This research consisted of two stages, the first aimed to determine the best type of liquid organic fertilizer which can be used in the fertilization of tomato plants andthe second aimed to determine the best concentration of liquid organic fertilizer which can be applied to tomato plants. This research purpose was to investigate the response of tomato plant (Solanum licopersicum Mill.) as shown byitsyield and quality. This research used a Randomized Completely Block design in which seventreatmentsof different concentrations and two types of liquid organic fertilizers were applied. The treatments significantly affected the number of tomato fruits but not on their weight and diameter as well as the content of C vitamin. Best yield and quality of the tomatoes was found in the gremont liquid organic fertilizer at the concentration of 2.4 ml/80 ml water

The cost of radiology procedures using Activity Based Costing (ABC) for development of cost weights in implementation of casemix system in Malaysia

Presently there is a gross lack of information on cost and cost weights in many developing countries that implement casemix system. Furthermore, studies that employed Activity Based Costing method (ABC) to estimate the costs of radiology procedures were rarely done in developing countries, including Malaysia. The main objective of this study is to determine the costs of radiology procedures for each group in casemix system, in order to develop cost weights to be used in the implementation of the casemix system. An economic evaluation study was conducted in all units in the Department of Radiology in the first teaching hospital using the casemix system in Malaysia. From the 25,754 cases, 16,173 (62.8%) of them were from medical discipline. Low One Third and High One Third (L3H3) method was employed to trim the outlier cases. Output from the trimming, 15,387 cases were included in the study. The results revealed that the total inpatients’ charges of all the radiology procedures was RM1,820,533.00 while the cost imputed using ABC method was RM2,970,505.54. The biggest cost component were human resources in Radiology Unit (Mobile) (57.5%), consumables (78.5%) of Endovascular Interventional Radiology (EIR) Unit, equipment (81.4%) of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Unit, reagents (68.1%) of Medical Nuclear Unit. The one highest radiology cost weight, was for Malaysia Diagnosis Related Group (MY-DRG®) B-4-11-II (Hepatobiliary and Pancreas Neoplasms with severity level II, 2.8301). The method of calculation of the cost of procedures need to be revised by the hospital as findings from this study showed that the cost imposed to patient is lower than the actual cost

Modeling and optimization of surface roughness and vibration amplitude in heat assisted end milling of SKD 11 tool steel using ball nose tool

Tool steel - SKD 11 is frequently used in industries for making dies and molds. This grade is chosen for its toughness, strength, and hardness maintained up to high temperature. However, the same properties make the steel extremely difficult and expensive to machine using conventional approaches. Heat assisted machining has been found wide spread application in recent years to improve machinability of difficult-to-cut materials. This research paper presents the outcome of an investigation on heat assisted end milling of SKD 11 conducted on a vertical machining center using ball nose coated carbide inserts. The Design of Experiments (DoE) was done using the Response Surface Methodology, in order to develop empirical mathematical models of surface roughness and vibration in terms of cutting speed, feed, axial depth of cut, and heating temperature. The models were checked for significance using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). 3-D response surface graphs of the interactions of primary cutting parameters with the responses were plotted. Optimization was then performed by using the desirability function approach. From the graphs and optimized results it was concluded that the primary input parameters could be controlled in order to reduce vibration amplitude and produce semi-finished machined surfaces applying induction heat assisted technique

Random amplification polymorphic DNA-PCR (RAPD) analysis of Vib rio algin oly tic u s strains isolated from green mussels ( Perna viridis ) in Marudu Bay, Sabah

Vibrio alginolyticus infection is common in aquatic species. The species has been isolated from infected green mussels (Perna viridis) cultivated at Marudu Bay, Sabah. The infection of V. alginolyticus was prevalent since 2009 and caused more than 60% mortality of the mollusc. This study was conducted on V. alginolyticus isolated from clinically infected P. viridis at cultivation area in Marudu Bay from 2013. Twenty isolates were randomly selected and subjected to RAPD-PCR analysis using 20 sets of RAPD primers. Results showed that the most suitable primers were OPA 3, OPA 5, OPA 9, OPA 10 and OPA 12 where the significant bands ranging from 100-2500 bp. Genetic variability among the isolates as revealed by these primers indicated that RAPD-PCR method has good discriminative ability and can be used as a rapid typing method of differentiating V. alginolyticus strains isolated from infected green mussels for epidemiological investigation

Application of Integrated AHP-TOPSIS Method in Hybrid Natural Fiber Composites Materials Selection for Automotive Parking Brake Lever Component

Hybrid natural fiber composites made from the combination of natural fiber and synthetic fiber offers the performance solution while in the same time able to provide further balance between cost and sustainability requirements for automotive structural application. Despite such advantages, the task of designing such hybrid composites during materials selection process such as for matrix materials selection are very challenging considering the involvement of multiple conflicting requirements with varying attributes which are needed to be complied simultaneously by the candidate material. In this paper, multi-criteria decision making technique (MCDM) through the integration of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method were applied in the materials selection of thermoplastic matrix for hybrid natural fiber composites formulation towards the design of automotive parking brake lever component. Based on literature review, four major types of automotive thermoplastic materials used for passenger car were selected as the materials candidate namely high density polyethylene, low density polyethylene, polypropylene and nylon 6. Moreover, four (4) main design criteria and ten (10) sub-criteria were applied in the selection process based on the product design specifications. The AHP method was first utilized to analyze the weightage of each criteria with respect to the goal and TOPSIS method was later applied to determine the best solution among the thermoplastic material candidates. The overall score shows that polypropylene is the most suitable thermoplastic matrix material for the hybrid natural fiber composites formulation for the intended application. The integrated AHP-TOPSIS method was also found able to provide systematic comparison and selection method to composites designers especially for automotive product development purposes involving hybrid natural fiber composites
