Partial least squares modelling of attitudes of students towards learning statistics
Attitudes of students are vital in determining the perceived achievements in statistics subject.
Therefore, this study investigates the relationship of attitudes of students towards learning
statistics using several constructs which are affect, cognitive, value, difficulty, interest, effort
and perceived achievement in statistics subject. Structural Equation Modelling – Partial Least
Squares methodology was used to assess the hypothesised model that linked all the constructs
of attitudes of students with the perceived achievement. The questionnaire was adopted from
previous study and distributed to undergraduate students at Universiti Malaysia Pahang. From
the analysis, it reveals that all the relationships in the hypothesised model were significant at
p < 0.05 and this shows that all constructs of attitudes of students play a vital role in learning
statistics. In short, this study reinforces the understanding of students’ attitude and could be a
step forward for the lecturer to arouse the students’ interest in the teaching and learning process
particularly for statistics
Information Security Culture Concept towards Information Security Compliance: A Comparison between IT and Non-IT Professionals
This paper examines the factors determining a positive Information Security Culture (ISC) concept and the influence of ISC towards ISP compliance intention (INT) between IT and non-IT professionals in Malaysian public universities. Partial least square structural equation modelling, using PLS MGA, is used to assess the measurement and structural models, and to compare the results between the two groups. Results indicate all factors have significant contribution towards ISC in both groups, with two out of seven ISC factors have significant differences. This study has revealed that although both groups have the same ISC factors, IT and non-IT professionals have significant difference in terms of believe that Top Management Commitment and Information Security Knowledge are required for implementing a positive ISC. In addition, there is a significant difference between these two groups in terms of the influence of ISC towards ISP compliance intention. ISC has less influence towards INT for Non-IT professionals compared to IT professionals within the same ISC. These empirical findings would benefit in formulating better security strategies by providing appropriate efforts for different groups of employees in the organizations. This study also provides a total cyber security solution for improving information security culture and employees’ compliance towards Information Security Policy
An empirical perspective of national leadership role in achieving world-class university status: the case of Malaysia
National leadership has a great impact on organisations' performance and success. The aims of this study are: (1) to examine the factors that have facilitated the emergence of Malaysian universities on the global stage; (2) to make inquiries into the Malaysian leadership's impact on factors (talent, governance, and resources. Recent studies that have been conducted on world-class universities' status did not include the effect of national leadership as a moderating variable. To carry out this study, a total sample of 126 was achieved from the respondents. The results showed a significant effect of talent, governance, and resources in achieving world-class university status in Malaysia. Second, it indicated that national leadership moderated the connection that existed between the three variables. The implication is that the basis for the successful establishment of any university in developing countries that aspire to attain world-class status is the leadership's role
Awareness of diabetes mellitus among public attending the primary health centres in Malaysia
Diabetes is a steadily growing problem in Malaysia and the increase of diabetics’ patients in Malaysia is worrisome. In relation to this, the purpose of this study is to test Diabetes Mellitus Awareness Model (DMAM) consisting of five constructs, namely knowledge, attitude, environment, symptom and diabetics awareness. This study develops the conceptual model for studying the factors among public in Malaysia in order to possibly increase the awareness towards the ailment. A total of ten hypotheses have been proposed to test the relationship in the hypothesised model between the five constructs under study. Structural equation modelling (SEM) with SmartPLS software using Partial Least Squares estimation (PLS) is used for modelling analysis. The study was conducted in two health clinics, namely Klinik Kesihatan Paya Besar and Klinik Kesihatan Padang Rumbia from 1 September 2015 to 15 October 2015. A total of 550 questionnaires were distributed and 523 questionnaires were successfully collected. From the results, it shows that knowledge on diabetics has a significant impact on a) environment, b) attitude and c) awareness towards diabetics. Next, the environment significantly influences the attitude, and attitude has a significant influence on the awareness. However, the results also show that there is no significant relationship between the environment towards awareness. In addition, both knowledge and environment has no significant effect towards symptoms of diabetes mellitus ailment. The finding also shows that the causal relationship of attitude on symptoms, and the relationship between symptom and awareness are not significant. In conclusion, the healthcare authorities may refer to DMAM as a basis model for increasing the awareness regarding this ailment especially among the public
Type 2 diabetes mellitus: Link between diet, HbA1c and complications
BackgroundDiabetes mellitus is now globally considered as a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. It is associated with high rates of microvascular and macrovascular complications. Regular consumption of high caloric food, poor dietary habits and adoption of sedentary life style has been linked with the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus.AimsThe purpose of this review is; to highlight the influence of diet on HbA1c in type 2 diabetics, to explore association between HbA1c and diabetes complications and to propose a dietary consultation model for more effective diabetes care.MethodsThe literature was reviewed intensively from January – March 2016 through PubMed central, Medscape, Google Scholar and other databases. The keywords and MeSH terms used in this search were “diabetes mellitus”, “glycated haemoglobin”, “type 2 diabetes mellitus”, “diet and type 2 diabetes mellitus” and “diabetes complications”.ResultsDietary management is a superior option for glycaemic control in type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is important to keep the HbA1c level in acceptable range to delay the onset and progression of diabetes complications. In this review, various food groups that can have beneficial and adverse effects on HbA1c have been identified. Moreover, Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) stood out as the most prevalent complication of poorly managed diabetes mellitus in Saudi Arabia.ConclusionThe dimensions of the proposed dietary consultation model are based on the assessment of diabetics’ diabetes mellitus knowledge, dietary knowledge, dietary attitude and dietary practices. This assessment if carried out at the initial stage of Diabetes mellitus can be helpful in delaying the early onset and progression of microvascular and macrovascular diabetes complications

Relationship between Internet addictions and academic performance among Afghan universities students
This study evaluates the relationship between Internet addiction and academic performance among students of eight Afghan universities. The differences between internet addiction in terms of gender was also identified. The survey/research method adopted the Internet Addiction Test (IAT) based on Young’s survey applied with some modifications. From 1000 distributed questionnaires only 976 participants (358 females, and 618 males) were responded completely. The descriptive analysis was used to identify the demographic characteristics of student’s Internet usage profile. The independents sample t-test was performed to determine the differences in the level of Internet addiction in terms of gender. Statistical significance was set at a value of p <0.01. Likewise, the correlation test was implemented to identify the relationship between Internet addiction and academic performance, with referencing of sample. The results indicated that statistically there is a significant correlation among Internet addiction and academic performance. Results also indicated that statistically there were significant differences between Internet addictions in terms of demographic characteristics. This study suggests that future researchers need to work on large sample while conducting the related research. It emphasizes that students should concentrate more on their academic activities than spending time on unnecessary Internet surfing. Findings also revealed that, in Afghanistan the problem of Internet addiction is not a serious challenge, but this information should be disseminated among undergraduate university students to stop the indulgent in using the Internet
