    The Development of Wingate Normative-Reference Values for a Healthy Canadian Adult Population

    Introduction. The Wingate anaerobic test is a tool used to evaluate anaerobic power and capacity. While it is commonly utilized to assess performance, specifically among athletic populations, its evaluative capacity for non-athletic populations is limited by the lack of published data and normative-reference standards in the literature. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop Wingate normative-reference values that are representative of the general young and healthy Canadian adult population. Methods. A convenience sample of 873 (396 males and 477 females) university students, ranging in age from 20 to 29 years, was examined. Data were collected in a Kinesiology laboratory-based course from 2010 to 2019. Participants completed a Wingate exercise protocol, which consisted of two 30-second bouts of pedalling that were separated by a 30-second rest period. During the testing bouts, participants pedalled against a resistance equivalent to 7.5% of their body mass in kilograms. Results.An overall trend of higher peak power (PP) and mean power (MP) values among male participants in comparison to female participants was observed, while females displayed lower fatigue index (FI) scores. The collected data allowed for normative-reference values, including percentile rankings and seven performance classifications, to be generated. The development of these Wingate norms, specific to the target population, will allow for significant practical applications, including an effective method in assessing anaerobic performance and health

    In terms of existing buildings’ retrofit, historical and non-residential buildings clearly represent two challenging categories. In historical buildings, due to architectural constraints, acting on the technical side is often the only way to reduce consumptions, while non-residential buildings usually require simultaneous production of hot and chilled water. In these cases, Polyvalent heat pumps represent an interesting solution, able to guarantee significant reductions of primary energy consumptions. In detail, a Reference Building for an historical office was simulated in three Mediterranean cities, using EnergyPlus software and some evaluation tools specifically set to emulate the energy performances of the examined HVAC technologies

    The present article is the result of a research which analyses the management competencies, especially the management competencies of the Human Resources Managers. This is a case study performed at the Caixa Econômica Federal, a large, traditional, and widely known banking institution for the Brazilians citizens. The subject matter of the research are the human resources managers of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, and the data were collected through documents and semi-directed individual interviews. The analysis of the data followed guidelines for the Content Analysis, and it was aimed at identifying competencies which the Human Resources managers (HR) stationed at the Human Resources areas of the CAIXA, perceive as theirs and compare those management competencies required by the company. The results point out to some indications about how the management competencies were being re-configurated along the historical trajectory of the Bank, which is seen as important for the present configuration of the competencies. Specially in relation to the Human Resources area, the profile devised for the manager has changed, as well as the characteristics expected in the manager, which is now expected to be versatile, with multiple and varied roles.El presente artículo resulta de una investigación que aborda la temática competencias gerenciales, especificamente competencias gerenciales de gestores de Recursos Humanos. Se trata de un estudio de caso realizado en la Caixa Econômica Federal, institución financera centenaria, de grande porte y de abrangencia nacional. Los sujetos de la investigación son gestores de recursos humanos del estado del Rio Grande do Sul, y los datos fueron colectados a través de fuentes documentales y entrevistas individuales semidirigidas. El análisis de los datos seguió orientaciones para el Análisis de Contenido, y buscó identificar las competencias que los gestores de Recursos humanos (RH), alocados en las áreas de RH de la CAIXA en el estado del Rio Grande do Sul perceben como suas, y comparalas com las competencias gerenciales requeridas por la empresa. Los resultados apuntan para algunas consideraciones acerca de como las competencias gerenciales fueron se reconfigurando al largo de la historia de la CAIXA, lo que se mostra importante a la compreensión de la actual configuración de las competencias. Especificamente en relación a la área de Recursos Humanos, mudó el perfil trazado para el gestor, y cambiaran, efectivamente, las características del gestor que se presenta como un profesional versatil, con múltiplos y variados papeles.O presente artigo resulta de uma pesquisa que aborda a temática competências gerenciais, especificamente competências gerencias de gestores de Recursos Humanos.
