Employee Health Insurance Decisions In a Flexible Benefits Environment

    Get PDF
Empirical investigations of flexible benefits plans, an increasingly popular type of plan that allows employees to choose among multiple benefits options, have been limited. This study investigates hypotheses relating to the determinants of employees\u27 choices among six different health insurance options under a flexible benefits plan. Using employee-specific selection and demographic data provided by a large firm, we estimate a logistic regression model to analyze the effects of employee and plan characteristics on choice of health care plan. Results suggest that health plan decisions are significantly influenced by option premium, deductible and coinsurance amounts, and by employees\u27 age, gender, salary, and marital status. The results are considered within an expected utility maximization model

    Invariant Manifolds and Collective Coordinates

    Get PDF
We introduce suitable coordinate systems for interacting many-body systems with invariant manifolds. These are Cartesian in coordinate and momentum space and chosen such that several components are identically zero for motion on the invariant manifold. In this sense these coordinates are collective. We make a connection to Zickendraht's collective coordinates and present certain configurations of few-body systems where rotations and vibrations decouple from single-particle motion. These configurations do not depend on details of the interaction.Comment: 15 pages, 2 EPS-figures, uses psfig.st

A study of possible sea state information in the sample and hold gate statistics for the GEOS-3 satellite altimeter

The statistical variations in the sample gate outputs of the GEOS-3 satellite altimeter were studied for possible sea state information. After examination of a large number of statistical characteristics of the altimeter waveforms, it was found that the best sea predictor for H-1/3 in the range of 0 to 3 meters was the 75th percentile of sample and hold gate number 11

Kinematic Orbits and the Structure of the Internal Space for Systems of Five or More Bodies

    Get PDF
The internal space for a molecule, atom, or other n-body system can be conveniently parameterised by 3n-9 kinematic angles and three kinematic invariants. For a fixed set of kinematic invariants, the kinematic angles parameterise a subspace, called a kinematic orbit, of the n-body internal space. Building on an earlier analysis of the three- and four-body problems, we derive the form of these kinematic orbits (that is, their topology) for the general n-body problem. The case n=5 is studied in detail, along with the previously studied cases n=3,4.Comment: 38 pages, submitted to J. Phys.
