Morphogen Transport in Epithelia
We present a general theoretical framework to discuss mechanisms of morphogen
transport and gradient formation in a cell layer. Trafficking events on the
cellular scale lead to transport on larger scales. We discuss in particular the
case of transcytosis where morphogens undergo repeated rounds of
internalization into cells and recycling. Based on a description on the
cellular scale, we derive effective nonlinear transport equations in one and
two dimensions which are valid on larger scales. We derive analytic expressions
for the concentration dependence of the effective diffusion coefficient and the
effective degradation rate. We discuss the effects of a directional bias on
morphogen transport and those of the coupling of the morphogen and receptor
kinetics. Furthermore, we discuss general properties of cellular transport
processes such as the robustness of gradients and relate our results to recent
experiments on the morphogen Decapentaplegic (Dpp) that acts in the fruit fly

Intelligent Energy Systems As a Modern Basis For Improving Energy Efficiency
This work presents data on the share of energy costs in the cost structure for different countries. The information is provided on reducing the use of energy resources by means of introducing the intelligent control systems in the industrial enterprises. The structure and the use of such intelligent systems in the energy industry are under our consideration. It is shown that the constructing an intelligent system should be the strategic direction for the development of the distribution grid complex implying the four main areas for improvement: intellectualization of the equipment, management, communication and automation

Effect of an annealing on magnetic properties of Fe-Ni films electroplated in citric-acid-based plating baths
We have already reported Fe-Ni films with good soft magnetic properties prepared by using an electroplating method. In the present study, we employed an annealing for further improvement in soft magnetic properties of the electroplated Fe-Ni films. The annealing reduces the coercivity of the films, and the reduction rate of the coercivity depended on the Cl- ion concentration in the bath. The Fe22Ni78 films prepared in the plating bath with high Cl- ion concentration showed large reduction rate of the coercivity, and we found that the annealing is more effective for high Cl- ion concentration bath since much lower coercivity value can be obtained compared with that for low Cl- ion concentration one
Effect of Ammonium Chloride in Plating Baths on Soft Magnetic Properties of Electroplated Fe?Ni Films
We electroplated Fe-Ni films in plating baths with ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) and evaluated the magnetic properties of the films. The amount of NH4Cl did not affect the current efficiency of the plating process and the Fe content in the film. The obtained current efficiency of approximately 95% is much higher than our previous study. The coercivity dramatically decreased with increasing NH4Cl from 0 to 15 g/L, and we obtained Fe22Ni78 films with very low coercivity (10 A/m). The Cl- concentration in the plating bath affected the coercivity, and we found that a plating bath with moderate low concentration of Cl- is preferred for obtaining the Fe22Ni78 films with low coercivity
Microbial Community Composition of Two Environmentally Conserved Estuaries in the Midorikawa River and Shirakawa River
To provide a general overview of the microbial communities in environmentally conserved estuaries, the top 5 cm of sediment was sampled from the sandy estuary of the Shirakawa River and from the muddy estuary of the Midorikawa River. Higher amounts of organic matter were detected in the Midorikawa estuary sample than in the Shirakawa estuary sample. Measurement of redox potential revealed that the Shirakawa estuary was aerobic and the Midorikawa estuary was much less aerobic. Clone analysis was performed by targeting partial 16S rRNA gene sequences and using extracted DNA from the samples as a template. Various bacteria were detected, among which Gammaproteobacteria was dominant at both estuaries. Unclassified clones were detected in the Gammaproteobacteria group, mainly among samples from the Midorikawa estuary. Other detected bacterial groups were Alphaproteobacteria, Deltaproteobacteria, Chloroflexi, Actinobacteria, and Bacteroidetes. All the Deltaproteobacteria clones were anaerobic sulfate-reducing bacteria. Those aerobic and anaerobic bacteria coexisted in the top 5 cm of the estuary sediments indicating the surface layer have active sulfur and carbon cycle. Abundance of aerobic Gammaproteobacteria may be an indicator for conserved estuaries
A case of maxillary sarcoma in a chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes).
Oral malignancy is rare in chimpanzees. A 34-year-old female chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) at Kumamoto Sanctuary, Japan, had developed it. Treatment is technically difficult for chimpanzees while malignant neoplasm is seemingly rising in captive populations. Widespread expert discussion, guidelines for treatment, especially for great apes in terminal stages is urgently needed
