Caractérisation physico-chimique des sédiments marins du littoral de Tanger et perspectives de valorisation
The experimental study was conducted on marine sediments from the coast of Tangier for a physical and chemical characteristic. The first phase of the performed work was to determine the physical and chemical characteristics. The objective is to achieve a thorough understanding of the medium (containing metal species, organic matter content, grain size, etc.) to identify the degree of pollution in these sediments. The second phase of the work is the recovery of sediments in the cement matrix materials and more specifically mortars.L'étude expérimentale a été réalisée sur des sédiments marins issus du littoral de Tanger en vue d’une caractérisation physico-chimique.
Determination of heavy metals in marine sediments using MAME-GFAAS
A new green method has been developed for the extraction of the pseudo-total content of the heavy metals Ni, Cu, Cr, Pb, and Cd from marine sediments using a mixture of biodegradable micellar media (SDS, Triton X-100) as extractants and graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS) for their determination. This work is the first one that uses only surfactants as extractants, without the addition of chelating agents to increase the extraction efficiency of the method, proving to be effective in the extraction of metals from these types of matrices. The proposed method has shown high recovery percentages for all the metals considered (>68%), good linearity and reproducibility (RSD < 5.9%), as well as detection limits ranging from 0.06 to 2.78 μg g−1. The method was applied to the determination of the heavy metals under study in samples with different physicochemical properties. Finally, our results were compared with those obtained using microwave assisted extraction – graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (MAE/GFAAS) described in ISO 11047:1998 obtaining comparable results.Ciencias del Ma

Relationships Between Heavy Metals Contamination in Shallow Marine Sediments with Industrial and Urban Development in Catalonia (Northwestern Mediterranean Sea)
16 páginas, 4 tablas, 4 figurasA total of 179 surface sediment samples from shallow waters have been collected in Catalonia (Northwestern Mediterranean) from 2002 to 2010 to analyze heavy metals (Al, Cd, Cu, Hg, Pb, V, and Zn) concentrations, organic matter content, and sediment size in order (i) to find baseline values, (ii) to investigate metal contamination trends, and (iii) to identify its spatial and temporal distribution. Highest metals concentrations were registered in the Barcelona metropolitan area and in the mouth of Besòs and Llobregat Rivers for Zn, Cu, Pb, and Cd. Mercury was also abundant in these areas but the highest record was found close to Tarragona. The concentrations agree with those reported in other studies performed in big river’s mouths and industrialized areas. The absence of large industrial activity and urbanization outside Barcelona and Tarragona explains the low metal contents found at the other sampling sites. Based on enrichment factor (EF), Pb was the most enriched metal. Results will provide a useful aid for sustainable marine management in Catalonia.Acknowledgements are due to Agència
