    Genetic analysis of east and west coast populations of Penaeus monodon from India based on random amplified polymorphic DNA

    The east and west coast populations of wild Penaeus monodon in India were genetically characterized by RAPD analysis using six highly polymorphic primers reported earlier. The average genetic similarities within populations, based on profiles generated by all the six primers, were 0.828 and 0.851 for the east and west coast populations, respectively, values with individual primers ranging from 0.744 to 0.889. The average genetic similarity between populations across all the primers was 0.774. The number of bands found to be polymorphic were 38 (51.35%) and 37 (50.68%) in the east and west coast populations, respectively. Primer 5 yielded the highest level of polymorphism (63.63%) in the east coast population whereas primer 3 yielded the lowest level of polymorphism (36.36%) in the west coast population. The study reveals the existence of genetic variation in P. monodon stocks providing scope for genetic improvement through selective breeding. It also provides baseline data for future work on population structure analysis of P. monodon

These include procedures like Pandukarma (hypopigmentation), Krishnakarma (hyperpigmentation), Romasanjanana (repilation), Lomapaharana (depilation), Pratisarana (rubbing), Utsadana (stimulating granulation) and Avasadana (depressing granulation). Inclusion of such procedures light up the fact that cosmetology was given utmost importance even in the Vedic period.  In modern day practice of Ayurveda, Vaikrutapaha chikitsa remains unnoticed in the shadow of surgical measures. These days people need faster results. So they usually opt for procedures that can result in faster relief like facial surgery, laser hair removal, hair transplants, chemical skin peels etc. These are usually costly and may be out of reach of common man. So there arises a need for a result oriented procedure which is natural, cost effective and devoid of side effects. Having said that Vaikrutapaha chikitsa comes into picture in this aspect. There is no doubt that if these procedures are properly adopted in practice, it could bring lot of positive approach among the needy. Every human desires to look beautiful. With the advancement in various ultratechnology, maintenance of beauty has been made easy.     A Precise Measurement of the Weak Mixing Angle in Neutrino-Nucleon Scattering

    We report a precise measurement of the weak mixing angle from the ratio of neutral current to charged current inclusive cross-sections in deep-inelastic neutrino-nucleon scattering. The data were gathered at the CCFR neutrino detector in the Fermilab quadrupole-triplet neutrino beam, with neutrino energies up to 600 GeV. Using the on-shell definition, sin2θW1MW2MZ2{\rm sin ^2\theta_W} \equiv 1 - \frac{{\rm M_W} ^2}{{\rm M_Z} ^2}, we obtain sin2θW=0.2218±0.0025(stat.)±0.0036(exp.syst.)±0.0040(model){\rm sin ^2\theta_W} = 0.2218 \pm 0.0025 ({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.0036 ({\rm exp.\: syst.}) \pm 0.0040 ({\rm model}).Comment: 10 pages, Nevis Preprint #1498 (Submitted to Phys.     Azimuthal anisotropy and correlations in p+p, d+Au and Au+Au collisions at 200 GeV

    We present the first measurement of directed flow (v1v_1) at RHIC. v1v_1 is found to be consistent with zero at pseudorapidities η\eta from -1.2 to 1.2, then rises to the level of a couple of percent over the range 2.4<η<42.4 < |\eta| < 4. The latter observation is similar to data from NA49 if the SPS rapidities are shifted by the difference in beam rapidity between RHIC and SPS. Back-to-back jets emitted out-of-plane are found to be suppressed more if compared to those emitted in-plane, which is consistent with {\it jet quenching}. Using the scalar product method, we systematically compared azimuthal correlations from p+p, d+Au and Au+Au collisions.     We report the first observations of the fourth harmonic (v_4) in the azimuthal distribution of particles at RHIC. The measurement was done taking advantage of the large elliptic flow generated at RHIC. The integrated v_4 is about a factor of 10 smaller than v_2.     Plasma Wakefield Acceleration with a Modulated Proton Bunch

    The plasma wakefield amplitudes which could be achieved via the modulation of a long proton bunch are investigated. We find that in the limit of long bunches compared to the plasma wavelength, the strength of the accelerating fields is directly proportional to the number of particles in the drive bunch and inversely proportional to the square of the transverse bunch size. The scaling laws were tested and verified in detailed simulations using parameters of existing proton accelerators, and large electric fields were achieved, reaching 1 GV/m for LHC bunches. Energy gains for test electrons beyond 6 TeV were found in this case.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figure
