A experiment was carried out at the Bela Vista Farm, in Serranópolis, State ofGoiás, with the objective to evaluate the effects of postemergence herbicides on agronomic characteristcs of soybean cv. Emgopa 316, with premature maturation cycle. Treatments consisted oflactofen (168 glha), chlorimuron-ethyl (15 glha) + mineral oil (0.2 v/v), fomesafen (250 g/ha) + mineral oil (0.2 v/v), imazethapyr (100 g/ha), chlorimuron-ethyl+lactofen (12.5+96 g/ha), chlorimuronethyl+ fomesafen (12.5+ 150 g/ha), chlorirnuron-ethyl+imazethapyr (12.5+50 g/ha), imazethapyr+lactofen (50+96 g/ha), imazethapyr+fomesafen (50+ 150 g/ha), and a handweeded control. The studied herbicide doses caused some injury to soybean, with more intensity in the treatments with lactofen. However, they did not significantly intluence the height of plants at 15, 30 and 45 days after treatments and at soybean harvest. The herbicides also did not significantly affect insertion height of the first pod, final stand, number of podslplant, weight of 1000 seeds and grain production. Imazethapyr+fomesafen (50+ 150 g/ha) gave the best result in number of internodes, but it did not differ statistically from the other treatments, except for lactofen (168 g/ha), that proportioned the lowest number of internodes. Lactofen isolated or combined with chlorimuron-ethyl or with imazethapyr can be used in soybean cv. Emgopa 316, showing results similar to fomesafen isolated or in mixture with chlorimuron-ethyl or imazethapyr

Lymphomas are neoplasias of the immune system originating from B and T cells or natural killer cells which involve lymphoid tissues that are associated with the growth of tumor masses. Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) is a lymphoproliferative malignancy characterized pathologically by the presence of neoplastic cells with a different morphology called Reed-Sternberg. The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiological profile and subtypes of HL diagnosed from 1996 to 2005 at Ophir Loyola Hospital in Belém, Pará State, Brazil. Of the total, 64.6% (42/65) of patients with HL were male and 35.4 % (23/65) of women with ages ranging from 2 to 84 years old. HL subtypes reported rates of 50.8 % (33/65), 26.2% (17/65), 15.4 % (10/65) and 7.6% (5/65) to nodular sclerosis, mixed cellularity, lymphocyte depletion and lymphocyte predominance, respectively. HL, in the period of the current study (1996-2005), it was more expressive in groups of children and teenagers which prevailed the nodular sclerosis subtype in samples diagnosed in the Pará State

Ananindeua, PA, Brasil. Two types of Epstein Barr virus (EBV1/EBV2) have been shown to infect humans. Although their genomes are similar, the regions containing the EBNA genes differ. This study aimed to characterize the EBV genotypes of infectious mononucleosis (IM) cases in the metropolitan region of Belém, Brazil, from 2005 to 2016. A total of 8295 suspected cases with symptoms/signs of IM were investigated by infectious disease physicians at Evandro Chagas Institute, Health Care Service, from January 2005 to December 2016. Out of the total, 1645 (19.8%) samples had positive results for EBV by enzyme immunoassay and 251 (15.3%) were submitted to polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique, using the EBNA3C region, in order to determine the type of EBV. Biochemical testing involving aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase and gamma-glutamyl transferase were also performed. EBV type was identified by PCR in 30.3% (76/251) of individuals; of those, 71.1% (54/76) were classified as EBV1, 17.1% (13/76) as EBV2, and 11.8% (9/76) as EBV1 + EBV2. The main symptoms/signs observed with EBV1 infection were cervical lymphadenopathy (64.8%, 35/54), fever (63%, 34/54), headache (20.4%, 11/54), arthralgia (20.4%, 11/54), and exanthema (18.5%, 10/54). EBV2 infection was detected in all but two age groups, with an average age of 24 years. The most common signs/symptoms of EBV2 were fever (76.9%, 10/13), average duration of 18 days, and lymphadenopathy (69.2%, 9/13). In contrast, EBV1 + EBV2 coinfections were more frequent in those aged five years or less (20.0%, 2/10). The symptoms of EBV1 + EBV2 coinfection included fever (66.7%, 6/9), and cervical lymphadenopathy and headache (33.3%, 3/9) each. The mean values of hepatic enzymes according to type of EBV was significantly different (p < 0.05) in those EBV1 infected over 14 years of age. Thus, this pioneering study, using molecular methods, identified the EBV genotypes in 30.3% of the samples, with circulation of EBV1, EBV2, and EBV1 + EBV2 co-infection in cases of infectious mononucleosis in the northern region of Brazil

Brazil is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, with about 37,000 species of land plants. Part of this biodiversity is within protected areas. The development of online databases in the last years greatly improved the available biodiversity data. However, the existing databases do not provide information about the protected areas in which individual plant species occur. The lack of such information is a crucial gap for conservation actions. This study aimed to show how the information captured from online databases, cleaned by a protocol and verified by taxonomists allowed us to obtain a comprehensive list of the vascular plant species from the "Parque Nacional do Itatiaia", the first national park founded in Brazil. All existing records in the online database JABOT (15,100 vouchers) were downloaded, resulting in 11,783 vouchers identified at the species level. Overall, we documented 2,316 species belonging to 176 families and 837 genera of vascular plants in the "Parque Nacional do Itatiaia". Considering the whole vascular flora, 2,238 species are native and 78 are non-native.The "Parque Nacional do Itatiaia" houses 13% of the angiosperm and 37% of the fern species known from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. Amongst these species, 82 have been cited as threatened, following IUCN categories (CR, EN or VU), seven are data deficient (DD) and 15 have been classified as a conservation priority, because they are only known from a single specimen collected before 1969
