Present survey basically focused on women between 15-45 years of age resident in a town of Sistan and Baluchistan province named as Saravan city located in border of Pakistan-Iran in order to find out the seropositivity against the viruses in child bearing ages in the above stated under study community. This descriptive cross-sectional study was carried-out from 2001 up to 2002. Saravan town was divided into 4 geographical areas and each area was further sub-divided into 10 blocks and in each block 10 families were chosen randomly. In the next step by referring to each family from the chosen married women with specified age i.e., 15-45 years, 5 mL blood was collected. Serum was then separated and stored at -20°C before the assay. ELISA kit was employed to detect anti B19, anti rubella, anti measles, anti HBV and anti HCV antibody. Furthermore during samples collection a questionnaire filled for each woman under study. This study showed that 89.6% of women understudy were seropositive against measles, rubella (96.2%), B19 (59.2%), HCV (0.8%) and HBV (19.8%), respectively. According to the results of no serious problem with rubella in this area; But, about measles, the present immunity against measles in this area is insufficient. It seems that incidence of B19 infection in this region is same as other places in Iran. The rate of seropositivity against HBV and HCV indicated of these viruses circulating in the population in this area. © 2007 Academic Journals

This research evaluates the impact of automated and semi-automated devices on the process of loading, discharging, stacking and un-stacking of containers using Quayside Cranes (QSCs), Straddle Carriers (SCs), Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes (RTGs) and Rail Mounted Gantry cranes (RMGs) in container terminals. The emphasis of study is on the assessment of performance and cost effectiveness of the existing automated quayside and yard cranes. The study in this thesis examines the economic implications of reducing QSCs' cycle-times brought about by automatic features installed on the post-Panamax cranes. It demonstrates that a considerable increase in the productivity of QSCs is related directly or indirectly to an expected reduction of crane cycle-times. The concept offered by the proposed improvements distinguishes between the traditional system of loading and discharging of containers and the automated methods. It implies that automation devices installed on conventional QSCs significantly reduce the total turnaroundtime and hence the cost of containerships' waiting-times. It argues, however, that there should be a balance between the cost of containerships' waiting-times and the cost of automated berths' unproductive-times (idle-times). This study uses the elements of queuing theories and proposes a novel break-even method for calculating such a balance. The number of container Ground Slots (GSs) and the annual throughput of container terminals expressed in Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) have been used as the efficiency and performance measure for many years. The study in this thesis introduces appropriate container yard design layouts and provides a generic model for calculating the annual throughput for container terminals using semiautomated SC and RTG and automated and semi-automated RMG operating systems. The throughput model proposed in this study incorporates the dynamic nature, size, type and capacity of the automated container yard operating systems and the average dwell-times, transhipment ratio, accessibility and stacking height of the containers as the salient factors in determining a container terminal throughput. Further, this thesis analyses the concept of cost functions for container yard operating systems proposed. It develops a generic cost-based model that provides the basis for a pair-wise comparison, analysis and evaluation of the economic efficiency and effectiveness of automated and semi-automated container yard stacking cranes and helps to make rational decisions. This study proposes a Multiple Attribute Decision-Making (MADM) method for evaluating and selecting the best container yard operating system amongst alternatives by examining the most important operating criteria involved. The MADM method proposed enables a decision-maker to study complex problems and allows consideration of qualitative and qualitative attributes that are heterogeneous in nature. An Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) technique has been employed as a weighting method to solve the MADM problem. The AHP allows for the decomposition of decision problem into a hierarchical order and enables a pair-wise comparison of the attributes and alternatives. The results of the AHP analysis provide the basis for a pair-wise comparison, judgement and selection of the best automated or semi-automated container yard operating system

