeX), 2 figures available upon reques

    A growth walk model for estimating the canonical partition function of Interacting Self Avoiding Walk

    We have explained in detail why the canonical partition function of Interacting Self Avoiding Walk (ISAW), is exactly equivalent to the configurational average of the weights associated with growth walks, such as the Interacting Growth Walk (IGW), if the average is taken over the entire genealogical tree of the walk. In this context, we have shown that it is not always possible to factor the the density of states out of the canonical partition function if the local growth rule is temperature-dependent. We have presented Monte Carlo results for IGWs on a diamond lattice in order to demonstrate that the actual set of IGW configurations available for study is temperature-dependent even though the weighted averages lead to the expected thermodynamic behavior of Interacting Self Avoiding Walk (ISAW).Comment: Revised version consisting of 12 pages (RevTeX manuscript, plus three .eps figure files); A few sentences in the second paragraph on Page 4 are rewritten so as to make the definition of the genealogical tree, ZN{\cal Z}_N, clearer.     Effective Decontamination and Regeneration Protocol for in vitro Culture of Strawberry Cv. Chandler

    Nodal segments of strawberry cv. Chandler were collected from the field and surface sterilization of the explants was carried out using various levels of decontaminants as different treatments viz. sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) 0.5% for 7, 5 and 3 min and mercuric chloride (Hg Cl2) 0.1% for 5 min, 3 min and 3 min 10 sec. The explants were excised and cultured for 3 weeks on the initiation medium supplemented with various levels of BAP (0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2mg/l) and its combination with GA (0.5 and 1mg/l). Sub culturing was done and finally rooting was initiated on the medium supplemented with various levels of IBA (0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2mg/l) for 4 weeks. The results obtained indicated that, among the decontaminants, treatment of explants with Hg Cl2 0.1% for 3 min 10 sec resulted in the minimum contamination and browning of explants. Further, maximum shoot proliferation percentage, shoots per explant and minimum number of days to shoot initiation was observed when explants were cultured on MS medium supplemented with 1.5 mg/l BAP over other concentrations of either BAP or in combination with GA. However, the maximum length of shoots was obtained in medium supplemented with 1.5 mg/l BAP + 0.5 mg/l GA. While, medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/l IBA supported highest percentage of rooting, the highest number of roots, maximum root length of microcuttings and minimum number of days to root initiation were observed in medium supplemented with 1mg/l of IBA
