The increasing of urban population demands the development of new technologies that provide sustainable living. This issue might debilitate the quality life of urban residents though city life always associated with national economic growth engine and social progress. Many initiatives have been commenced in elevating the economic status of urban residents including urban farming activities. In Malaysia, several stakeholders have pushed the potential of urban farming activities that help to create job, increase income, and serve as an urban garbage sink. Nonetheless, research that investigated urban farming activities could improve the economic status of urban residents still very lacking. Thus, this research aims to explore potential urban farming activities through structured literature reviews (SLR). It searched all the selected databases and found 851 papers: 378 from ScienceDirect, 17 from Web of Science and 456 from Scopus. These databases comprised comprehensive literature that concentrate on urban farming activities in Southeast Asia. Subsequently, the process of filtering was achieved based on intelligent processes. The process consists of three iterations of filtering, excluding duplicate articles, filtering titles and abstracts and reading full text articles. About 90 articles has been derived for the final classification of urban farming sub-topics. The details of the key features of topics will be discussed in the research which include the following aspects: the motivation towards urban farming activities, the advantages of urban farming especially for increasing the economic status of urban residents. The finding from this research could be used for future researchers to understand several sub-topics that related with urban farming urban residents that remain unexplored

Detection of pulmonary tuberculosis manifestation in chest x-rays using different Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models

Tuberculosis (TB) is airborne infectious disease which has claimed many lives than any other infectious disease. Chest X-rays (CXRs) are often used in recognizing TB manifestation site in chest. Lately, CXRs are taken in digital formats, which has made a huge impact in rapid diagnosis using automated systems in medical field. In our current work, four simple Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) models such as VGG-16, VGG-19, RestNet50, and GoogLenet are implemented in identification of TB manifested CXRs. Two public TB image datasets were utilized to conduct this research. This study was carried out to explore the limit of accuracies and AUCs acquired by simple and small-scale CNN with complex and large-scale CNN models. The results achieved from this work are compared with results of two previous studies. The results indicate that our proposed VGG-16 model has gained highest score overall compared to the models from other two previous studies

Towards a nuanced explanation of technology adoption determinants

    No full text
This research proposes that the adoption of business technology should be viewed through a new lens. This is parallel with the foundational knowledge of practice that suggests the decision to adopt a new business technology should be treated as a multi-level where the level of importance of each adoption factor will perform differently depending on the position where the adoption factor will be measured. Given the above scenario, this research aims to explore business technology adoption factors (i.e., determinants) in a structured manner where each of the determinant is measured at different stages. Furthermore, this research also aims to view the synergistic relationship between different adoption determinants in order to provide the maximum level of intention towards adopting new technology. The second aim of this research could be achieved through non-linear techniques. In identifying the intention determinants, the Theory of Planned Behavior will be adopted. Meanwhile, Ettlie’s multi-stage model will be used to observe the progression of superior and inferior adoption determinants towards the highest level of intention of adoption. In illustrating the above scenario, the adoption of corporate-wide systems by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will be implemented

Design and Development of Periodic Table Game for Students in Secondary School

Development of chemistry games seems to flourish with the increase of its usage in the classroom. In line with rapid technological advances, digital-game based learning (DGBL) creates more engagement to the topic being learned. It has potential to bridge the gap between education and entertainment by taking advantage of people’s natural interest in games to comply with challenging topic such as periodic table of elements. As a foundation of the chemistry subject, periodic table is the most important chemistry reference that students need to master. However, student always think that the topic is difficult to learn, uninteresting and requires a memorization skill. Therefore, this research aims to propose a Chemi-Chronicle game, a periodic table game that may help memorization tasks become more enjoyable. Subsequent to this, the game is developed to serve as a learning aid for Form 4 students who take chemistry subject. At the same time, it helps students with less skills of memorizing periodic table. This study adopted ADDIE method for game development which involves five phases: analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. Several interview sessions with chemistry teachers were done in the initial stage to identify appropriate game activities for students. Besides this, games design principles is identified to inform the developer in designing the games that is playful and motivating while achieving desired goals. It is strongly recommended that the periodic table game could appear as a promising educational aid technology for improving and strengthening knowledge in chemistry subject
