In this paper, the methodology of seaworthiness and stability analysis of a pontoon for holiday house has described. A 3D model of the pontoon was modelled in the NAPA software to perform hydrostatic analysis. It is necessary to emphasize the fact that hydrostatic analysis has been made for several drafts and trims of pontoons. The hydrostatic analysis yielded data such as displacement, moulded volume, longitudinal centre of buoyancy, the transverse metacentric height, change of displacement, moment to change trim, and more. This part of the analysis also includes the loading scale from which we can see the deadweight at a given draft. Further, it is necessary to make weight study to get moulded displacement for pontoon for a holiday house. The pontoon also includes capacity tanks, so it is necessary to know the accurate dimensions of the tanks and their position for further analysis. It is necessary to know the exact geometry of the tanks because of the free surface effect. When calculating the stability of the pontoon, it is necessary to determine the minimum metacentric height and the maximum distance from the keel to the centre of gravity. Intact stability conditions must be met for GM limit curves and also for KG curves. Intact stability criteria of the pontoon were tested for four loading conditions: lightship, pontoon with 10% consumables without passengers, pontoon with 100% consumables with passengers, pontoon with 50% consumables with passengers. It is important to emphasize that all tasks meet the stability criteria

Aim: The aim of this paper is to present a very rare case of sigmoid diverticulitis perforation with pain in the lower left abdomen, subfebrility and subcutaneous emphysema of the neck at presentation. Case report: Thirty six year old patient was admitted to the Department of neurosurgery for an elective operative procedure because of a longstanding left-sided lower back pain. Early postoperative course was complicated with gradually increasing pain in her lower left abdomen, subfebrility, increase in inflammatory markers and subcutaneous emphysema of the neck. Extensive imaging workup was performed (plain radiographs of the neck, thorax and abdomen, CT of the neck, thorax, abdomen and pelvis, MRI of the abdomen and pelvis) and large amount of free air in the soft tissues of the neck, in the mediastinum, pleural space, retroperitoneum and peritoneum was demonstrated. Diverticulosis of the sigmoid colon with stranding of the adjacent fat was also noted. These findings were suggestive of a perforated sigmoid diverticulitis which was confirmed by operative procedure and pathohistological report. Her postoperative course after laparotomy was unremarkable. Conclusion: Sigmoid diverticulitis perforation is a very unusal cause of subcutaneous emphysema of the neck, pneumomediastinum, pneumothorax, pneumoretroperitoneum and pneumoperitoneum that should be considered because many complications, including death, may occure if accurate diagnosis and laparotomy are delayed

Background. Von Wilebrand disease (vWD) is the most common inherited disorder of hemostasis. Bleeding in patients with von Wilebrand disease is a frequently reported complaint. Patients with inherited bleeding disorders are also in a large number of cases infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV). Studies showed an increased risk factor for intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in patients infected with HCV receiving the combination treatment. Case report. A 44-year old man reported to our Emergency Department with low back pain, headaches, neck pain, leg weakness and urinary retention. The neurological examination showed nuchal rigidity and spastic paraparesis. Thoracic spine MRI revealed a subacute subdural haematoma at T8-T11 level. Conclusions. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a subdural haematoma of the thoracic spine in a patient with vWD and chronic HCV infection. The presented patient was receiving a combination treatment, a fact that has also to be taken in consideration as a possible risk factor for a bleeding episode

The "Never Forget" project of the Jewish Municipality of Čakovec is important because it represents a valuable initiative of the local community to point out the importance of remembering and educating about the Holocaust "from below." This collection, as part of the project, represents an attempt to revitalize research and debates about the Holocaust in Croatia. The collection presents the works of authors who come from very different fields, institutions and levels of education and nurture different approaches and methods. Some of the papers focus on local history research through a focus on empirical research, while others emphasize an interdisciplinary approach and theories on the problems of representation and knowledge about the Holocaust. Some of the authors in the magazine announce new publications, projects and research that have the potential to significantly enrich the field of Holocaust studies in Croatia. This booklet, as well as the "Never Forget" project, is a valuable initiative that aims to connect authors and educators and further strengthen research and education about the Holocaust as well as the memory of the Jewish community in Croatia.Sadržaj: Loranda Miletić ā€œPoučavanje i učenje o Holokaustu u Republici Hrvatskoj na primjeru Jadranskog dijalogaā€, SiniÅ”a Bjedov ā€œKnjiževnost i povijesti u zastupanju stvarnostiā€, Goran Hutinec ā€œDeportacije iz NDH i hrvatskih zemalja u Auschwitzā€, Vladimir Huzjan ā€œÅ to varaždinski srednjoÅ”kolci znaju i misle o faÅ”izmu i antifaÅ”izmu? The careful monitoring of patients with mild/moderate COVID-19 is of particular importance because of the rapid progression of complications associated with COVID-19. For prognostic reasons and for the economic management of health care resources, additional biomarkers need to be identified, and their monitoring can conceivably be performed in the early stages of the disease. In this retrospective cross-sectional study, we found that serum concentrations of high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), at the time of hospital admission, could be useful biomarkers for COVID-19 management. The study included 160 randomly selected recovered patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 on admission. Compared with healthy controls, serum HMGB1 and HO-1 levels increased by 487.6 pg/mL versus 43.1 pg/mL and 1497.7 pg/mL versus 756.1 pg/mL, respectively. Serum HO-1 correlated significantly with serum HMGB1, oxidative stress parameters (malondialdehyde (MDA), the phosphatidylcholine/lysophosphatidylcholine ratio (PC/LPC), the ratio of reduced and oxidative glutathione (GSH/GSSG)), and anti-inflammatory acute phase proteins (ferritin, haptoglobin). Increased heme catabolism/hemolysis were not detected. We hypothesize that the increase in HO-1 in the early phase of COVID-19 disease is likely to have a survival benefit by providing protection against oxidative stress and inflammation, whereas the level of HMGB1 increase reflects the activity of the innate immune system and represents levels within which the disease can be kept under control