Background: Coronary arteriovenous fistulas (CAVFs) are direct connections from one or more coronary arteries to cardiac chambers or a large vessel. They are mostly of congenital origin. The aim of this study was to describe clinical presentation and also delineate the course and management of CAVF. Methods: Clinical data, chest x-rays, echocardiographic and angiographic evaluation of 40 patients with congenital CAVF during 1990 to 2008 were reviewed retrospectively. Results: Seventeen patients were 20 years old (42.5) were mostly asymptomatic, and twenty tree cases were older than 20 years old (57.5), mostly symptomatic (P < 0.05). Twenty one (52.5) patients had pure CAVF and nineteen (47.5) patients with associated intarcardiac congenital heart disease (15) or acquired valvular and coronary arteries diseases (32.5). CAVFs mostly originated from left anterior descending artery (LAD) (42.5) and mostly drained into the main pulmonary artery (MPA) (35 ). Twenty-four patients underwent CAVF surgical ligation. From twenty-one patients with pure CAVF, eight (38) patients were complicated by congestive heart failure and aneurism formation of fistula. Conclusion: Unlike some previous reports, in our study, the most prevalent origin site for CAVFs was the left anterior descending (LAD). Most patients with CAVFs especially those who went first diagnosed before 20 years old were asymptomatic. On the other hand, as the continuous murmur is not always detected in children or infants, consequently, cases of spontaneous closure may remain undetected. All symptomatic and asymptomatic patients with moderate to severe shunting should be operated on and minimal morbidity and good surgical results could be expected

A study on live food in Acipenser persicus rearing ponds was carried out In four rearing ponds; two in the Shahid Beheshti hatchery and two ponds in the Yousefpour hatchery. Samples were collected from three points in each pond on a weekly basis. Samples were collected using plankton nets (mesh size 50 µm), Ruthner sampler and Ekman grab. Zooplankton and benthic samples were fixed in 4 % formalin solution for later analysis. Zooplankton species identified in water samples collected at all four ponds belonged mainly to two phyla; Arthropoda and Rotifera. Total abundance of zooplankton species was estimated 87576 individuals L-1 in the Yousefpour hatchery and 136626 individuals L-1 in the Shahid Beheshti hatchery. Insect larvae, oligochaeta worms and mollusks were found in the sediment samples collected from the Yousefpour hatchery while sediment samples collected from the Shahid Beheshti hatchery contained only insect larvae and oligochaeta worms. The total abundance of benthic organisms was 0.343 g m-2 in the Yousefpour hatchery and 1.28 g m-2 in the Shahid Beheshti hatchery. Condition factor in fishes ranged from 0.29-0.54 in the Yousefpour hatchery and from 0.30-0.47 in the Shahid Beheshti hatchery

Microalgae as a source of valuable compounds such as fatty acids are isolated from the natural environments and their mass production with high nutritional value is one the necessities of many hatcheries. The present study aimed to determine the effects of enriched daphnia with microscopic algae on some growth indices and survival rate of Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus) larvae. Chlorella vulgaris and Scenedesmus dimorphus were purified and cultured. Then, Daphnia longispina was fed microalgae including Chlorella vulgaris and Scenedesmus dimorphus enriched with Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The microalgae density to enrich daphnia was estimated at 5× 107 cells mL-1. Three treatments with three replicates and a control group were considered in this study. A total of 30 Acipenser persicus larvae were allocated to each sixty liters tank. Experimental fish were fed daphnia enriched with Chlorella vulgaris (treatment 1), daphnia enriched with Scenedesmus dimorphus (treatment 2) and daphnia enriched with Chlorella vulgaris and Scenedesmus dimorphus (at the rates of 50%) (treatment 3). Persian sturgeon larvae in the control group were fed like VNIRO stage from daphnia caught in pond. Larvae were fed 30% of body weight per day for four times. During the experimental period, water temperature, dissolved oxygen concentration and pH ranged between 18-24°C, 5.8-7.2 mg l-1 and 5.6-8.2, respectively. The minimum (219 ± 98.4 mg) and maximum (315.16 ± 140.8 mg) mean (±SD) weights were observed in the control group and treatment 3, respectively. The results obtained from the body weight increase (BWI %) revealed that there were significant differences between treatment 3 and other treatments. Highest (4.6±1.13% day-1) and lowest (5.5±1.24% day-1) mean (±SD) specific growth rates (SGR) were recorded in fish fed the control group and treatment 3, respectively. Lowest (68%) and highest (85%) survival rates were recorded in the control group and treatment 3, respectively
