    Synthesis of new derivatives of 2-chloro-3-formyl-1,8-naphthyridine

    A simple and regioselective synthesis of 2-chloro-3-formyl-1,8-naphthyridine, through Vilsmeier-Haack cyclization of N-(pyridin-2-yl)acetamide has been reported. The reaction of 2-chloro-3-formyl-1,8-naphthyridine is also investigated and new series of 1,8-naphthyridine derivatives such as 3-chloro-4-(2-chloro-1,8-naphthyridine-3-yl)-1-(phenylamino)azetidin-2-one, 3-chloro-4-(2-chloro-1,8-naphthyridin-3yl)-1-((4-nitrophenyl) amino)-azetidin-2-one and 3-chloro-4-(2-chloro-1,8-naphthyridine-3-yl)-1-((2,4-dinitrophenyl) amino)-azetidin-2-one have been prepared. The formyl group in the 1,8-naphthyridine is subjected to further transformation into alkoxy carbonyl (NIS-K2CO3/alcohol) to afford 3-alkoxy carbonyl-1,8-naphthyridine and new hetero cyclic compounds such as oxadiazolo, thiadiazolo-thion and triazolo-thion have been prepared. The reaction between 2-chloro-3-formyl-1,8-naphthyridine and sodium sulphide in DMF produced 2-mercapto-3-formyl-1,8-naphthyridine. Some of the prepared compounds were found to have good biological activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis

    Optimization of bow and arrow design subject to aerodynamic characteristics

    Archery is a type of sport that has been practiced for centuries all around the globe whether it is used as war weapon, for hunting animals or just for sport competition. The aim of this research is to come up with the optimization of bow and arrow design subject to aerodynamic characteristics. In order to do that, the stiffness of the bowstring of different material was investigated while the stiffness of different arrow shaft material was analysed. Next, the optimal arrow fletcher shape was developed. Throughout this research, only one bow was used for all shots plus the string material analysis was conducted on one bow only. The design variable for fletcher optimization was set on the type of material, dimension, and fletcher orientation based on aerodynamics performance. Due to time constrain, only three type of shaft material was analysed and the data collection was in the form of arrow speed. The speed of the arrows was measured by using a chronograph. A consistency test also conducted in order to see the hit pattern of the arrow at three different ranges. Interviews with top Malaysian archer in both traditional and modern discipline were conducted to investigate their equipment choices. Parabolic shape has higher speed compared to shield shape. Offset orientation causes the arrow to have tighter group compared to straight orientation. Feather fletcher that is lighter than plastic fletcher produces much faster arrow. Fast Flight string material outrun other string material by produces fastest arrow speed. The aluminium shaft is the fastest based on the experiment but archers prefer carbon due to their physical strength and consistent spine rating

    Synthesis, characterization and investigation of antibacterial activity for some new functionalized luminol derivatives

    ABSTRACT. The present study describes synthesis of some new luminol derivatives, which might play an important role in biological active agents. These new synthesized compounds are functionalized based on luminol (LM) with different carboxylic drugs such as mefenamic acid, ibuprofen, diclofenac sodium, and ampicillin). Synthesis processes was conducted by converting carboxylic group in the investigated drugs into acid chloride group by reacting with SOCl2. Then the synthesized chloride drug derivatives were reacted with luminol in presences of DMSO and TEA to yield the final target molecules. These compounds were characterized using FTIR, NMR and CHNS techniques. Besides that, their physical properties and solubility were also investigated. Biological activity of the derivatives (TH1-TH4) was investigated using a pathogenic bacterium, Staphylococcus aureus (gram +ve), and Escherichia (E. coli) (gram -ve). The obtained results for antibacterial activity showed that TH1-TH4 derivatives have higher antibacterial activity against these types of bacteria in comparison with pure LM compound and the investigated drugs.   KEY WORDS: Luminol, Mefenamic acid, Ibuprofen, Diclofenac sodium, Ampicillin   Bull.     Drug Information Resources in Iraqi Community Pharmacies (Conference Paper) #

    Abstract      Drug information resources are the information that is used in medications discovery, utilization, and management. Little information about different types of resources used by Iraqi community pharmacists is known. Therefore, the objectives were to determine drug information resources' type do the pharmacists used and the common drug information questions they faced during their work in community pharmacy. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in different Iraqi provinces and online self-reported survey was introduced through Google Form Software to an appropriate sample of graduated pharmacists who were working in a private community pharmacy and having at least one year of experience between February 27 and May 15, 2021. The researchers received 201 usable surveys. British National Formulary was used by 47% of the surveyed pharmacists to find specific information, followed by "Pharmacotherapy(s) and Applied Therapeutics" (16.9% for both). On the other hand, internet was used by 93% of the surveyed pharmacists and Google search engine (65%) and Medscape application (62%) were frequently surfed to find specific drug information and 81% of pharmacists trusted in this information and passed them to consumers. Safety of drugs during pregnancy and lactation periods was the most frequently question received from the patients (60.7%). In conclusion pharmacists prefer to surf specific internet websites to collect specific information about medicines and they referred to pharmaceutical textbooks if available at their pharmacies to get such information. The pharmacist is the person who is more often accessed by patients and the patients follow pharmacist's instruction for specific drug related questions

