    THE PROFILE OF STUDENTS’ METACOGNITION IN LEARNING THROUGH REALISTIC MATHEMATICS EDUCATION

    This was qualitative research. The research objectives were to reveal the profile of Junior Secondary Schools students’ metacognition at Makassar within a learning through realistic mathematics education involving metacognition. The research results were as follows. Within the realistic mathematics instruction, the first step was to understand the contextual problems; the second step was to solve the contextual problems; the third step was to discuss and compare the solution of the contextual problems; and the fourth step was to conclude the solution of the contextual problems. The research results showed that: (1) Within the first step, the subject C19, C21, C27, and C29 applied their predicting, planning, and monitoring skills; the subject C25 applied their planning and monitoring skills; the subject C26 applied their planning skills. (2) Within the second step, the subject C19, C21, C25, C27, and C29 applied their declarative, procedural, and conditional knowledge, as well as their monitoring skills; the subject C26 applied his procedural and conditional knowledge. (3) Within the third step, the subject C19 applied their declarative, procedural, and conditional knowledge, as well as his monitoring skills; the subject C21 and C27 applied their evaluation skill; while the subject C25, C26, and C29 did not apply their metacognitive knowledge and skill.     Penelitian pengembangan ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan model pembelajaran matematika yang memanfaatkan sistem sosial masyarakat. Populasi penelitian adalah siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri di Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan, sedang sampel dipilih secara purposive random sampling sebanyak 12 (dua belas) kelas dari 6 kabupaten/kota. Data dianalisis melalui perpaduan deskriptif dan kualitatif. Produk yang dihasilkan berupa buku model pembelajaran dan perangkat pendukung pembelajaran, adalah rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran, buku siswa, lembar kegiatan siswa, dan tes hasil belajar. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa (1) dalam proses pengujian awal (validasi) terlihat bahwa model pembelajaran dapat dinyatakan valid ditinjau dari keseluruhan komponen; (2) secara teoretis model pembelajaran dinyatakan layak diterapkan di kelas dan secara empiris; model pembelajaran ini dinyatakan memenuhi kriteria praktis dan efektif sehingga dapat digunakan di sekolah

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan desain pembelajaran matematika dengan memanfaat- kan sistem sosial masyarakat untuk menumbuhkembangkan budaya kesatria dan integritas diri siswa SMP. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian pengembangan yang produknya diharapkan dapat memfasilitasi proses belajar mengajar matematika. Sesuai dengan tahapan pengembangan, diperoleh hasil adalah sebagai berikut. Pertama, teori yang digunakann untuk mengembangkan desain pembelajaran adalah modifikasi model pengembangan sistem instruksional pembelajaran Thiagarajan. Fase-fase pengembangan yang dilalui adalah tahap: (1) pendefinisian (define); (2) perancangan (design); dan (3) dan pengembangan (develop). Kedua, desain pembelajaran matematika yang memanfaatkan sistem sosial masyarakat (rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran, buku petunjuk guru, buku siswa, lembar kegiatan siswa, dan tes hasil belajar matematika) berkualitas baik adalah memenuhi kriteria validitas, praktisitas, dan efektivitas. Tes hasil belajar matematika dalam funginya sebagai instrumen penelitian memenuhi kriteria validitas, sensitivitas, dan reliabilitas. Validitas setiap item tes hasil belajar adalah sangat tinggi dan tinggi, sensititivitas setiap item tes memiliki kepekaan, dan reliabilitas tes sangat tinggi

    Applying SARAC Approach and The Effect in Learning Mathematics For Students Grade VIII

    This study aims to explore the application of approach in terms of see, ask, reason, associate, and communicate (SARAC) in learning mathematics. The type of research is pre-experiment with One-Group Pretest Posttest Design. The population of research is students of grade VIII in SMPN 22 Makassar. By using simple random sampling, there are 35 students who are getting involved in this experimental activities. As concerns in this study, three kinds of instruments are used to collect data, such as students’ achievement test, observation sheet, and responds sheet. For analyzing the data, two kinds of statistics were applied, namely descriptive and inferential statistics. The result shows that students’ achievement can reach the score of 77.9, satisfying the criteria of minimum completeness. Beside, this score brings students’ achievement in high category and support the percentage of classical completeness (88.57%). Then, students’ activities exhibit the category of active, and their responds toward SARAC approach indicate positive point.     DESKRIPSI KEMAMPUAN PENALARAN MATEMATIS DALAM MENYELESAIKAN SOAL CERITA DITINJAU DARI GAYA KOGNITIF DAN KEMAMPUAN AWAL SISWA

    This study is descriptive research which employs qualitative approach, aims at describingMathematics reasoning ability in solving story questions based on cognitive style and initial ability of students. The cognitive styles examined are Field Independent (FI) and Field Dependent(FD). Whereas, initial ability of students arecategorized as high and low. The research site was at MtsN 1 Makassar City with 8 students of grade VIII as the research subjects. The research subjects represented four categories, namely (1) FI with high initial ability, (2) FI with low initial ability, (3) FD with high initial ability and (4) FD with low initial ability. Data collection techniques were conducted through interview based on mathematics reasoning ability test. Theresearch instruments were Group Embedded Figure Test (GEFT), initial ability test, mathematics reasoning ability test, and interview guidance which were valid and reliable. The results of the study reveal that: (1) FI subjects with high initial ability has a good reasoning level in understanding the structure in solving mathematics problems, (2) FDsubjects with high initial ability has minor problems in understanding the structure when solving rectangular story questions but still able to arise his reasoning ability, (3 ) FI subjects with low initial ability has reasoning ability but inaccurate in conducting solution plan, and (4) FDsubjects with low initial ability has less reasoning ability so that they need guidance in solving rectangular story questions.     Students' Mathematical Connection Based on Levels of Mathematical Abilities: Qualitative Study in SLETV

    Abstract: This research aims to illustrate the way for stu-dents to apply mathematical concepts to the given problem, for example, System of Linear Equations with Two Variables (SLETV). There were three students of SMP Negeri 3 Watansoppeng getting engaged to be research subject. There were two instruments used in this research which are math ability test and mathematical connection capability test. The results of this study showed that the ability tests of mathematics, three stu-dents classified into the ability of higher, middle and lower. With problem of SLETV given, subject with a high level of mathemati-cal ability was able to connect with both the mathematical con-cept known by the given problem, compared with students who have other ability in mathematical connections. In addition, the ability of mathematical connections affects the answers given by the subject, i.e. there were the right answer and wrong answer, and no response at all

    The study is ex-post facto research which aims atdiscovering the extent of the influence of mastering celluler phone (cellphone) and laptop usage on spatial ability of Mathematics and Geometry learning achievement both direct and indirectly through spatial ability of Mathematics of undergraduate students of Mathematics Education Study Program of batch 2015-2016 in UNM (State University of Makassar). The populations of the study were 179 students the samples of 90 respondents. Samples were selected by employing proportional random sampling technique. The instrument used in this study were (1) mastering scale of cellphone and laptop usage was in mediocre category, (2) the mastering of cellphone usage was in very poor mastery category of Mathematics software overall, (3) the average of mastering of the usage was in very poor mastery category of Mathematics software overall, (4) there was positive influence directly of mastering cellphone usage on spatial ability of Mathematics of undergraduate students, and (5) there was no positive influence directly and indirectly of mastering cellphone usage on Geometry learning achievement.
