Reliable Multicast Transport for Heterogeneous Mobile IP environment using Cross-Layer Information

    Get PDF
Reliable multicast transport architecture designed for heterogeneous mobile IP environment using cross-layer information for enhanced Quality of Service (QoS) and seamless handover is discussed. In particular, application-specific reliable multicast retransmission schemes are proposed, which are aimed to minimize the protocol overhead taking into account behaviour of mobile receivers (loss of connectivity and handover) and the specific application requirements for reliable delivery (such as carousel, one-to-many download and streaming delivery combined with recording). The proposed localized retransmission strategies are flexible configured for tree-based multicast transport. Cross layer interactions in order to enhance reliable transport and support seamless handover is discussed considering IEEE 802.21 media independent handover mechanisms. The implementation is based on Linux IPv6 environment. Simulations in ns2 focusing on the benefits of the proposed multicast retransmission schemes for particular application scenarios are presented

Prototype performance evaluation of multimedia service components

This paper deals with a formal approach for decomposition and description of multimedia service components and their performance analysis. Our approach is based on the Temporal Logic of Actions (TLA) specifications. A TLA based specification of multimedia components is transformed into process prototypes described with the SPIMS (SICS Protocol Implementation Measurement System) application language. The multimedia component prototype derived in this way is then evaluated with the SPIMS tool for different QoS parameters. The proposed approach using TLA based specifications, transformations in SPIMS application prototypes, and performance analysis provides the background for an computer based system for test specification and performance analysis which is currently under development. We present and discuss practical test scenarios derived from the proposed method for performance analysis of the Audio-Visual Communication (AVC)component of the Joint-Viewing and Tele-Operation Service (JVTOS). The multimedia test scenarios shown use the TCP/IP and XTP protocols on top of FORE ATM networks

QoS Management within High Speed Transport System

    No full text
A high speed transport system must be able to manage the Quality of Service (QoS) requirements of multimedia applications. QoS management functions in this paper are related to OSI management functional areas and RACE telecommunications management requirements. We discuss especially management functions for QoS translation, admission control and resource management, monitoring and accounting using a common QoS oriented management information base (MIB). We focus on design and implementation aspects of QoS oriented MIB used by the management functions. A practical implementation of QoS management is based on eXpress Transfer Protocol eXtended (XTPX) in an internetwork environment including ATM. We investigate translations of transport user QoS interfaces to ATM networks and discuss admission functions in respect to different QoS interfaces. This paper addresses a practical approach for provision of management services on demand based on SPECTRUM network management tool. We discuss the ..

Resource Reservation in Advance for Content On-demand Services

    No full text
Typical for the content on-demand applications, such as Video-on-Demand, IPTV, on-demand advertising, music on-demand, on-line gaming, is the requirement for large bandwidth and QoS guarantees. In order to provide efficiently content delivery on-demand within fixed/mobile broadband infrastructures, QoS management interfaces and tools are proposed, which are aimed at bandwidth planning and resource reservation in advance considering dynamic QoS/SLA agreements. This paper discusses strategies and tools for automated bandwidth planning of on-demand content delivery. Based on policies for handling of on-demand services with advance reservation, the Telecom providers can improve the usage of Internet resources and enhance the QoS provision
