Exact Numerical Solution of the BCS Pairing Problem
We propose a new simulation computational method to solve the reduced BCS
Hamiltonian based on spin analogy and submatrix diagonalization. Then we
further apply this method to solve superconducting energy gap and the results
are well consistent with those obtained by Bogoliubov transformation method.
The exponential problem of 2^{N}-dimension matrix is reduced to the polynomial
problem of N-dimension matrix. It is essential to validate this method on a

'Heaven starts at your parents' feet' : adolescent bowing to parents and associated spiritual attitudes
In a quantitative survey of religious attitudes and practices in a multi-religious sample of
369 school pupils aged between 13 and 15 in London, the practice of bowing to parents was
found widespread in 22% of adolescents spanning several religious affiliations and
ethnicities – especially Buddhists, Hindus and those of Indian, African and ‘Other Asian’
ethnicity. Whether an adolescent bowed correlated significantly with spiritual attitudes such
as wanting to abstain from alcohol, hearing religious stories, being inspired by religious
festivals and liking the idea of seeing God in everything. Findings suggest bowing to
parents can have religious significance on all three levels of Jackson’s Interpretive
Approach and therefore cannot be regarded as a ‘cultural accretion’ of religion. Study of
bowing to parents could form a unifying exercise in shared values for study of religion in
the plural classroom and facilitate community cohesion in certain religious membership
groups
Anthropometric status of a basketball player: early selection
The article presents data on the influence of hereditary factors on the prediction of longitudinal body size in playing sports. Based on the hypothesis that local conditions can significantly influence the patterns of phenotypic traits formation we have analyzed, the most effective formulas for Belarusian athletes, in relation to their effectiveness for Chinese athletes. Thus, based on the data presented, we can state that the successful prediction of beginning athletes' growth should be carried out taking into account local features. For predicting the longitudinal body size for young men in the Belarusian population, the most effective models were 1 and 3, and for young men in the Chinese population, the most reliable formula 4 is considered to be. For girls, the 5th model of growth prediction was found to be the most informative.
Physical model for the gating mechanism of ionic channels
We propose a physical model for the gating mechanism of ionic channels. First, we investigate the fluctuation-mediated interactions between two proteins imbedded in a cellular membrane and find that the interaction depends on their orientational configuration as well as the distance between them. The orientational dependence of interactions arises from the fact that the noncircular cross-sectional shapes of individual proteins constrain fluctuations of the membrane differently according to their orientational configuration. Then, we apply these interactions to ionic channels composed of four, five, and six proteins. As the gating stimulus creates the changes in the structural shape of proteins composing ionic channels, the orientational configuration of the ionic channels changes due to the free energy minimization, and ionic channels are open or closed according to the conformation thereof.open3
Isotope effects and the charge gap formation in the charge ordered phase of colossal magnetoresistance manganites
Giant oxygen isotope effects observed in colossal magnetoresistance
manganites are investigated by employing the combined model of the double
exchange and interacting lattice polaron mechanism. We have shown that the
isotope effects on in the metallic phase and in the charge
ordered phase of manganites can be explained well in terms of the double
exchange and polaron narrowing factors with reasonable physical parameters.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
Data on the impact of scan quality on the diagnostic performance of CCTA, SPECT, and PET for diagnosing myocardial ischemia defined by fractional flow reserve on a per vessel level
Scan quality directly impacts the diagnostic performance of non-invasive imaging modalities as reported in a substudy of the PACIFC-trial: "Impact of Scan Quality on the Diagnostic Performance of CCTA, SPECT, and PET for Diagnosing Myocardial Ischemia Defined by Fractional Flow Reserve" [1]. This Data-in-Brief paper supplements the hereinabove mentioned article by presenting the diagnostic performance of CCTA, SPECT, and PET on a per vessel level for the detection of hemodynamic significant coronary artery disease (CAD) when stratified according to scan quality and vascular territory
Comparison between the performance of quantitative flow ratio and perfusion imaging for diagnosing myocardial ischemia
OBJECTIVES This study compared the performance of the quantitative flow ratio (QFR) with single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET) myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) for the diagnosis of fractional flow reserve (FFR)-defined coronary artery disease (CAD).BACKGROUND QFR estimates FFR solely based on cine contrast images acquired during invasive coronary angiography (ICA). Head-to-head studies comparing QFR with noninvasive MPI are lacking.METHODS A total of 208 (624 vessels) patients underwent technetium -99m tetrofosmin SPECT and [15O]H2O PET imaging before ICA in conjunction with FFR measurements. ICA was obtained without using a dedicated QFR acquisition protocol, and QFR computation was attempted in all vessels interrogated by FFR (552 vessels).RESULTS QFR computation succeeded in 286 (52%) vessels. QFR correlated well with invasive FFR overall (R = 0.79; p < 0.001) and in the subset of vessels with an intermediate (30% to 90%) diameter stenosis (R = 0.76; p < 0.001). Overall, per-vessel analysis demonstrated QFR to exhibit a superior sensitivity (70%) in comparison with SPECT (29%; p < 0.001), whereas it was similar to PET (75%; p = 1.000). Specificity of QFR (93%) was higher than PET (79%; p < 0.001) and not different from SPECT (96%; p = 1.000). As such, the accuracy of QFR (88%) was superior to both SPECT (82%; p = 0.010) and PET (78%; p = 0.004). Lastly, the area under the receiver operating characteristics curve of QFR, in the overall sample (0.94) and among vessels with an intermediate lesion (0.90) was higher than SPECT (0.63 and 0.61; p < 0.001 for both) and PET (0.82; p < 0.001 and 0.77; p = 0.002), respectively.CONCLUSIONS In this head-to-head comparative study, QFR exhibited a higher diagnostic value for detecting FFRdefined significant CAD compared with perfusion imaging by SPECT or PET. Velocity-space sensitivity of the time-of-flight neutron spectrometer at JET
The velocity-space sensitivities of fast-ion diagnostics are often described by so-called weight functions. Recently, we formulated weight functions showing the velocity-space sensitivity of the often dominant beam-target part of neutron energy spectra. These weight functions for neutron emission spectrometry (NES) are independent of the particular NES diagnostic. Here we apply these NES weight functions to the time-of-flight spectrometer TOFOR at JET. By taking the instrumental response function of TOFOR into account, we calculate time-of-flight NES weight functions that enable us to directly determine the velocity-space sensitivity of a given part of a measured time-of-flight spectrum from TOFOR
