Computing the Vapnik Chervonenkis Dimension for Non-Discrete Settings
In 1984, Valiant [ 7 ] introduced the Probably Approximately Correct (PAC)
learning framework for boolean function classes. Blumer et al. [ 2] extended
this model in 1989 by introducing the VC dimension as a tool to characterize
the learnability of PAC. The VC dimension was based on the work of Vapnik and
Chervonenkis in 1971 [8 ], who introduced a tool called the growth function to
characterize the shattering property. Researchers have since determined the VC
dimension for specific classes, and efforts have been made to develop an
algorithm that can calculate the VC dimension for any concept class. In 1991,
Linial, Mansour, and Rivest [4] presented an algorithm for computing the VC
dimension in the discrete setting, assuming that both the concept class and
domain set were finite. However, no attempts had been made to design an
algorithm that could compute the VC dimension in the general setting. Therefore,
our work focuses on developing a method to approximately compute the VC
dimension without constraints on the concept classes or their domain set. Our
approach is based on our finding that the Empirical Risk Minimization (ERM)
learning paradigm can be used as a new tool to characterize the shattering
property of a concept class
High Performance Computing Applied to Logistic Regression: A CPU and GPU Implementation Comparison
We present a versatile GPU-based parallel version of Logistic Regression
(LR), aiming to address the increasing demand for faster algorithms in binary
classification due to large data sets. Our implementation is a direct
translation of the parallel Gradient Descent Logistic Regression algorithm
proposed by X. Zou et al. [12]. Our experiments demonstrate that our GPU-based
LR outperforms existing CPU-based implementations in terms of execution time
while maintaining comparable f1 score. The significant acceleration of
processing large datasets makes our method particularly advantageous for
real-time prediction applications like image recognition, spam detection, and
fraud detection. Our algorithm is implemented in a ready-to-use Python library

A module placement scheme for fog-based smart farming applications
As in Industry 4.0 era, the impact of the internet of things (IoT) on the advancement of the agricultural sector is constantly increasing. IoT enables automation, precision, and efficiency in traditional farming methods, opening up new possibilities for agricultural advancement. Furthermore, many IoT-based smart farming systems are designed based on fog and edge architecture. Fog computing provides computing, storage, and networking services to latency-sensitive applications (such as Agribots-agricultural robots-drones, and IoT-based healthcare monitoring systems), instead of sending data to the cloud. However, due to the limited computing and storage resources of fog nodes used in smart farming, designing a modules placement scheme for resources management is a major challenge for fog based smart farming applications. In this paper, our proposed module placement algorithm aims to achieve efficient resource utilization of fog nodes and reduce application delay and network usage in Fog-based smart farming applications. To evaluate the efficacy of our proposal, the simulation was done using iFogSim. Results show that the proposed approach is able to achieve significant reductions in latency and network usage
Pan African Medical Journal 2016; 2

Biodiversity of riparian beetles of Sidi Moussa-Oualidia, wetland of Atlantic Morocco
Despite being a legally protected Ramsar site, Sidi Moussa-Oualidia wetland is affected by an increasingly visible imbalance due to human interactions and activities. The goal of the present work was a survey of the riparian beetles in the area, finding out or determining their role or importance in the ecosystem. The insects sampling technique used Barber traps, quadrates and hunting by sight. Quantitative and qualitative studies were carried out on four sampling sites. The current study allowed us to identify 26 significantly abundant beetle species. Human activities can be shown through the composition, abundance and spatio-temporal variation of the collected beetle community. As a reference tool our results would contribute to a better understanding of the evolution of this sensitive ecosystem and would provide elements for a conservation and sustainable development strategy
Key words: vulve, cancer, diagnostic tardif, chirurgie, radiothérapi
Ecology of Scedosporium Species: Present Knowledge and Future Research
The genus Scedosporium, which comprises at least five clinically relevant species, i.e. Scedosporium apiospermum, Scedosporium boydii, Scedosporium aurantiacum, Scedosporium dehoogii and Scedosporium minutisporum, ranks the second among the filamentous fungi colonizing the airways of patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). This colonization of the airways is thought to contribute to the inflammatory reaction leading to a progressive deterioration of the lung function. Additionally, these colonizing fungi may lead to severe disseminated infections in case of lung transplantation. Therefore, considering the low susceptibility of Scedosporium species to all current antifungal drugs, preventive measures should be defined to reduce the risk of exposure to these fungi for non-colonized CF patients. With this in mind, several studies have been conducted to elucidate the ecology of these fungi and to define possible sources of patient contamination. This review will summarize the major outcomes of those studies, including: the clear demonstration that ecological niches of Scedosporium species are strongly impacted by human activities, and the ability of Scedosporium species to degrade aliphatic and aromatic pollutants which supports the high occurrence of these species in contaminated soils and polluted waters and makes them promising candidates for bioremediation purposes. Finally, prospects for future research in this field are proposed
Semi-automated repetitive sequence-based PCR amplification for species of the Scedosporium apiospermum complex
International audiencePurpose: The Scedosporium apiospermum species complex usually ranks second among the filamentous fungi colonizing the airways of patients with cystic fibrosis (CF), but little is known about the molecular epidemiology of the airway colonization. Methods: Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of repetitive sequences (rep-PCR) was applied to the retrospective analysis of a panel of isolates already studied by random amplification of polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and comprising 63 isolates recovered from sputa from 9 CF patients. Results were compared to those obtained previously by RAPD, and herein by beta-tubulin (TUB) gene sequencing and Multilocus Sequence Typing (MLST).Results: Within the panel of isolates studied, S. apiospermum sensu stricto and Sce-dosporium boydii, as expected, were the predominant species with 21 and 36 isolates, respectively. Four isolates from one patient were identified as Scedosporium auranti-acum, whereas two isolates belonged to the Pseudallescheria ellipsoidea subgroup of S. boydii. rep-PCR analysis of these isolates clearly differentiated the three species and P. ellipsoidea isolates, whatever the rep-PCR kit used, and also permitted strain differentiation. When using the mold primer kit, results from rep-PCR were in close agreement with those obtained by MLST. For both S. apiospermum and S. boydii, 8 genotypes were differentiated by rep-PCR and MLST compared to 10 by RAPD. All S. aurantiacum isolates shared the same RAPD genotype and exhibited the same rep-PCR profile and sequence type. Conclusions: These results illustrate the efficacy of rep-PCR for both species identification within the S. apiospermum complex and genotyping for the two major species of this comple
