This paper is the first half of the paper which examines how the public hall newsletter of the early public hall is connected to the prewar local community media in the case of Tatsuoka Village and Shigeno Village in Nagano Prefecture. In Tatsuoka and Shigeno, local community media were published by local residents, especially young people, before the war. It will be discontinued due to the wartime regime. During the postwar democratization, a public hall was set up and a public hall newsletter was issued, but there are differences in the issuing systems in Tatsuoka and Shigeno. From these cases, it is clarified that the business of editing and publishing the local community media of residents from the early Showa period to 1940 will continue after the war, while being linked to national policies, especially social education (out-of-school education) and public hall policies. In this paper, it is revealed that in Tatsuoka village, the pre-war local community media publishing led to the publication of the post-war public hall newsletter

This paper examined the background which a monthly magazine by Citizen Editorial Committee has been launched. Study materials are a monthly magazine and a public hall paper which are published in Matsukawa Town, Nagano Prefecture. As a result, it became clear that there was a conflict between the town government and the public hall newspaper editors. However, it was found that there is a sort of residents attitude as the background of the conflict. And this paper has determined that the attitude has been cultivated by social education, which has been continuing to practice in this town. Therefore, this paper suggests that it is important for the community media research to consider the conditions of community in which the medium is located

This paper examines a media that published by young people's association in Tatuoka village, Nagano prefecture, from 1930 to 1940. Similar types of media are found in Nagano Prefecture, and many of the previous studies have argued that it was young people's association's official newspaper. In this paper, it is clarified that it was not a association's official newspaper but a newspaper that reported the situation of the village. And this paper revealed that it was strongly influenced by the media situation surrounding the village and the national newspaper control at that time

This paper is the latter half of the paper which examines how the public hall newsletter of the early public hall is connected to the prewar local community media in the case of Tatsuoka Village and Shigeno Village in Nagano Prefecture. In this paper, the experience of publishing pre-war local community media in Shigeno village did not lead to the publication of the post-war public hall newsletter, and it was observed that the public hall newsletter was parallel to another local community media that draws on the flow of pre-war local community media. Finally, we considered the cases of Tsuoka and Shigeno, and pointed out that the pre-war local community media publishing was connected to the post-war local community media publishing while being linked to the acceptance and practice of post-war social education (out-of-school education) and public hall policies in the local community

This paper examined "Community Information Magazine WAGO" published by a community hall in Shonai Town, Yamagata Prefecture. Specifically, the following two points were examined. The first point is why the name of the magazine was changed to "WAGO" instead of "HONAMI". The second point is that even if the name of the magazine changes, the number of magazines is inherited. Based on the towns and villages merger process that Shonai Town follows, we examined these. Therefore, this paper is also an attempt to examine the community media in the context of the local community

Decoding Emotional Valence from Electroencephalographic Rhythmic Activity

We attempt to decode emotional valence from electroencephalographic rhythmic activity in a naturalistic setting. We employ a data-driven method developed in a previous study, Spectral Linear Discriminant Analysis, to discover the relationships between the classification task and independent neuronal sources, optimally utilizing multiple frequency bands. A detailed investigation of the classifier provides insight into the neuronal sources related with emotional valence, and the individual differences of the subjects in processing emotions. Our findings show: (1) sources whose locations are similar across subjects are consistently involved in emotional responses, with the involvement of parietal sources being especially significant, and (2) even though the locations of the involved neuronal sources are consistent, subjects can display highly varying degrees of valence-related EEG activity in the sources.Peer reviewe

Mao-to Prolongs the Survival of and Reduces TNF-α Expression in Mice with Viral Myocarditis

Goal of this study was to evaluate effects of Mao-to on development of myocarditis induced by encephalomyocarditis (EMC) virus in mice. Mice were randomly divided into five groups. Group N included uninfected controls (n = 18), while group A, B and C underwent intraperitoneal injection of EMC virus. Group A was administered oral saline from day 0 to day 4. Group B was administered oral Mao-to (500 mg−1 kg−1 day−1) from day 0 to day 4. Group C was administered Mao-to from day 2 to day 6. Group D was administered Mao-to from day 5 to day 10. Treated mice were followed for survival rates during 2 weeks after infection. Body weight (BW) and organ weights including heart (HW), lungs, thymus and spleen were examined on days 4, 6 and 14. Survival rate of group C (36.4%) was significantly improved compared with group A, B or D (0% of each, P < 0.05). HW and HW/BW ratio in group C was significantly (P < 0.05) lower than those in group A, B or D. Viral titers of hearts were significantly different among groups A, B and C. Cardiac expression in tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) was significantly reduced in group C in comparison with group A, B or D on day 6 by immunohistochemical study. Administration of Mao-to starting on day 2 improves mortality resulting from viral myocarditis in mice with reduced expression of cardiac TNF-α. These findings suggest that timing of Mao-to is crucial for preventing cardiac damage in mice with viral myocarditis
