In Remembrance: Dominique âMomoâ Morin
Dominique âMomoâ Morin, a deminer, trainer and supervisor for Fondation Suisse de DĂ©minage, was killed in an accidental mine blast on 10 May 2010. Morin, 54, was working in the northern town of Vavuniya, 254 kilometers (158 miles) north of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Formerly with the French military, Morin had been working in mine action for the past 10 years, training and supervising hundreds of national deminers. Morin dedicated his life to demining and was widely respected throughout the demining community
Self-awareness review Part 2: Changing or escaping the self
When we become self-aware we see who we are and what we would like to be. What do we
do? Do we change who we are? Or do we escape self-awareness by watching TVâor worst,
by drinking alcohol, doing drugs, or committing suicide
Watkins first woman dean at university in nine years
Julia M. Watkins, the acting dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, has a history at the University of Maine that dates back to 1971⊠Watkins is the first woman in nine years to serve as a dean at the university, said Devon R. Storman, assistant to the vice president for Academic Affairs, John Hitt
Top-Down Skiplists
We describe todolists (top-down skiplists), a variant of skiplists (Pugh
1990) that can execute searches using at most
binary comparisons per search and that have amortized update time
. A variant of todolists, called working-todolists,
can execute a search for any element using binary comparisons and have amortized search time
. Here, is the "working-set number" of
. No previous data structure is known to achieve a bound better than
comparisons. We show through experiments that, if implemented
carefully, todolists are comparable to other common dictionary implementations
in terms of insertion times and outperform them in terms of search times.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figure
ESSO Reporter\u27s 10th Anniversary on WLBZ
Irv Hunter emceeing a review of ten years of the ESSO Reporter program on WLBZ Radio. Anthony Morin, Jr., of Bangor, a 10-year-old-boy (helped by his brother, Robert) reviews major events of the past ten years. WLBZ is congratulated by several ESSO officials on bringing up-to-the-minute news to the listening audience several times each day. Speakers include Verne Carrier, June Richdale, R. M. Gray, and A. E. Webber and Edward E. Guernsey. Recorded in 1949.https://digitalcommons.library.umaine.edu/wlbz_station_records/1060/thumbnail.jp

Quick application/release nut with engagement indicator
A composite nut is shown which permits a fastener to be inserted or removed from either side with an indicator of fastener engagement. The nut has a plurality of segments, preferably at least three segments, which are internally threaded, spring loaded apart by an internal spring, and has detents on opposite sides which force the nut segments into operative engagements with a threaded member when pushed in and release the segments for quick insertion or removal of the nut when moved out. When the nut is installed, end pressure on one of the detents presses the nut segments into operative engagement with a threaded member where continued rotation locks the structure together with the detents depressed to indicate positive locking engagement of the nut. On removal, counterclockwise rotation of the nut relieves the endwise pressure on the detents, permitting internal springs to force the detents outward and allowing the nut segments to move outward and separate to permit quick removal of the fastener
Gender Differences in Sitting Positions of College Students and an Explanation of These Differences
This article explores the differences in the sitting positions of college men and women. After conducting unobtrusive observations of 83 students at the University of New Hampshire, we analyzed our data and found that there are differences in the way men and women sit. Men tend to sit in open positions while women tend to sit in closed positions. Differences in leg positions were more notable than differences in arm positions. In regard to arm and leg combinations, the most common combination for men was open arm/open leg. There were no significant differences between arm and leg combinations of women. We explain these differences using the theory of social construction and by pulling from various articles ideas of gender socialization. It is important to understand that gender differences in body movement and behavior are not natural. If we can recognize that these differences are learned, we can begin to eliminate gender inequality and stereotypes