Cilj: Prikaz timskog pristupa u liječenju pacijenata s malfunkcijom arteriovenske (AV) fistule za hemodijalizu i rezultata kliničkog praćenja u prvih Å”est mjeseci. Aim: To present team approach in resolving arteriovenous (AV) fistula malfunction in patients on chronic hemodialysis and our results during the six months follow-up. Patients and methods: Ten patients with AV fistula malfunction were presented to our multidisciplinary team, that includes a nephrologist, radiolgist and urologist. Clinical manifestations were inadequate blood flow rate and / or high venous pressure during dialysis, blood clotting in the extracorporal circuit, longer bleeding after puncture, pain in the arm, arm sweeling or non-maturation of AV fistula. In all patients fistulography was performed with immediate endovascular therapy and dialysis, if applicable. Results: Fistulography showed a variety of pathological findings in arterial and venous segments. In the majority of patients the clinical outcome was successful, allowing a much higher blood flow rate and successful dialytic treatment. Conclusions: Although the patient group was small, we observed significant clinical benefits as a result of close team-work between different specialities

Water soluble biomolecules from Nepeta nuda regulate microbial growth: A case study of apple juice preservation

The following study was designed to explore antimicrobial properties of the by-product obtained in a hydro-distillation process of essential oil from Nepeta nuda L. Based on the obtained decoction of N. nuda and apple juice, we strived to develop a novel drink that would have antimicrobial self-preserving properties. By using 96-well plate microdilution assay it was shown that the N. nuda decoction has antimicrobial potential towards 8 bacterial and 6 fungal species, with the range of minimal inhibitory concentrations 10 mg/mL - 300 mg/mL. By using actual food system, such as apple juice, in combination with and without short thermal treatment, we have shown that the decoction of N. nuda can inhibit the growth of food contaminant fungus Penicillium aurantiogriseum. It was determined that 3 volumes of decoction (500 mg/mL) and 22 volumes of apple juice should be mixed in order to obtain self-preserving drink resistant to P. aurantiogriseum contamination. Likewise, when thermal treatment (80 Ā°C for 10s) is included, self-preserving mixture of decoction and apple juice should be made in volume ratios 3:47, respectively. The designed product maintained the pleasant taste as determined by panelists during the sensorial evaluation. Chemical investigations (UHPLCā€“Orbitrap MS analysis) of N. nuda decoction showed that the most abundant compound was 1,5,9-epideoxyloganic acid (0.410 mg/g of dried decoction). Since N. nuda is traditionally used as a tea, we presented the novel formulation of the antimicrobial self-preserving drink based on the N. nuda decoction and apple juice

Modeling exchange rate volatility in CEEC countries: Impact of global financial and European sovereign debt crisis

    No full text
The aim of this study is to envisage the impact of global financial (GFC) and European sovereign debt crisis (ESDC) on foreign exchange markets of emerg- ing countries in Central and Eastern Europe CEEC countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, poland and Serbia). The daily returns of exchange rates on Czech Republic koruna (CZK), Hungarian forint (HuF), Romanian lea (RoL), polish zloty (pLZ) and Serbian dinar (RSD), all against the Euro are analyzed during the period from 3rd January 2000 to15th April 2013, in respect. To examine the impact of global financial crisis and European sovereign debt crisis, dummy variables were adopted. overall results imply that global financial crisis has no impact on exchange rate returns in selected CEEC countries, while European sovereign debt crisis inf luencing in depreciation of polish zloty by 8% and Roma- nian lea by 6%. obtained results by our calculation, imply that global financial crisis increased enhanced volatility on exchange rate returns of Czech koruna, Romanian lea and polish zloty. Moreover, results of empirical analysis imply that this impact has the strongest inf luence in volatility on exchange rate returns of polish zloty

Modeling and forecasting exchange rate volatility: Comparison between EEC and developed countries

    No full text
The main objective of this study is to test the hypothesis that exchange rates in emerging countries are more sensitive to negative shocks than positive ones, and that developed ones do not exhibit this same pattern, at least not with the same intensity. In order to measure the involved risk, symmetric and asymmetric GARCH models are applied. The accuracy of exchange rate volatility forecast is evaluated using the Mincer-Zarnowitz regression based test and Diebold and Mariano test (DM test). The daily exchange rate returns of HUF/USD, RON/USD and RSD/USD for EEC countries and, the EUR/USD, GBP/USF and JPY/USD for developed countries are analysed for the period January 3, 2000 to April 15, 2013, in respect. Estimation results confirmed superiority of GARCH model in comparison to asymmetric GARCH models. Results of predictability of conditional variance indicate that GARCH model offers superior performance of forecasting in both of EEC and developed countries. Only in case of Romanian lei TGARCH outperformed GARCH model