    Proposed Face Detection Classification Model Based on Amazon Web Services Cloud (AWS)

    One of the most important features of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud is that the program can be run and accessed from any location. You can access and monitor the result of the program from any location, saving many images and allowing for faster computation. This work proposes a face detection classification model based on AWS cloud aiming to classify the faces into two classes: a non-permission class, and a permission class, by training the real data set collected from our cameras. The proposed Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) cloud-based system was used to share computational resources for Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) to reduce redundant computation. The test system uses Internet of Things (IoT) services through our cameras system to capture the images and upload them to the Amazon Simple Storage Service (AWS S3) cloud. Then two detectors were running, Haar cascade and multitask cascaded convolutional neural networks (MTCNN), at the Amazon Elastic Compute (AWS EC2) cloud, after that the output results of these two detectors are compared using accuracy and execution time. Then the classified non-permission images are uploaded to the AWS S3 cloud. The validation accuracy of the offline augmentation face detection classification model reached 98.81%, and the loss and mean square error were decreased to 0.0176 and 0.0064, respectively. The execution time of all AWS cloud systems for one image when using Haar cascade and MTCNN detectors reached three and seven seconds, respectively

    Stability studies of nano-cream containing piroxicam

    The aim of this study is to study the stability of the nano-cream formula containing the newly synthesized palm oil esters when stored for reasonable storage duration. The prepared 0.5% piroxicam nano-cream formula contained phosphate buffer as external phase, palm oil esters as the oil phase and a combination of (80:20) of Tween 80 and Span 20 as emulsifier at a ratio of 37:25:38, respectively. Piroxicam is a hydro-lipophobic drug. Stability on storage is an important aspect which ensures the dosage form can exert the effects it is supposed to exert for the duration of storage. Droplets size, electrical conductivity, drug content, pH and rheological parameters are the parameters that have been assessed under different temperature to evaluate the stability of nano-cream preparation. Thus, experiments which measure the above parameters were conducted at storage temperatures of 4, 25 and 40οC.The data obtained from the stability study conducted on nano-cream formula showed that this formulation was stable for the whole 3 months period of the study when stored at tested several temperatures.Keywords: Palm oil esters; Nonionic surfactant; Piroxicam; Nano-crea

    Formulation and characterization of palm oil esters based nano-cream for topical delivery of piroxicam

    Palm oil esters are high molecular weight esters oil that has been newly synthesized by University Putra Malaysia researchers. It has received a lot of attention for its pharmaceutical and chemical application. Piroxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug with analgesic and antipyretic activity. It has low solubility in water as well as in oil with Log P value of 1.8. Generally, drugs with Log P value of more than 0.5 are needed to be formulated into a modified dosage form. One of these formulations is nano sized cream. Hence, the ability of formulating of these tricky drugs into dispersed system is questionable. The aim of this study is to investigate the ability of palm oil esters to be the oil phase for formulation of piroxicam into O/W nano-cream. Three points were selected from prepared pseudoternary diagram of palm oil esters and different Tween and Span mixtures. Piroxicam solubility and partition coefficient in oil and external phase was detected. Rheological properties, droplet size, structural properties and zeta potential of the dispersion system containing piroxicam were measured. O/W cream was formed with droplet size measurement by TEM of less than 100 nm. It could be concluded that palm oil esters is suitable oil for the formulation of suitable nano-cream containing piroxicam.Keywords: Palm oil esters; Piroxicam Solubility; partition coefficient; Rheology; Surface activity

    Particle swarm optimization algorithm to enhance the roughness of thin film in tin coatings

    Nowadays, lots of disciplines require optimization to determine optimal parameters to accomplish top quality services which include parameters optimization of thin film coating. Modification of sharp tool characteristics and costs are two primary matters in the procedure of Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD). The purpose of this study is to figure out the optimal parameters in PVD coating process for better thin-film roughness. Three input parameters are chosen to describe the solutions over the target data, such as Nitrogen gas pressure (N2), Turntable speed (TT), and Argon gas pressure (Ar), although the surface roughness had been chosen being a result response of the Titanium nitrite (TiN). Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) tools were applied to describe the roughness of coating layer. Within this research, a process of modelling using Response Surface Method (RSM) was applied for surface roughness of Titanium Nitrite (TiN) coating to get a best result. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) was applied as an optimization technique for the coating process to enhance characteristics of thin film roughness. In validation process, different experimental runs of actual data were conducted. It was found that residual error (e) is less than 10, to indicate that the model can accurately predict the surface roughness. Also, PSO could reduce the value of coating roughness at reduction of ≈ 48% to get a minimum value compared to actual data
