Federico II e Machiavelli. Una reinterpretazione

The present article suggests we should not see any contradiction between the politics adopted bv Frederick the Great following the conquest of Silesia and his Anti-Machiavel. which contained a decidedly negative outlook on Machiavelli, nor should we deem Frederick’s claim to Enlightenment to conflict with his Machtpolitik. Frederick's Enlightenment is clearlv sui generis, consisting in nothing but a radically pragmatic rationalism. What results from a similar position is a philosophical worldview based upon an ethics which is at the same time naturalistic and social. Frederick aims at reconciling self-love with the quest for the common good, sacrificing the former to the latter in case they should be incompatible with one another. Therefore Machiavelli is denounced as a moral philosopher, who lets the prince’s private interest prevail over that of the State. Expansionism, necessarv to the State’s growth, is hence a moral and political duty of the sovereign. The king’s duties exceed those of private individuals. Not onlv carrying out wars, but also conquering and breaking pacts can have a moral value, as long as the sovereign is inspired by the common good and not bv Machiavelli's false moralitv

Heart failure: A difficult case of diagnostic definition

Abstract We describe the case of a 58year old man, who had recently undergone a coronary angioplasty with implantation of DES on the proximal circumflex branch and MO1 proximal for a NSTEMI, who had come to the emergency department complaining of severe pain in the back radiating in the precordial region. A few days later he developed a framework of acute heart failure with severe left ventricular dysfunction, accompanied by fever and blood cultures positive for Staphylococcus aureus . Instrumental examinations showed a massive coronary pseudoaneurysm originating from the circumflex branch ostium, which led to compressive action against anterior descending artery

Nicola Abbagnano entre a filosofia da crise e a filosofia do compromisso

    Get PDF

Adverse reaction to benzathine benzylpenicillin due to soy allergy: A case report

INTRODUCTION: Soybean allergy is one of the most common food allergies especially among children. The Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA) in the US requires the labeling of soy lecithin because it is derived from soybeans and may contain a number of IgE-binding proteins, possibly representing a source of hidden allergens. Here we describe a pediatric case of soy allergy misunderstood as drug allergy. CASE PRESENTATION: An 11-year-old Caucasian girl was referred to our Allergy Unit because of the delayed appearance of an itching papular rash at the site of an injection of benzathine benzylpenicillin delivered by prefilled syringe. A skin test with benzathine benzylpenicillin and detection of serum-specific IgE to penicilloyl V, penicilloyl G, ampicillin and amoxicillin were negative. From her past medical history we know that, at the age of three years, she presented with edema of the lips and difficulty in breathing after eating a soy ice-cream. For that reason, she underwent a skin prick test with soybean that was negative and a serum-specific IgE to soybean test that was weakly positive (0.21KU/L). She underwent an oral provocation test with soy milk that yielded a positive result. CONCLUSIONS: We describe a case of a patient with a delayed reaction to soy as a hidden allergen in a benzathine benzylpenicillin prefilled syringe. This case shows that lecithin contaminated by soy proteins and used as an excipient in drugs can cause reactions in patients with soy allergy. For that reason, the source of lecithin should always be specified among the constituents of drugs to avoid a source of hidden allergens and difficulties in the allergy work-up

Feral rabbit populations in a peri-urban area: insights about invasion dynamics and potential management strategies

AbstractWhere introduced, the European rabbit Oryctolagus cuniculus is considered among the most destructive and invasive species. To date, research focused mostly on populations of wild rabbit, whereas little is known on feral domestic rabbit populations. In this work, we reported the establishment of two self-sustaining populations of feral rabbits in Italy. Direct observations were conducted to assess rabbit range expansion and population increase over time. We also evaluated prey-predator interactions between rabbits and native red foxes Vulpes vulpes, by means of camera trapping and the analysis of fox scats. Moreover, we also assessed the social perception towards feral rabbits and the acceptability of various management options through the administration of a structured questionnaire to park visitors. Rabbit populations increased between 2018 and 2019, as well as the size of the invaded range. Rabbits are predated by foxes, but they seem to have adapted their activity rhythms to minimize the risk of predation, becoming diurnal. Park visitors loved rabbits and deemed them to be a positive presence in the park, which deserve to live there. Surgical sterilization of rabbits was the only management option which was partially supported. Feral domestic rabbits, albeit a neglected species in invasion biology, can become extremely successful invaders of urban green areas: in < 5 years, rabbits were able to colonize our study area and become a food resource for native predators and also an iconic species. These three points raise concerns about the potential impacts of invasive feral rabbits in European urban green areas and call for further research in this direction

MEG: Muon to Electron and Gamma

The possible existence of the \mu \rightarrow {e} \gammaμ→eγ decay predicted by many new physics scenarios is investigated by stopping positive muons in a very thin target and measuring emitted photons and positrons with the best possible resolutions. Photons are measured by a 2.7 ton ultra pure liquid xenon detector while positron trajectories are measured in a specially designed gradient magnetic field by low-mass drift chambers and precisely timed by scintillation counters. A first phase of the experiment (MEG) ended in 2016, and excluded the existence of the decay with branching ratios larger than 4.2 \times 10^{-13}4.2×10−13 (90% C.L.). This provides approximately 30~times stronger constraints on a variety of new physics models than previous experiments. In the second phase (MEG II), most of the detectors have been upgraded by adopting up-to-date technologies to improve the search sensitivity by another order of magnitude down to \mathcal{O}(10^{-14})(10−14). MEG II will perform a search for physics beyond the Standard Model complementary to high energy collider experiments with compatible or even higher sensitivity
