Small Private Woodlands; The Hope of the Future
Along with a better understanding and regard for environmental forestry, woodland owners may need government assistance such as tax incentives, management plans, marketing information, cost-sharing programs and long term loans. In the long run the vast areas of privately owned forests will be managed for the benefit of the owners and the people. The small private woodlands are indeed the hope of the future. They should be the top priority for the forestry profession
Exploring School Community During the COVID-19 Emergency School Closure: A Case Study of a Los Angeles County Middle School
In the spring of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic mandated closures of thousands of schools across the United States. Students dependent upon the support, guidance, and community of their schools became disconnected from these resources while encountering the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic. This case study represents a time capsule of the school community of one Los Angeles County public middle school from March 16 to May 28, 2020. Semi-structured interviews of school staff and parents grounded the study’s analysis. Public documents and participant researcher protocol responses collaborated the participants’ narratives. Results provide a snapshot of the school community before emergency mandated COVID-19 closure, participants’ recollections of the school community during the closure, and their reflections and reactions to the closures. Data analysis utilized a conceptual framework developed to capture e-school community access and engagement. Outcomes from this study illustrate the need for additional supports for student mental health, investment in universal access to reliable internet service, and the importance of physical school outreach during times of crisis

A Case of an Acutely Ill Adult Athlete with Previously Undiagnosed Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy.
Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) is a genetic condition most commonly characterized by hypertrophy of the ventricular septum, which leads to left ventricle outflow obstruction. Due to the severity of the condition, it is often diagnosed in adolescents, especially in those who exercise. We describe the case of a 53-year-old male, previously undiagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), who became dyspneic during a bike race. He was found to have elevated troponin, pulmonary edema, and was diagnosed with HOCM. The late presentation of the case, in an active individual, makes the situation unique

Evaluating the Relationship Between Mental Health and Outdoor Exposure During the COVID-19 Pandemic Lockdowns Across Urban and Rural Communities
The Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdowns began in March 2020 and brought on a slew of physical and mental health issues. Before the pandemic began, studies were associating outdoor/natural exposure with an improvement in mental health. A survey was deployed that asked participants how their mental health, coping mechanisms, and outdoor exposure habits changed once the pandemic began, with a focus on if nature’s presumed beneficial influence was different between urban and rural communities. The findings show that depression and anxiety, as well as the emotions associated with those psychosocial disorders, did worsen once the lockdowns began with higher averages coming from participants in urban areas. It is also concluded that urban residents reported their outdoor exposure was more beneficial to their mental health than rural residents. Ultimately, this research could be used as a guideline for government officials, therapists, architects, and many more, to think about when planning ways to improve mental health.</p
