Diseño de cimentaciones directas para grúas torre en Edificación.

Los puntos principales a tener en cuenta en el diseño o comprobación de una cimentación directa para una grúa torre convencional, son tratados en el presente artículo. Aspectos tales como las acciones a considerar en el cálculo del elemento, las comprobaciones frente a la estabilidad del conjunto cimiento-torre, la transmisión de presiones al terreno o el dimensionado de las armaduras de refuerzo, serán objeto de desarrollo en este documento. El escrito pretende servir de guía a los técnicos que se enfrenten al diseño de una cimentación de estas características, aportando herramientas de cálculo, recursos técnicos y bibliografía al respecto

Creation, development and assessment tests standards-based application results to diagnose math and reading skills to university entrance

El artículo presenta el proceso de creación y desarrollo de pruebas de evaluación de las competencias en Matemática y Lectura para el nivel de ingreso a la Universidad y su aplicación a los ingresantes a los Centros Universitarios Regionales de la Universidad de la República (Uruguay) que atraen a un perfil de estudiantes con vulnerabilidad social y académica. La metodología utilizada para el desarrollo de las pruebas implicó la creación y establecimiento de estándares de contenido a través de grupos de expertos. La clasificación en los estándares de desempeño se obtuvo a través de un método nuevo propuesto por García et al. (2013) basado en la Teoría de Respuesta al Ítem (TRI). Se obtuvieron dos pruebas unidimensionales, con muy buena consistencia interna, validadas y calibradas mediante TRI que clasificaron a los estudiantes en tres niveles de desempeño (insuficiente, suficiente y avanzado). El 22% superó la suficiencia en la prueba de Matemática y el 53% lo logró en la prueba de Lectura. Aunque la proporción de estudiantes que alcanzaron la suficiencia es baja, estos resultados son coherentes con otras investigaciones e impulsaron líneas de acción que incluyeron la creación de grupos académicos en Lectura y Matemática para el diseño de programas de apoyoThe article presents the process of creation and development of assessment tests in Math and Reading skills for entry level to university and its application to entrants to Regional University Centers of the University of the Republic (Uruguay) that attract a profile of students with social and academic vulnerability . Methodology used for tests development involved creation and establishment of content standards through expert groups. Performance standards’ classification was obtained through a new method proposed by Garcia et al. (2013) based on the Item Response Theory (IRT). Two one-dimensional tests were obtained, with very good internal consistency, validated and calibrated by IRT that classified students in three performance levels (insufficient, sufficient and advanced). The 22% overcame the sufficiency in Math test and 53% it reached in Reading test. Although students’ proportion of achieving proficiency is low, these results are consistent with other research and it promoted action lines that included the creation of academic groups in Reading and Mathematics for the design of support program

The painter Gaspar de Quevedo, his apprenticeship in Seville and new works in Canary Islands

El pintor canario Gaspar de Quevedo se estableció a comienzos del tercio central del siglo XVII en Sevilla, de donde regresó a Tenerife tras enviudar en 1649. En este trabajo se aclara su –hasta ahora supuesta– formación pictórica en la ciudad andaluza, al revelarse la identidad su maestro, Miguel Güelles, con quien concertó su aprendizaje en 1633. Además de esta noticia, que obliga a reconsiderar su itinerario biográfico, proponemos atribuirle tres pinturas conservadas en otros tantos templos isleños –en Tenerife y Lanzarote– que contribuyen a perfilar su catálogo y su trayectoria artística entre Andalucía y Canarias.The canarian painter Gaspar de Quevedo was stablished at the beginings of the 1630s of the XVIIth century in Seville, from where he came back to Tenerife after he became a widow in 1649. This article illustrates his –until now supposed– pictoric training in the andalusian city, and unlock the identity of his master, Miguel Güelles, whom he concerted his apprenticeship in 1633. Further more this notice, wich obligates to reconsider his biographical itinerary, we propose to attribute three paintings than have been conservated in some temples of the islands –in Tenerife and Lanzarote–, that contribute to outline his catalogue and his artistic career in Andalusia and Canary Islands

Diseño de Basas y Placas de anclaje en estructura metálica se acuerdo al CTE.

En el artículo se realiza una comparativa entre el denominado método de los voladizos recogido en la AISC y el método recogido en el DB-CTE-SE-Acero, para el diseño de basas bajo pilares metálicos solicitadas a compresión simple. El artículo cuenta con un desarrollo teórico de las expresiones definidas en ambos códigos para este tipo de elementos, y además se incluye un modelo de elementos finitos que pretende aclarar el comportamiento de este tipo de uniones

Agronomical indicators for determination of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) tolerance to drought

Lately, water shortage has caused 50% losses in potato yields in several Central American countries. Knowledge and use of more tolerant potato varieties are a critical element to increase production and yields under stressing conditions. The experiments were developed at the Center for Tropical Crops Research (INIVIT), between December 2014, and March 2015. Ten plots were planted, including different varieties. Half of them (5) were not irrigated for 20 days, starting on the 50th day after plantation (drought stress period). Irrigation was resumed on the 70th day. The Stress Susceptibility Index (SSI), Stress Tolerance Index (STI), Tolerance Index (TOL), Mean Productivity (MP), and Yield Stability Index (YSI). The Atlas and Maranca varieties had the lowest values for SSI (0.67 and 0.61, respectively), and the highest values for STI (0.79 and 0.81, respectively). The highest MP (19.92 t/ha) was achieved by Atlas. The highest YSI values were observed in Maranca and Atlas (81.07 and 79.29, respectively)

Hygroscopicity issues in powder and grain technology

The effect of hygroscopicity on flowability of powders and bulk solids with applications in the packaging industry is experimentally and numerically investigated. Firstly, four granular materials are tested at different water contents to study the impact of relative humidity on some hydro-mechanical properties, namely the hydraulic diffusivity on wetting, as well as the shear strength and compressibility properties of the materials. Next, a capillary model covering a wider water content range –compared to the previous tests– is applied to discrete element simulations of a granular column collapse set-up. These simulations give further insight into important aspects of grain hygroscopicity in packaging and other industrial applications (such as the kinematics of flow and flowability issues), which are outside the scope of conventional experimental testing.Postprint (published version
