    Reinduction of Bevacizumab in Combination with Pegylated Liposomal Doxorubicin in a Patient with Recurrent Glioblastoma Multiforme Who Progressed on Bevacizumab/Irinotecan

    Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) carries a dismal prognosis despite the current standard of multimodality treatments. Recent studies showed promising results to a regimen consisting of a VEGF inhibitor, (bevacizumab) and a topoisomerase I inhibitor (irinotecan) [BI] in recurrent GBM. However, those patients with GBM who progress on BI will succumb to their disease generally in a very short period of time. We report a case of a 56-year-old male patient with GBM who declined surgical resection and received chemoradiation with temozolomide. This treatment was withheld secondary to significant thrombocytopenia. Subsequently, he achieved stable disease for 10 months with a regimen consisting of thalidomide and tamoxifen before progressing. This was followed by bevacizumab with irinotecan [BI], for which he had a significant partial response for 8 months with subsequent progression. Reinducing the patient with bevacizumab in combination with a pegylated liposomal doxorubicin [PLD] (a topoisomerase II inhibitor) demonstrated antitumor activity with significant shrinkage of contrast enhancing mass and peritumoral edema

    Effect of Nitrogen and Spacing in Growth, Yield and Quality of Celocia cristata

    This study was carried out at the demonstration Farm of the Department of horticulture, College of Agricultural Studies during summer season. Experiment one: nitrogen (as urea)at level of 0,25 and 50kgN/fed fifteen days after transplanting of seedlings. Experiment two: manure added at the rate of 0,150 and 300kgN/fed during land preparation. The results revealed that, application of sources of nitrogen (urea or nitrogen) promoted growth of Celosia cristata .It gave the highest values of growth .addition(50kgN) of urea or 300kg/fed manure gave the best vegetative growth of Celosia cristata compared to 25kgN/fed of urea and 150kgs manure. High doses of both urea and manure delayed flowering in plant C.cristata. Moreover, flowers yield and quality, seed yield and quality were affected positively by addition of nitrogen. Increasing of plant spacing decreased plant height but increased number of branches/plant in the season .However, there were no significant effects on flower initiation of C. cristata. Maximum flowers yield and quality (number of flowers /plant or inflorescences, flower diameter and flower age) of celosia were recorded at spacing of 30and 40cm.Maximum number of seeds germination rate and uniformity of Celosia cristata were recorded at closer spacing (20,30cm)

    Blockchain-enabled provenance tracking for sustainable material reuse in construction supply chains

    The growing complexity of construction supply chains and the significant impact of the construction industry on the environment demand an understanding of how to reuse and repurpose materials. In response to this critical challenge, research gaps that are significant in promoting material circularity are described. Despite its potential, the use of blockchain technology in construction faces challenges in verifiability, scalability, privacy, and interoperability. We propose a novel multilayer blockchain framework to enhance provenance tracking and data retrieval to enable a reliable audit trail. The framework utilises a privacy-centric solution that combines decentralised and centralised storage, security, and privacy. Furthermore, the framework implements access control to strengthen security and privacy, fostering transparency and information sharing among the stakeholders. These contributions collectively lead to trusted material circularity in a built environment. The implementation framework aims to create a prototype for blockchain applications in construction supply chains

    Abstract Background The tribes of India have poor periodontal health status due to their isolation, awareness and less accessibility to dental resources. They follow traditional methods of oral hygiene practice, which are found to be inadequate and inaccurate to maintain their good oral health. This study aims to assess the oral hygiene practice, oral hygiene and periodontal status of two tribes residing in Bhadrachalam, Telangana, India. Methods Based on accessibility the two tribes Koya and Lambada were included in the study. The total study population consisted of 1000 subjects, with 500 subjects in each group. Using a preformed proforma the oral hygiene practices were recorded for two groups and oral examination was done using Oral Hygiene Index (OHI-S) index and Community Periodontal Index (CPI). Results The OHI-S ranged between 2.5–3.0 in both the groups. The CPI index scores showed that sextants with calculus, shallow pockets, deep pockets and loss of attachment of 4-5 mm were significantly present in both groups. Conclusion To conclude, though practice of poor oral hygiene and compromised periodontal status was seen among both groups. However, it was more prevalent in Koya. Under these circumstances, implementation of a basic awareness of oral health care programme for these tribes should be a high priority

    Erythropoietin Protects Against Cognitive Impairment and Hippocampal Neurodegeneration in Diabetic Mice

    Administration of erythropoietin (EPO) is neuroprotective against a variety of experimentally-induced neurological disorders. The aim was to determine if EPO protects against hippocampal neurodegeneration as well as impairment of cognition and motor performance, associated with long-term diabetes. BALB/c mice were randomly allocated between control, diabetic and EPO-treated diabetic groups. EPO-treated diabetic mice were administered EPO 0.05 U/kg/day i.p. three times/week for 10 weeks. Cognition was assessed by Morris water maze. Brain samples were processed for light microscopic evaluation of hippocampus. Controls showed gradual improvement of cognitive performance in water maze when comparing latency (p < 0.01) and distance swum to reach the platform (p = 0.001). There was a similar trend for improvement in EPO-treated diabetics (p < 0.001). Latency did not improve in diabetic animals indicating lack of learning (p = 0.79). In probe trials, controls and EPO-treated diabetics spent more time in the training quadrant than expected by chance (p < 0.001). Diabetics did not show memory recall behavior; performance was significantly worse than expected by chance (p = 0.023). In diabetics, there was neurodegeneration in hippocampus and reduction in number of granule cells (p < 0.01) in the dentate gyrus. EPO treatment improved these neurodegenerative changes and preserved numbers of granule cells (p < 0.1, compared to controls).     Insights on Potential Formation Damage Mechanisms Associated with the Use of Gel Breakers in Hydraulic Fracturing

    Hydraulic fracturing using water-soluble polymers has been extensively used to enhance the productivity of oil and gas wells. However, the production enhancement can be significantly impaired due to polymer residue generated within the proppant pack in the created fractures. This work describes an approach to establish a suitable fracturing fluid cleanup process by characterizing broken polymer residues generated from the use of different gel breaker types. Commonly used gel breakers such as inorganic oxidizers (bromate and persulfate salts), specific enzymes, and acids were evaluated in this work. The influence of each gel breaker was examined using High-Pressure/High-Temperature (HP/HT) rheometer, aging cells, zeta potential, Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), and Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope/Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (ESEM/EDS). Experiments were performed on a carboxymethylhydroxypropyl guar (CMHPG) fracturing fluid at temperatures up to 300 °F. The developed GPC methodology showed that the size of the broken polymer chains was mainly dependent on the type of gel breakers used. Moreover, laboratory tests have revealed that some gel breakers may negatively influence the performance of polymeric clay stabilizers.
