    A Probability Model for Analysis of Attacks on Blockchain

    In a blockchain, the longest chain, which has the greatest proof-of-work effort spent in it, represents the majority decision. To change the transaction data of a block, an attacker has to control more computing power than other honest nodes. This situation can happen if the attacker can hack into the systems of honest nodes. To analyze the probability of such event, we propose a probability model for analysis of attacks on blockchain. The model is based on the structure of a peer-to-peer network. We assume the state of each honest node follows a two-state (hacked or normal) Markov chains. A hacked node is assumed to be controlled by the attacker and its computing power belongs to the attacker. On the other hand, the computing power of a normal node belongs to the honest longest chain. We apply the model to study the probability of the majority decision is controlled by the attacker and the duration of such event. In addition, we analyze the magnitude of the loss for such event

    Probabilistic Graphical Modeling on Big Data

    The rise of Big Data in recent years brings many challenges to modern statistical analysis and modeling. In toxicogenomics, the advancement of high-throughput screening technologies facilitates the generation of massive amount of biological data, a big data phenomena in biomedical science. Yet, researchers still heavily rely on key word search and/or literature review to navigate the databases and analyses are often done in rather small-scale. As a result, the rich information of a database has not been fully utilized, particularly for the information embedded in the interactive nature between data points that are largely ignored and buried. For the past 10 years, probabilistic topic modeling has been recognized as an effective machine learning algorithm to annotate the hidden thematic structure of massive collection of documents. The analogy between text corpus and large-scale genomic data enables the application of text mining tools, like probabilistic topic models, to explore hidden patterns of genomic data and to the extension of altered biological functions. In this study, we developed a generalized probabilistic topic model to analyze a toxicogenomics data set that consists of a large number of gene expression data from the rat livers treated with drugs in multiple dose and time-points. We discovered the hidden patterns in gene expression associated with the effect of doses and time-points of treatment. Finally, we illustrated the ability of our model to identify the evidence of potential reduction of animal use. We use cosine similarity to measure the strength of the Social ties and apply incremental Dirichlet process Gaussian mixture model to group tie into different clusters of ties. Comparing to other methods, our approach generates superior accuracy in classification on data with ground truth. The incremental algorithm also allow data to be added or deleted in a dynamic Social network with minimal computer cost. In addition, it has been shown that the network constraints of individuals can be used to predict ones\u27 career successes. Under our multiple type of ties assumption, individuals are profiled based on their surrounding relationships. We demonstrate that network profile of a individual is directly linked to Social significance in real world

    Design And Fabrication of Condenser Microphone Using Wafer Transfer And Micro-electroplating Technique

    A novel fabrication process, which uses wafer transfer and micro-electroplating technique, has been proposed and tested. In this paper, the effects of the diaphragm thickness and stress, the air-gap thickness, and the area ratio of acoustic holes to backplate on the sensitivity of the condenser microphone have been demonstrated since the performance of the microphone depends on these parameters. The microphone diaphragm has been designed with a diameter and thickness of 1.9 mm and 0.6 μ\mum, respectively, an air-gap thickness of 10 μ\mum, and a 24% area ratio of acoustic holes to backplate. To obtain a lower initial stress, the material used for the diaphragm is polyimide. The measured sensitivities of the microphone at the bias voltages of 24 V and 12 V are -45.3 and -50.2 dB/Pa (at 1 kHz), respectively.     To Enhance the Fire Resistance Performance of High-Speed Steel Roller Door with Water Film System

    The structure of high-speed roller door with water film has improved in this study. The flameproof water film system is equipped with a water circulating device to reduce the water consumption of water film system. The water film is generated at the roller box of the high-speed roller door in this study. The heating test is done with the full-scale heating furnace. Both cases of the water film on unexposed surface and water film on exposed surface passed the fire resistance test based on ISO 834, proving that the high-speed roller door with water film system has 120A fire resistance period. The main findings indicate that the water film on exposed surface shows that as the amount of water film evaporated by high temperature inside the furnace must be greater than the evaporation capacity of water film on unexposed surface, the required water supply is 660 L more than the water film on unexposed surface

    Using DMA to Simultaneously Acquire Young's Relaxation Modulus and Time-dependent Poisson's Ratio of a Viscoelastic Material

    AbstractA method to obtain the Young's relaxation modulus and time-dependent Poisson's ratio simultaneously by using DMA is developed with the assumption of constant bulk modulus instead of constant Poisson's ratio. The constant bulk modulus is then calculated by either instantaneous response or the equilibrium response of the time-dependent Poisson's ratio. The modulating Young's moduli and characteristic times that measured by DMA are corrected analytically by using the developed formulas. The time-dependent Poisson's ratio is then obtained from the corrected modulating Young's moduli and the constant bulk modulus. As an application example, the method is applied to the DMA measurement of an epoxy molding compound (EMC). Although the correction to Young's relaxation modulus is very small, the viscoelastic Poisson's ratio varies significantly over time from 0.4 to 0.496, and can’t be assumed as a constant

    Magnetically Directed Targeting Aggregation of Radiolabelled Ferrite Nanoparticles

    Ferrite magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4 or iron (II,III) oxide; 15–25 nm of diameter) were developed. These magnetic nanoparticles are a potential vehicle for magnetically induced target aggregation in living animals. In this preliminary study, the radiochemical purity for the radiolabeled magnetic nanoparticles was examined, and the possibility of the magnetically induced targeting of the radio-nanoparticles was evaluated. Our results showed that radiolabeled ferrite nanoparticles can be used as magnetic targeting agents with high labeling efficiency and stability. These particles can be distributed within living animals via intravenous injection, and the biodistribution of the particles can be potentially controlled by external magnetism. These evaluations will be the groundwork for the future development of delivery techniques for radiopharmaceuticals through external magnetic control

    Oral Rg1 supplementation strengthens antioxidant defense system against exercise-induced oxidative stress in rat skeletal muscles

    BACKGROUND: Previous studies reported divergent results on nutraceutical actions and free radical scavenging capability of ginseng extracts. Variations in ginsenoside profile of ginseng due to different soil and cultivating season may contribute to the inconsistency. To circumvent this drawback, we assessed the effect of major ginsenoside-Rg1 (Rg1) on skeletal muscle antioxidant defense system against exhaustive exercise-induced oxidative stress. METHODS: Forty weight-matched rats were evenly divided into control (N = 20) and Rg1 (N = 20) groups. Rg1 was orally administered at the dose of 0.1 mg/kg bodyweight per day for 10-week. After this long-term Rg1 administration, ten rats from each group performed an exhaustive swimming, and remaining rats considered as non-exercise control. Tibialis anterior (TA) muscles were surgically collected immediately after exercise along with non-exercise rats. RESULTS: Exhaustive exercise significantly (p<0.05) increased the lipid peroxidation of control group, as evidenced by elevated malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. The increased oxidative stress after exercise was also confirmed by decreased reduced glutathione to oxidized glutathione ratio (GSH/GSSG ratio) in control rats. However, these changes were completely eliminated in Rg1 group. Catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities were significantly (p<0.05) increased by Rg1 in non-exercise rats, while no significant change after exercise. Nevertheless, glutathione reductase (GR) and glutathione S-transferase (GST) activities were significantly increased after exercise in Rg1 group. CONCLUSIONS: This study provide compelling evidences that Rg1 supplementation can strengthen antioxidant defense system in skeletal muscle and completely attenuate the membrane lipid peroxidation induced by exhaustive exercise. Our findings suggest that Rg1 can use as a nutraceutical supplement to buffer the exhaustive exercise-induced oxidative stress
