    The interactions of numerous project characteristics, with particular reference to project performance, were studied. Determinants of success are identified along with the accompanying implications for client organization, parent organization, project organization, and future research. Variables are selected which are found to have the greatest impact on project outcome, and the methodology and analytic techniques to be employed in identification of those variables are discussed

    Odontoameloblastoma with extensive chondroid matrix deposition in a guinea pig

    Odontoameloblastomas (previously incorporated within ameloblastic odontomas) are matrix-producing odontogenic mixed tumors and are closely related in histologic appearance to the 2 other types of matrix-producing odontogenic mixed tumors: odontomas and ameloblastic fibro-odontomas. The presence or absence of intralesional, induced non-neoplastic tissue must be accounted for in the diagnosis. Herein we describe a naturally occurring odontoameloblastoma with extensive chondroid cementum deposition in a guinea pig (Cavia porcellus). Microscopically, the mass featured palisading neoplastic odontogenic epithelium closely apposed to ribbons and rings of a pink dental matrix (dentinoid), alongside extensive sheets and aggregates of chondroid cementum. The final diagnosis was an odontoameloblastoma given the abundance of odontogenic epithelium in association with dentinoid but a paucity of pulp ectomesenchyme. Chondroid cementum is an expected anatomical feature of cavies, and its presence within the odontoameloblastoma was interpreted as a response of the ectomesenchyme of the dental follicle to the described neoplasm. Our case illustrates the inductive capabilities of odontoameloblastomas while highlighting species-specific anatomy that has resulted in a histologic appearance unique to cavies and provides imaging and histologic data to aid diagnosis of these challenging lesions

    A geometric view of cryptographic equation solving

    This paper considers the geometric properties of the Relinearisation algorithm and of the XL algorithm used in cryptology for equation solving. We give a formal description of each algorithm in terms of projective geometry, making particular use of the Veronese variety. We establish the fundamental geometrical connection between the two algorithms and show how both algorithms can be viewed as being equivalent to the problem of finding a matrix of low rank in the linear span of a collection of matrices, a problem sometimes known as the MinRank problem. Furthermore, we generalise the XL algorithm to a geometrically invariant algorithm, which we term the GeometricXL algorithm. The GeometricXL algorithm is a technique which can solve certain equation systems that are not easily soluble by the XL algorithm or by Groebner basis methods

    Coherent phonon scattering effects on thermal transport in thin semiconductor nanowires

    The thermal conductance by phonons of a quasi-one-dimensional solid with isotope or defect scattering is studied using the Landauer formalism for thermal transport. The conductance shows a crossover from localized to Ohmic behavior, just as for electrons, but the nature of this crossover is modified by delocalization of phonons at low frequency. A scalable numerical transfer-matrix technique is developed and applied to model quasi-one-dimensional systems in order to confirm simple analytic predictions. We argue that existing thermal conductivity data on semiconductor nanowires, showing an unexpected linear dependence, can be understood through a model that combines incoherent surface scattering for short-wavelength phonons with nearly ballistic long-wavelength phonons. It is also found that even when strong phonon localization effects would be observed if defects are distributed throughout the wire, localization effects are much weaker when defects are localized at the boundary, as in current experiments.Comment: 13 page

    Fractional Exclusion Statistics for the Multicomponent Sutherland Model

    We show by microscopic calculation that thermodynamics of the multicomponent Sutherland model is equivalent to that of a free particle system with fractional exclusion statistics at all temperatures. The parameters for exclusion statistics are given by the strength of the repulsive interaction, and have both intra- and inter-species components. We also show that low temperature properties of the system are described in terms of free fractional particles without the statistical parameters for different species.     The rworkflows suite: automated continuous integration for quality checking, documentation website creation, and containerised deployment of R packages

    Reproducibility is essential to the progress of research, yet achieving it remains elusive even in computational fields. Continuous Integration (CI) platforms offer a powerful way to launch automated workflows to check and document code, but often require considerable time, effort, and technical expertise to setup. We therefore developed the rworkflows suite to make robust CI workflows easy and freely accessible to all R package developers (https://github.com/neurogenomics/rworkflows). rworkflows consists of 1) a CRAN/Bioconductor-compatible R package template, 2) an R package to quickly implement a standardised workflow, and 3) a centrally maintained GitHub Action. Each time it is triggered by a push to a GitHub repository, it automatically creates virtual machines across multiple OS, installs all dependencies, runs code checks, builds/deploys a documentation website, and builds/deploys version-controlled containers with a built-in RStudio interface. Additional analyses demonstrate that >50% of all R packages are only available via GitHub, highlighting the need for accessible solutions. Thus, rworkflows greatly reduces the barriers to implementing robust and reproducible best practices

    Five-dimensional Monopole Equation with Hedge-Hog Ansatz and Abel's Differential Equation

    We review the generalized monopole in the five-dimensional Euclidean space. A numerical solution with the Hedge-Hog ansatz is studied. The Bogomol'nyi equation becomes a second order autonomous non-linear differential equation.
